I'm sure they'd like Persona 5, but Sony are going to be much more willing to co-market it, because it's not really going to sell anything on XBO anyway. If Sony weren't involved, it'd already be on XBO.

It's also port begging. Which is frowned upon here.
So then I guess I'm allowed to say I think it would be a smart move for Phil to work with Atlus to bring Persona 5 to Xbox One. He gets another high profile JRPG on the console which will satisfy some of the people and fulfill the statement he made about the genre on Xbox One

Considering history, can you see SMT/Persona anything be on consoles/handhelds outside Sony/Nintendo?
Given Katherine and the very similar internals of PS4 and XBO, I'm pretty confident an XBO SKU would have been considered, but presumably they'd lose co-marketing cash from Sony, and it'd ultimately cost more to sell less. All speculation though obviously, who knows.

I expect SE to bring out the FF and KH series. Namco, NISA, Atlus, Gust, DQ series are probably never happening on rhe Xbox family. From Software will probably release rhe Dark Souls 3 as a multi. Other than that all MS has going for them is Mistwalker making new IP's or making sequals to Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. Phis wasn't lying that there wouldn't be JRPG's on Xbone, juat that it'll consist of 5% or less of the available JRPG games out there.

Heard good things about Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Hopefully they internally develop a new JRPG. Always good to see more

Has MS ever made an internal JRPG? As in a true first party dev making a JRPG? I'm actually really curious.

Microsoft's internal software development teams are pretty much nonexistent on the Xbox Gaming side. Instead, they tend to buy out studios (Rare, Lionhead, etc).

They really should have more. They're easily the console manufacturer who puts out the least amount of internally-developed titles.

This thread needs more Lost Odyssey references. I'd love a sequel (extremely unlikely) or a remaster (very unlikely). I know if had a few issues but Lost Odyssey is my favorite JRPG of all time.

People want good exclusive games. The partnership with sakaguchi led to 2 great games. Hell Lost Odyssey with all its problems was probably still my favorite JRPG last Gen.

Well yeah, but it's like, if you're a person interested in JRPGs, there are other consoles that are quite a bit more likely to get them. Maybe get one of those instead of getting an Xbox and asking where the JRPGs are?

The Mistwalker deal was nice, but Microsoft hasn't exactly been committed to the tactics that lead to its creation (for obvious reasons), and Spencer acknowledged in the OP that he hasn't talked to Sakaguchi in a long time. And the JRPGs that went to other platforms because of their install base in Japan far outnumbered Mistwalker's 360 exclusives.

Even Mistwalker didn't internally develop those games (they outsourced them to other developers & oversaw design). That's one of the reasons why I think sequels are pretty unlikely. That and Mistwalker is mobile-focused these days & Blue Dragon already got several sequels (in different genres & not on Xbox).

Hey, atleast he's being honest. FF15, Type 0 and KH3, and Dark Souls 2 are all coming to Xbox One.

Although, if they ever did bring out a fully funded big budget JRPG for Xbox One that was really good, i'd have to buy one automatically. I really got milage out of my 360 playing Last Oddysey, Blue Dragon, Tales of Vesperia and even Eternal Sonata in the beginning, before the PS3 port. Heck i even had "fun" playing Star Ocean 4, even though i could only think about while playing was how much i just wanted to play SO3 instead

Doesn't Mistwalker also own half of Lost Odyssey, so MS can't just go off and make a new game without their work?

Lets hope he doesn't just mean third party shiz cause that's a given.

Also, a couple of JRPG's like on the 360 is not enough.

They generally sold like shit on the 360 compared to the PS3. It's been a strong deterrent to the remaining Japanese studios pushing their wares there. I wouldn't expect that many.

There's next to zero fanbase of FF in Xbox One.

Based on what exactly? We know that FF13 did better on PS3, but the game still sold well outside of Japan on the 360. If you have numbers or info showing that users on the X1 couldn't care less about Final Fantasy, I'd love to see them.

It's a generic and obvious answer to a dumb question on twitter. How on earth does it sound reactionary to anything?

The only real news here is that they haven't talked to Sakaguchi in awhile

I Should have phrases that differently. People asking him about an XO JRPG seems reactionary to the news about a PS4 JRPG.

There hasn't been a single Kingdom Hearts game yet on a Xbox platform. So putting Kingdom Hearts 3, technically the 10th game in the series, and is finishing off the entire "Xehanort" story arc on Xbox One is REALLY weird.

I would also hazard a guess that every Final Fantasy game that has been put out on both Sony and Microsoft platforms has sold better on the Sony platform. I have no numbers to back this up, nor any sources, just simply a guess. Still, Final Fantasy is a series that doesn't depend on having prior game knowledge to play through a game, so that's less of a problem comparatively to KH3 being on XBO.

Well said, sums up how I feel about the current state of multiplatform SE games. KH being weird, and FF selling better on Sony platforms. Regardless, it makes sense from a business stand point to put it out on multiple consoles.

So we are ognoring the existance of Turn 10, 343 and Black Tusk?

We also don't know what exactly Scalebound is.

It's pretty obvious what Scalebound is. It's Bayonetta / Revengeance but with massive fights (Dragons). I'm sure it'll have some big unprecedented boss fights for a platinum game that'll make fans pretty happy...and everyone else yawn.

A JRPG it is not.

Didn't we have news about MS building a studio at Osaka? They must be cooking something for Japanese market.
