Amiibo Discussion Thread

Best Buy near me was surprisingly understocked on amiibos. No Marios or Marths left. I pre-ordered two of each and was short 1 Marth. They had every other character but not very many of each. Headed over to Target and picked up the other Marth.

The detail is pretty good, though some of the paint jobs are inconsistent. There was a Marth with eyes that were way off kilter and some that were perfect. Definitely worth it head to a store so you can choose instead of ordering online.

My Samus is tilted, like all the way to the left lol. I'm going to go buy another later.....grrr Nintendo. The figure is top notch otherwise it's our best chance to nab a cheap Samus figure :3

I gotta say...the process of being able to easily beat your Amiibo fighter, then being only able to win half of the time and then going to constantly getting your ass rocked was kind of cool. :p

I bought 3 and that will be it for me until the next round of figures. If any of you guys are around Redmond, WA, the Target there have *plenty* of Amiibos left. Although I took the last Samus figure!

Oh man, Marth looks even worse than peach. Samus is the only good looking one out of wave 1.
I got Yoshi and Kirby. They're -excellent.- I also got a good look at Mario, Donkey Kong and Fox in person, and they looked great, as well. Very solid builds, clean lines, etc.

A lot of them had tiny flecks of paint in weird areas. Just a spot here or there that didn't belong.

Villager's nose is painted brown, many of them had an extra strip of brown below the nose, or a little too much paint on the nose that stretched off of it to the left or right onto the face.

All of this was VERY minor though. Had to look close to see it at all, I honestly probably wouldn't have had a problem with any of them, but since I was able to pick and choose obviously I got the best.

Ok, thanks for the help. I think I'll stick to my plan on going down to a retail store when they release in the UK (although I wonder how many GAME will stock), and seeing the differences for myself, since the quality doesn't sound consistent enough for me to not want to secure the nicest looking one I can. If the differences don't seem too major, I'll order online in the future.

Amazon just shipped my Link Amiibo. I didn't feel like fighting the crowds and Link was the one I HAD to have, so I preordered him about a month ago. The rest of them I'll try to grab as I hit up stores here and there. Looking forward to grabbing Fox and Samus next.

Quality control is definitely a problem.

I looked through all six Kirby figures, and 5 of them had black smudges on their sides.

Also, it seems as though all Peach figures have her outward palm unpainted with an awkward mark in the center.

All of the Pikachu figures had dark colored streaks on their tails, and you can see the circle from the molding process on their tails too.

Yoshi had excess glue on the leg pieces or nose piece that looked pretty bad in most of them.

I bought the only unscuffed Kirby I could find, and a Mario and Samus, because the paint jobs were about perfect as well.

I know I won't ever be ordering these online and leaving it up to fate to not end up with a a messed up figure.

So I wound up with way too many Amiibos. I had a bunch of store credit at Gamestop that I wasn't aware of, so I got Link, Mario, Peach, Samus, Kirby, and Wii Fit Trainer is coming in the mail from Amazon.

Mario and Peach are running an 60 minute 8 player match against 6 randoms right now to level up and find me items while I do homework/procrastinate and post on GAF.

Just bought a Wii Fit trainer only because everyone is saying it was rare. My Toys R Us had 5 left compared to 20 marios.

Marth and Villager no where to be found so good thing I picked it up at 12am this morning ;)

Went by TRU during lunch and picked up 3 amiibo's. They had everything except Villager and Wii Fit trainer. When I first got there the Marios appeared to be sold out but I asked a lady and they had some more in the back. While I was picking out which figures I wanted another guy came up and asked the lady about Villager. She said they didn't have any and from what she had been told by other customers everybody else in town was sold out as well, which the guy confirmed.

Plenty of Marths at this location.

Here's a kind of simulation of what I was talking about, what I saw in the store:

So, to share some experience with Amiibos at midnight launch yesterday.

My local GS had about 6-10 or so per figure available in stock on display. I was able to get one easily without pre-order, and a number of other people there bought them as well. It was a fairly smaller GS location in a less populated area of Austin, but it is what it is.

It's likely the "display" Amiibos I mentioned above were non-preorders, as they had more in the back that they took out for pre-orders. Not sure what that means, but they at least stocked a good amount in expectation of people wanting them.

It's likely that they are expecting a lot more people to buy them straight-up without pre-ordering.

Gives all the fucks
Was thinking of picking up Link, but decided against it & got the GCN adapter. Not to mention, when I went in today, all the Links were gone, save for one pre-order. Just hope I can get one for Xmas.

It's going to be interesting to see which characters are the most popular. I wonder if Link was sold out on the ground he works on the most games, if he's one of the most well-known, or both.

Low-rez twitter pic but here is what i have set up for my girls when they get home from school:

Still have to pick up Pokemon for them later.

I ordered a Samus with my game. UPS is currently holding her captive though. After seeing some pictures I might get Fox and Link too.

After toys r us delayed my order I cancelled it and went to my local one in person. They had a whole bunch. Probably 20+ each or more of everyone except for villager/trainer/Marth. The only had 3 marths/trainers and about 6 villagers. It also looked like no one got there yet since the display looked full like barely anyone bought any so it definitely looks like they're just shipping out less copies of those 3.

Bought these cause GAF said they were rare. Best Buy plenty to go through.

I got them, now what do I do? My Smash hasn't come through UPS. I feel like I got jipped from Nintendo again.

That Pikachu though. Swag as a mofo.

Got these today and plan on finishing the set tonight. Amazon sent me an extra Fox so I have two,I'll keep one sealed I guess.

I shot people I like more for less.
I went to Toys R Us earlier and grabbed Samus, Yoshi, and Kirby. They're smaller than I thought they were going to be, but I really like how they look. They had plenty of them when I went (they had an entire aisle half for them), but I live in a smaller area.

So how exactly do these work? Can the Wii U pick up the signal without having to open them up? Seems like the bases are pretty close to the bottom of the packaging.

Nope there's a metal plate to prevent exactly that so people can't bring them home, scan them, and return them

Just got 9 of my 12 delivered from Amazon. The other three come on Monday (Link, Samus, and Marth). Not sure why they took longer to fulfill, but I knew it at the time of order.

Any ideas when they will work in MK8 and Hyrule Warriors? I know in MK8, there is a place in the menu for it, but not sure if it's active yet.

No, there is a foil sticker underneath the base that stops it from reading through the packaging like Skylanders and Infinity figs do/can.

Edit: Beaten...

There's actually a whole thread dedicated to the rage this practice induces in some GAF'ers. It doesn't bother me 'cuz I open all of my Skylander (and soon, amiibo) figures. I don't plan to try and defraud retailers.
