Probably already commented on but, the Sith, could be Luke right? The robe sort of reminds of what he wore in RotJ. Well it's black, and that robe was black....

ok, probably not.

Re: Star Trek, first one was good, and I actually commented to a friend that it was more Star Wars than Star Trek at times, due to the interior of the ships, where as in Star Trek previously all interiors were mostly slick, whilst in Star Trek 09 it was more "industrial". So that speaks for JJ being able to make this good.

And it begins. Let them suffer.

Was getting caught part of your plan?
Star Trek 2009 is better than pretty much every other Trek film other than 2 and 6.

Yes. Say what you will about Into Darkness, but the 09 reboot knocks almost every other ST film out of the park. At the very least, it remains one of my favorite sci-fi action movies of the last decade.

No. The first one is legit good.

The 2nd movie was just lazy though. Its basically the exact same story arch from the 1th movie beat for beat but they tossed in some more Wrath of Khan references.

second movie is crap for basically taking a dump on 2 by doing the whole spock dying (but this time kirk!) thing that was legit shocking and touching back then and ruining it by "lol kidding he's alive" 2 seconds later instead of waiting for the next film at least

I assumed it was what the thread title said it is.

Is there going to be another longer trailer coming in a week or so? If that's the case, I'm pretty excited.

oh, my bad, bad thread title!!
i was under the impression that it was common knowledge that the first TEASER would be released today.

Good teaser. I liked the look of it. The colors and film quality mirrored the original trilogy, and all the ships looked beat up. Falcon looked good.

Laser-hilt is the dumbest fucking thing, though. Oh well, gotta sell them new toys.

Also, thumbs up for not just displaying some generic white dude hero. Props.

i think it's adam driver. the trailer made a point of showing the young newcomers bodega, ridley, and isaac, so i would guess the cloaked dude is the last one (driver)

could be von sydow, though. they have roughly the same frame

I don't think Abrams has ever made a good film really, but I also think he was the perfect choice for SW7. His entire career feels like it was building towards making Star Wars.

I think this is going to be the first non-Cameron film to hit two billion.

the Star Trek teaser was pretty good.

I loved that teaser. It's created to present just a single concept, showing a level of focus and creating a powerful image with its limited time. Comparing that to scattered random scenes with no context (and many of them not being interesting shots at that), I feel like more information about what the movie is about is shared with the Star Trek teaser than this one.

Am I alone in liking Abram's Star Trek?

First one was overall okay but still suffered from serious pacing/plot hole issues. Second was straight up terrible. Beautifully shot. But terrible.

Even the first tails a number of other Trek films though in everything but effects. Pity as I really liked the cast he assembled but he clearly had no actual interest in the thematics and tone of the franchise.

Man how depressing some of your guys lives must be if you cannot just get psyched from this and instead feel the need to whine and complain about such petty things. Just let it go and let the movie magic wash over you.

I felt goosebumps through out the trailer. Loved it.

No. I like it a lot though not at all in the same way as other Trek. It's like apples and oranges to me. If you go from the more cerebral Next Generation series to the reboot series expecting the same thing, you're not going to be happy. The complaints that it is lacking a lot of what makes Star Trek..Star Trek are basically true. Then again, lots of the classic movies lacked it as well. As its own piece of entertainment however it's still very cool and I enjoy it a lot.
I do hope that someday Star Trek has a new series that gets back to its roots and deals more with morals and ethics like TNG did. Embracing the bright future that Gene Roddenberry imagined. It's the real heart of Trek. Until then I'm still very entertained by Abrams Trek.

Though I'm not interested in debating these points with anyone here because I don't want to derail the Star Wars thread :)

fucking lol

that first shot of boyega tells me way more about this film than the "we're building the enterprise cause its a new star trek and this is all we're trying to convey" teaser

Why are people comparing the Ball Droid to JarJar.

It's the new R2D2.

Also, Star Wars fan are a hella tough crowd. No wonder George just said, "Fuck it, I'm selling this".

I enjoyed both of them immensely, but not really as Star Trek movies per se. It's not really Roddenberry's vision, it's a reimagined action-based spin-off, and as that, it's great.

Not to clown too hard at your pulling a single frame from an 88 second trailer and using it to make a judgment about the movie entire, but there's dirt all over the bike she's on, and she's got a giant pair of goggles on her head, sitting over a headwrap that i'm pretty sure COVERS HER FACE. So if her face is clean it might be because of the fact she keeps it covered when she's driving around the desert on a giant creamsicle engine.

Or she stepped off a ship 10 seconds before that, or came out of a building, or whatever million other reasons there could be to be clean ;P

I think the teaser is rad, I'm very excited. I think it will be good, I just don't think his efforts so far have been. I don't think they really care about it being a great film, just a must-see event, and he is more than capable of delivering that.

apart from him not treating franchises (Mission Impossible, Star Trek) you care about (?) well in your opinion, what's your problem with Super 8? It was a decent love letter to 80s adventures movies and i liked it a lot.

i feel sorry for the people who hated the trailer. So much fucking hate. Are you really that dead inside you can't enjoy a teaser trailer for a science fiction movie?

against my better judgment (i didn't like star trek 09) i'm hype for this.

i feel like the saber crossguard enables some esoteric irl swordfighting technique i have no idea about.

I don't understand this, having main characters in sequels = nostalgia? I understand they are not the main characters of this trilogy but if they were it would work like any sequel, new stories with characters we love.

I want good new stories and if it involves my favorite movie characters of all time the better.

I want movies to offer new ideas and new iconic moments instead of relying on the old movies.

It's one thing to have Han, Luke and Leia there and it's another to have an entire movie revolve around them. Their story was already told, and well told. Let some new blood in.

I don't want the movie to be full of "remeber Empire?" because it's not by relying on the past that new and great movies are made.

And I fucking love Star Wars and those characters but I want something new in that universe that can stand on it's one.

I don't want another "let's call Spock" or "remember those old movies"moments like they had on the latest Star Trek because I already have those old Star Wars movies and what I want is new stuff.
