New Driveclub gameplay

I don't know much about this game, is it PS4 version of Forza 5 (1080p 60fps)? What differentiates them?

Forza Motorsport 5 = sim-based racer
Focus on convincing physics, real world racing circuits, 16 car fields 1080p60

Driveclub = arcade racer
Forgiving handling, road courses based (but not recreations of) real world locations, 1080p30

Very different games. Focus of each is rather different leading to different aims for the graphics, handling models etc.

FM5 is excellent, but unforgiving and aimed at folks who want that real depth in the handling partly thanks to 60fps and less bothered about flashy effects. Driveclub hopefully will be great fun too - fingers crossed for the release.

This...this is just unreal. I barely have the words to describe how incredible this looks. Thank you for this gif.

Going by the size of the tracks and the surrounding scenery in DC, the game could easily be an open world game.

Back to topic.

*moping up saliva.

But any time you go off course you get a warning message to go back right? Every course is designated, the tracks are huge, but you can't really go off course.

Holy shit at dem graphics!

Wow, it feels like you are playing the initial target render.

I hope they allow the us to play without the HUD because, damn, that is beautiful.

I wouldn't be surprised to see something like a Motorstorm Horizon using this engine, a free roam type racer using more off road stuff than standard cars.

No, no I didn't mean that. It's a closed course racer and it is good that way. My point was that I don't think a visual downgrade would be neccessary to make it an open world racer.

But I think it'll damn good this way.

Omfg. This is the best looking racer I've ever seen...and I tempted to say best looking game I've ever seen. Just incredible.

Yep this has gone pass just best looking racing game to one best looking games i have seen.
I also have to say it has best sense of speed i have seen from a racing game.

Very helpful thanks! It looks very good!

Can't wait to try this out. I'm not a huge fan of racing games but I can see me upgrading this purely to enjoy the visuals and vistas. And that Weather update next year. Jesus it looks so good already without the weather system.

I think this is the game to truly show that next gen is here.

This game looks damn near photo-realistic but one question, how does he pass that car when he's driving the exact same car since there is no tuning?

I think it's some kind of directed gameplay specifically for a trailer or something, but also can be the coming out of a longer turn...but hey I don't know what I'm talking about.

It's crazy to think that we've been making Driveclub gifs for a year.

It's changed so much that it feels like a sequel to a game that never released.

Yup there is a reset timer, but that's because they didn't want every part of the track to be closed off by a wall/tyres. So you can go off track ;)

Also, somewhere here on NeoGAF there is a guy who says that the tech isnt that different from open-world racers, so similar graphics could be possible in an open-world
(dont ask me I have no tech-knowlage)
.

REALER THAN REAL

the snowy track is beautiful

Yep! This will lead to new quests for realism though. I guarantee those huge snow drifts will react like brick walls when you drive into them. Raising visual fidelity to near photo-realism just means devs will now have to spend more time making sure everything reacts realistically. I'm glad we're getting there :)

To people complaining about graphics, you do realize that if you record all your gameplay and playback it on youtube in 2X, it's all gonna output in 60 FPS by def-

Sorry, Driveclub threads have started messing with my head. The game looks stunning. The only game I played by these folks was Motorstorm: Apocalypse and I abolutely loved the handling, and the overheating system wasn't half bad. Too bad the game did badly. I remember the comic book style cutscenes being a point of contention.
Here's to this game having great gameplay as well.

If we all had the exact same car, would all of us finish first? Also, drafting, level of aggression, AI difficulty. There could be several other factors.

I wasn`t trying to cause war. Forza Horizon 2 is IMO the best looking game on Xbox One, and it looks pretty damn good.

It looks fine but I would be surprised if it's the best looking game on Xbox One. The image quality is pretty good but it's clearly a cross gen title.

Would have to think a game like Metro looks better.

Holy crap! That does not only look incredible, it looks insanely fun as well. Might push me over to buy a ps4 now rather than when bloodborne comes out.

Holy shit, you can actually see the tire tracks on the grass. WTF
