The Game Awards Nominees being announced [Update: Revealed - In OP]

Plinko

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
DK not being nominated for sound is garbage.

True. I feel game of year should represent a new experience that was truly perfected and explored this year but it doesn't seem like such a leap.

Again it's one of the best games this year but I don't think a game that is actually a step back from its predessor should be given goty when DS1 wasn't given that. It would be a bad representation of 1 and this year
Both of those points appear to be from the position that a GotY winner should be symbolic of what could make a game great, rather than simply which game was the greatest. Seems strange to me.

Halo MCC included on remasters list, but Guacamelee isn't. Guacamelee worked. By default its better.
guacamelee was my goty 2013 and probably will be again this year

I'm not going to lie, I don't normally get angry at mostly anything game reward related.
but no nomination for DKCTF in the music category makes me kinda pissed off.

Seems like a pretty good list except for the music category (not that those games don't have great scores, but it seems slanted to the orchestral side of things).

Is there actually a chance of people voting for the 3DS version over the Wii U version?

More people own the 3DS version and it's a technical feat that they got a fighting game running at 60fps on a handheld.

Granted I still think it's bullshit. Plenty of great fighting games released this year. Two slots for the same game?

Also, can I say it's an absolute travesty that Mick Gordon wasn't nominated for his work on Wolfenstein.

Best soundtrack bar none.

If Bayonetta 2 doesn't win something, show is a sham.

EDIT: Quite frankly, if Nintendo doesn't dominate this thing, show is a sham.

I too believe that all games should be judged by how exciting their sizzle reels are.

Haha well my comment about it being sold via sizzle is just me imagining how that would look from someone in a more casual audience.

The depth of Hearthstone can't be denied, I've barely scratched the surface myself. I just find it strange that a freemium game would make the list in comparison to other big titles that released this year.

I'd be absolutely amazed and disgusted if it did. Seems like a long shot, thank goodness.

Did you play it or are you just scoffing since it's an iOS title?

Because I played every one of the independent games nominated and none of them had the impact that Monument Valley did on me.

It probably wouldn't piss me off as much if their nominations came anywhere close to DKCTF's offerings...

"If Bayonetta 2 isn't nominated, show is a sham." "If Bayonetta 2 doesn't win something, show is a sham." "If Bayonetta 2 doesn't receive a lifetime achievement award next year, show is a sham."

I think you're on to something.

If Bayonetta 2 isn't core curriculum for teenagers, then american public education is a sham.

Can't wait for South Park to lose in all the categories Stick of Truth has been nominated in and for Matt and Trey to make an episode about it.

I love South Park to death and was dissapointed by the game. Played pretty meh, and the writing wasn't great. Too much fanservice and jokes recycled from the show, and not enough original jokes. The original jokes such as the finding jesus sidequest were fucking hilarious, but there just weren't enough of them.

Well this is uh... one way to present five options to choose from I guess:

These viewer voted categories are...weird and kinda problematic.

I mean, there is one correct answer, and that is Jeff Gerstmann. But he's on the panel. So many thumbs in so many pies...

Totally agree. In-game sound, is completely under represented at these events, and yet is one of the most critical components in many games. Music is indeed separate from that

Now the the site's loading for me again it says "Score/Soundtrack", so not sure if it's been changed or anything. But still, an audio category would've been nice, especially as the added some pretty nice ones into the mix like Games for Change and Narrative.

If Bayonetta 2 isn't released on Pony/Microfoot SHOW IS A SHAM!

I'm pleasantly surprised, my 3 favourite games this year were Mordor, Alien and South Park and they all got some recognition.

Although Alien should be nominated and go on to win in every category, even the indie and handheld categories, THAT'S how good it was.

Freemium games are games... and they're only going to become a bigger piece of the gaming pie.
