Super Smash Bros. Direct - Oct 23(US) & Oct 24 (JP/EU)

8-player simultaneous play isn't a "good thing"?

8-player Smash sounds like a lot of fun, but it's not necessarily a "good thing" for everyone. That doesn't mean it's a "bad thing", either, but why would anyone who doesn't have a lot of "gamer friends" living next to him/her be excited about it? I guess I'd have found enough people when I was still in high school, but these days I'm lucky to get enough people for a local 4-player match together.

Looks like N64 Kongo Jungle is back

That Mario Kart 8 stage is golden. Looked crazy good in the short clip we saw. So happy for the decent-looking Donkey Kong stage, too.

And a Miiverse stage!

Ridley confirmed.

If I had been shown that image a few months ago, I would have probably BELIEVEd. Even when everyone would have been logical enough to guess that it was a boss KO.

Oh yeah, you're right. Good, that confirms what I was expecting earlier.

Imagined if this leaked before the 3ds version, lol.

Also, only another local player can join you for coop in With Anyone? Lame.

Otherwise, this Direct was amazing. Holy shit. It sucks so much that I moved about 4 hours from all my close friends this past year. We used to spend so many hours on Smash, I look forward to our get togethers in the future. No local MP game comes close imo.

Remember when if you bought Mario Kart 8, you got a game for free and then they never sold that game anywhere ever after that

I miss Pikmin 3

I hope Nintendo lets stores sell it again

Remember when they gave GBA games away for free for 3DS early adaptors.

They never sold them again on 3DS. Funny, huh?

Apple and oranges, how do they work?

If Spainkiller's source saw a moving Ridley model on the 3DS, wouldn't that mean it's still possible via DLC? And that the Mewtwo announcement actually just adds fuel to that fire?

His voice is similar to the narrator of the goofy shorts.

Ah, THAT'S what the announcer reminded me of. Thank you! For some reason I was only thinking either various Tom Kane voiced commercials or those Hummus commercials with Jeff Tambor.

Anyway, what were the biggest things that surprised and excited you about the Direct?

Stage Builder, Great Cave Offensive, all the trophies.

I also have to wonder about the Smash board game mode. Like someone pointed out, it uses suits in the SAME EXACT way Fortune/Boom/Itadaki Street do. And that's a Square-Enix title.

I dunno it kinda just bothered me. With Mewtwo not being until spring I'm not sure how many DLC characters we're going to be seeing. He might even be the only one.

I'm hoping we're gonna get a MK8-esque pack.

A few characters, stages and trophies for a few bucks? Totally okay with that.
I reckon Mewtwo would then be either part of the paid DLC or a bonus if you own both versions.

Ah, dreaming is wonderful.

I will bet my account that they sell Mewtwo before the end of 2015.

Then everyone else can get request that their titles be changed to "I am literally incapable of deductive reasoning and should be ashamed"

You know whats funny, thats Brawl normal ridley's face, not Other M ridley.

goddamit...

everytime I watch a character trailer I'm sad that subspace emissary is gone.
Just imagine the cutscenes :(

I'm not sad at all. SSE was garbage. The cutscenes were good, but that's it. And that mode likely took away a lot of development time that would have been better spent making more stages and characters.

No SSE in SSB4 means we get more content elsewhere, which I'm grateful for.

This is the level of Gamepad support that should become standard in all future Nintendo games.

Stuff like editing the snapped shots with the Gamepad.

The Stage builder is a really strong case for the Gamepad as a design tool.

Also the Mic. Developers the Gamepad has a MIC, USE THAT THING PLEASE.

Pretty sure he specifically said it wasn't on the feed.

EDIT: Just watched it again. "You won't be able to play that way online".

Makes sense. I heard it wrong. I guess this is a use for the Amiibo then? Play an 8 player match and have an Amiibo on your side

I can't believe how packed this game is. It's like a Nintendo Encyclopedia. I would pay $100 for this game. It makes everything else look like a bad deal.

It's the same deal as the Hyrule Warriors DLC costume 'controversy'. Nintendo mentioned retailer exclusive freebies, everyone panics about it, then, woah, Nintendo sells them later.

I can't see why a rational human being (who also cares enough about a character in Smash Bros.) wouldn't buy both versions of Smash Bros. <.< Even if one is functionally kinda useless. <.<

They also specifically said, "Hey, these GBA games are a gift. They will not ever be available for sale on the 3DS eShop."

I think they actually will, once the New 3DS rolls out worldwide.

Absolutely! I was getting worried the Gamepad will be only for mirroring the damn footage of the TV screen but omg, those photo modes edit features and stage builder is just perfect.

Tempy

don't ask me for codes
I'll be spending some time in the Photo Studio and Stage Builder I bet.

Penis-shaped stages confirmed.

Ridley is a player, just AI controlled; and with Mew Two, we can imagine that the other two are more DLC.

I can imagine that. Mewtwo, Dixie, and Chorus Kids makes for a pretty solid DLC pack for mid-2015, and they'd probably all have working models at this point. Ridley could just be a misunderstanding.

Of course, Chorus Kids could be, too - since they were in the Gematsu leak, they could have had working models but been dumped alongside the Ice Climbers.

I'm pretty confident that Dixie Kong is going to make it, though. Come on Sakurai! Bring her home!

But that wasn't planned...that was extreme damage control

My point is that comparing two completely different situations is silly. Using the Mario Kart promo as an argument for Mewtwo being offered as DLC in the future doesn't make sense, since both situations are completely different. Same is true for the Ambassador games, which also were being offered in a completely different context.

Will Nintendo offer Mewtwo as DLC in the future? Well, who knows. It's certainly possible. However, making him an exclusive "loyalty bonus" would also be a very Nintendo thing to do, so acting like it's a foregone conclusion and even calling other people "idiots" for doubting it, is pretty silly.

This had 40k views on Twitch, maybe higher at some point but I only saw that. I think Nintendo is really missing out by not having streaming on the Wii U.
