LOL at Jeff as winning "trending gamer." Awards show justified.

David Wise really should have been nominated for Tropical Freeze.

I'm honestly surprised that Hearthstone is getting a goty nomination. I'll root for it, but judging by the acclaim and praise I can definitely see Bayonetta 2 taking it.

Well, at least we can be sure Ubisoft Montreal won't be Developer of the Year even if its nominated.

It surprises me to see Heartstone being one of the GOTY-contenders. Is it really that good? I've always wanted to try it but kinda forgot.

And I don't see why both versions of Super Smash Bros are nominated. They're essentially the same game.

The first person perspective is a cool addition, and it does feel like a new way to play it, but it's not holistically integrated, it feels like an afterthought despite the substantial animation work. There are missions where it's just not at all practical, and there are times where the game just automatically kicks you out of it. It's cool, but I don't think it's comparable to colossally improving the base game as TLoU did.

But is it "colossally improved"?

Also can we make this format permanent? None of the past winners seem relevant anymore because of all the changes. I was just looking at the long history the Oscars have and it would be great this can reach up to that level.

He has probably no chance if either Totalbiscuit or Pewpewpie sends their fanbase to the site. If it happens, I think Pewpewpie will win and make the others look pathetic. If they'll do that of course.

This is gonna sound a bit stupid, but honestly what kind of people DO like Pewdiepie? I had never even heard of him until I seen a lot of people here bitching about him, after watching him play 5 minutes of Alien it wasn't hard to see why.

Yeah I agree, it's how the tool we are using for social voting works. I think we can turn on the percentages to show how much of the vote each game has, that might help clarify.
Formatting aside, you're doing a really great job so far, Geoff. Lots of honest/great nominations and interesting categories. Also the presentation of the whole thing has been top notch.
It needs a category to award the art direction even more if it already has soundtrack and narrative.
I would REALLY like to see this happen for next year. Basically just have a 'prettiest game' category. But I could easily seeing that get messy.

If that's the best tool available to you for the voting and there's no way to make the images all the same size, then that's unfortunate, but at least I've noticed some fluctuation in the places.

Go Mordor GO!!!

Yes, a game that shamelessly aped most of the gameplay systems of a franchise that is on its way to a fourth iteration should definitely be awarded GOTY.

Honestly, I don't care about any of these nominees. Shovel Knight is the best game I played this year.

As much as I love all the soundtrack nominated and it may seem kind of cliche, Destiny should take it. There is some seriously impressive stuff in that score and while the other soundtracks are quirky/catchy/well written/independent/etc, nothing really touches the quality of Destiny's.

How the hell are they even nominated?

Well, they DID bring us great stuff like South Park (though, they only published it/saved it from publishing limbo), Child of Light, and Valiant Hearts.

Whether that balances out the Watch Dogs/Unity BS is another thing, but they've had their fair share of greatness this year, too.

I really like a lot of the nominee choices for these categories. I hope this is indicative of what end of the year award discussions on various sites will be like because there is some solid variety here.

Well, to put in perspective, Totalbiscuit has 1 853 731 subscribers whilst PewDiePie has 32 319 001 subscribers on youtube.

Even if only a fraction goes to vote, it wouldn't even be close.

Best remaster should definitely either go to Pokemon or GTA. There is no other competition. GTA is a godly remaster with so much fresh content and amazing graphics. Pokemon, on the other hand, is more than just a simple remaster. It is a complete overhaul and remake of the Hoenn games and can completely be considered its own thing. The amount of added goodness to ORAS push it beyond just a remaster and into new game territory. But thats just my two cents and everyone is entitled to their own opinion :)

You just made me realize there isn't a best graphics section. I'm ok with that.

The one thing I don't like is that Most Anticipated is so restricted to 5 games because for a fan vote you should allow the fans to push what they want. OTOH I can see the flaws behind that approach.

The first flaw is that the other categories should also be free form.
The second flaw is that popularity contests like this are heavily influenced by marketing budgets and as a result don't raise awareness of stand out projects and personalities.

I think a better solution is to increase the fan vote nominees to 7 or 10 and to create a page for each nominee detailing their measured impact on the community such as parodies and easter eggs, mentions in social media/forums, and charity projects forming around these projects.

No Grimrock 2, Might & Magic X or Wasteland 2 anywhere. Couldn't even be bothered to get Divinity Original Sin's name right.

Yea this is a Geoff Keighly joint alright.

Nominees aren't too bad, but I have a few nitpicks:

1) Metro Redux should be up for Best Remaster.
2) Best Remaster shouldn't be a category.
3) Civilization: Beyond Earth isn't nominated for anything.
4) MGSV isn't a nominee for most anticipated.
5) Needs more Captain Toad.

Besides the misspelled Bravely Default (Braverly...really?), the website is pretty slick and nice! I voted for Jeff and Bloodborne. I wish I could have voted for C9 for team and Faker for player so I abstained from voting for those (didn't want to spam my twitter TOO much)

Seriously. Oh, well, it will be most anticipated when Kojima drops that release date to end the show!

Why is 'Luigi Death Stare' a choice for best fan creation? Are memes original creative works now?

Who would you 'award' that to anyway? The internet?

Just noticed this on the footer of the website:

The Game Awards is not affiliated with or produced by Viacom Media Networks or Spike TV.

I doubt they needed to include that for legal reasons, just very much wanted to distance themselves from those award shows.

If they know what they're doing they'll give Marty the score award, and invite him up on stage to collect.

Make sure there's alcohol available, I want to hear everything about his unceremonious departure from Bungie.

I guess Mordor is pretty solid. That's good to hear.

What a great year for RPGs. Glad South Park is getting recognized but I think Mario Kart 8 could have gotten more love.
