I sincerely hope LBP3 does well because I personally believe that the LBP series is the number one platformer out there. The games doesn't seem to be doing too well in the pre-order front though and that worries me a bit. Yes, I know that VGC is unreliable and all but you can sort of make some estimates with them.

Great deal! Seems like PS4 going to take Europe this holidays and XB US. I think Sony does not want to push more in US and instead they want to take hold on Europe market to offset Holidays sales. Even though XB1 may outsell PS4 in US but Europe sales going to offset this. But after holidays XB1 going to suffer with increased price and no exclusives next year half where PS4 still have momentum with exclusives and December event with new game announcements.
Sunset Overdrive and the Halo Collection were obviously going to have a sizable impact on consoles sold over the last few weeks. Despite the ridiculous spin by MS I think they will just edge ahead this month.

To be honest, I'm not competitive enough to have ever thought MS were struggling. If, by the end of this generation, MS have sold 80m units and Sony 120m, I'd consider them both to be phenomenally successful consoles. bearing in mind they are both massively outselling their previous iterations, it's not impossible. MS is doing great and Sony is just doing bonkers. However, sometimes you should just look at your own performance instead of comparing it to others. A company has to be profitable, not the most profitable, to be successful.
As a One owner who will probably get a PS4 somewhere along the line (some of the upcoming exclusives do look really tempting, though those so far have not), I'm just pleased that the narrative seems to have shifted from the One being a failure to one that is now holding it's own. As long as it sells enough for multiplats to appear on it, I'm happy. MS have so much cash that they'll never struggle with exclusives as they can just pay more to compensate for any lower sales.

I agree, can't wait to see what the development tools from LBP3 going to bring with the 3D depth. This is the only platformer which has great legs and content every day to play from community levels and its great value for 60$ price.
how was the hype going into LPB2? it seems like LBP3 is being sent to die, no one is talking or covering the game which is strange considering sony has nothing else this holiday and the last two sold pretty good.

For XB1 owner(fan) Playstation exclusives are not going to tempt and it may not be for you but rest of the world believe Playstation that's why bought PS4 more than XB1 even without exclusives. XB1 had many exclusives, bundle free games, price cuts etc., still it failed to sell before and now its trying to catch up in US but it already lost in Europe and Japan. I don't think XB1 going to sell half of what PS4 will do in life time without Europe support.
Also try to compare the Sony announced exclusives list for PS4 to XB1 and see the diversity to cater every kind of gamer(instead of popular genre like XB1 do) it has along with better multi platforms, more indies support etc., Only reason for XB1 is for few exclusives and it has nothing for next year half and they are going with 3rd party exclusives to survive.

I think they're at least guaranteed to sell a couple mil in the long run but I'm not really familiar with it enough to say if it's capable of expanding its audience.

Reading Major Nelson's comment it almost sounds like sales have tripled from what it's been all year and is now almost at 10 million sold to US customers. That's what it's telling me just looking at his word and analyzing them.
Knowing the full picture it's basicly padding for storage houses and that they can count themselves lucky to have sold 10 million world wide at the end of the holiday season. The discount helped but they're losing money on it so while they are selling they're selling them at an even greater loss.

Well gamers are parents too and they may want to help children's. Children's are more creative because of their age and imagination which they can do with some help. There are hardcore gamers too playing this game but their share is less compared to causals/children's in LBP game sales and its the reason for the game legs.
Heh, I took this into consideration when I purchased my SO Bundle, but I wanted to SO and other exclusives.
At $280, I doubt MS made a profit off of my purchase, last I heard it costs $471 to manufacture a Kinect XBO. Subtract $100 for the Kinect, that's $381. At $280 I'm still well below that, and I got a free game packed in. XBL subscription was $35, factored into the SO Bundle price, Im thinking I stayed below the profit margin. Just have purchase heavily discounted or used games from here on out.

Edit: forgot the $50 for the freaking controller audio adapter and charging kit. I may just return them and wait for a sale.

Uhm sorry but as a next gen console in 4/5 years Xbox One is not gonna cut it hardware wise. It already has trouble putting 1080p with last gen remasters.
Id rather not purchase a gaming console if I know it wont be able to run the best new games at a decent framerate and at full hd. Its 2014 people not 2006.

We don't live in a future where replacement product gets teleported to store shelves once it sells.
My prediction continues to be Xbox One will basically sell out and still not make a dent on the PS4 because the total product out there for the month will be roughly equal.

I think the guy/gal has a point. We tend to overestimate the impact of our personal preferences on the industry. LBP3 may be the darkhorse for console sales this coming season and we'll have missed predicting it due to our normal confirmation bias that unnaturally inflates the importance of exclusives for example.

Well, that is the reason I buy games and game consoles. I enjoy my Xbox One and that is all that matters to me.
If Microsoft pushes changes next generation I won't like, I can just switch to PlayStation, Nintendo or PC again.

as someone who is primarily a pc gamer, i always told myself that i would definitely get a ps4 before an x1. after the whole $499 and weaker hardware stuff, i thought i would be waiting at least 2-3 years before even considering one. just got back from target and took part in the buy 2 get 1 deal. my main tipping point being MCC. and the $350 price tag is nice as well.

Am I being screwed over right now? No. I made the decision to buy the console, knowing what it was and I am happy with that.
If the console was different, maybe I wouldn't have bought it, or maybe later for a cheaper price.
I don't see how buying a now great - in my opinion - console somehow has anything to do with Microsofts plans more then a year ago. They changed it because of the outrage.
If they try to make a choice again with the next console I won't agree with, I will not buy that console.
I don't hold grudges against companies that I voluntarily choose to give money to to buy their luxury product I don't really need.
Maybe this success shows Microsoft that the changes they made work and people want a console like this, instead of the one they originally planned.

I could be wrong but its not really surprising to me that they got two weeks after another pricecut, heavily adverstised bundles and their biggest exclusive releases for the year.
But these two week aren't representative.
I also don't think its smart of Sony to focus to much on EU.
They're dominating EU anyways. Like 5:1 sales ratio to XB1.
Sony should focus on the close markets: US and UK.
But I think Sony is not in the position to go all in(financially), especially since its not really necessary. Just because MS got a few weeks in US doesn't mean the sales gap is closing. In fact I'm pretty sure that Ps4 still sold more than XB1 in those weeks worldwide, so the sales gap is still growing.

The bolded is a direct result of the outrage. That is why my posts focuses on buying the console, as should everyone. Don't like the product? Don't buy it. If enough people don't, the company changes its ways like it has done now. If still plenty of people buy it, apparently your opinion of the product is not the same as the majority of people.
