Everyone's in here complaining about the lightsaber while I was losing it at how cool it seemed. That cross.

Soccer ball robot is the only thing in this trailer that was really questionable.

Could someone explain to me what is so questionable about that bot? I don't get the weird backlash it's getting.

Such a silly rule
IMO of course

And yet it's served me well over the years that I've employed it. As I mentioned in another thread about it, it's not a hard, ironclad rule, but I've noticed, for me personally, a correlation between how balls awesome a trailer is, and how underwhelming it ultimately turned out to be, and how some movies that have weak trailers, have often surprised me. As I mentioned before, it's more of a psychological thing. When a trailer is amazing, your expectations tend to be higher, so if the movie fails to meet those expectations, you are disappointed. If the trailer isn't so great, and the movie turns out to be decent, you are surprised, as it exceeded your expectations.

My example is Three Kings. I was incredibly underwhelmed by that trailer, but ended up loving the actual movie. On the flip side, I was so blown away by the Man of Steel trailer, and I absolutely loathe that movie. Ditto for Sucker Punch. So whenever I see a trailer that has me excited, I tend to reign in my expectations.

As much of a Star Wars fanatic as I am, it is not an exception. I'm incredibly excited for the new movie, but I'm keeping my expectations in check. I enjoy J.J. Abrams movies, so I'm expecting, at the very least, that this movie is going to be entertaining.

So tired of hearing this nonsense.

To say George Lucas ruined(or even "raped") anything is beyond disrespectful. Dude gave me my childhood in the first place.

I think re-using the ship designs is definitely nostalgia bait. Same for the Storm Trooper armor. The Millenium Falcon is fine, but X-Wings and TIE Fighters should be out of date and out of use by now.

Good luck getting the Trade Federation on board to raise taxes to pay for that shit. Btw, the US military is still using equipment from WW2.

After watching the unnamed Sith sequence a few more times, I'm not at all convinced that that actually is a lightsaber. Not only is the blade extremely unstable and erratic looking, it almost whips out when he ignites it, but it also doesn't sound at all like a lightsaber. The ignition sound is totally wrong, and it's completely missing the lightsaber hum. I think this character may have created this weapon with only the most basic notions of what a lightsaber was, and did his/her best in guessing how to construct one.

Between this and Avengers they are going to make so much. I'm not even sure which movie will make the most. I'm leaning toward Star Wars though.

star wars i think. the hype will be palpable. much moreso than any comic book movie ever will generate i'm sure. especially when the merchandising and taco bell shit (lol) starts happening.

really glad Disney didn't buy DC and Hasbro as well. feels like they're trying to have a stranglehold on the hearts and minds of the youth.

I almost had a fucking orgasm over the first Phantom Menace trailer. After this I was like 'looks nice'.

And it does look nice, but judging from the camera work, photography and tone, it really doesn't look like the Star Wars I know and love at all. They even fudged the music at the end.

I find that the more awesome the trailer, the more shit the film is.

TPM's teaser was awesome. This (and Jurassic World's) were just "good."

20 years pass between Episodes III and IV, and the tech is radically different.

yeah, as in some of the tech looks better in the prequels. that kind of consistency tends to be fucked

also, to be fair, between 6 and this, star wars happens. empire is shaken up and whatnot, trade federation doesnt exist, it's not exactly smooth sailing

My only issue with it is how the fuck does it work practically?

Electromagnets binding the two pieces together.

The top part is on a track that runs down the middle of the bottom part only you can't see the track because the camera shot is from the side.

In a world like Star Wars you really need to ask how this thing works practically?

I like this theory.

Exactly, so there should be a mix of newer tech and even more dilapidated old tech. The X-Wings and TIE Fighters look far too pristine for a war that has been raging for around fifty years now.

I'm gonna assume that his light saber was all crackly and shit because he had to make it himself now that all the Sith are dead so there's no one to show him how to make a legit one. I mean yeah, it looks way more evil that way anyway, but it seems like too much of a departure from literally every other lightsaber in the series to not have any justification behind it. Looking forward to seeing lightclaymore 2.0 in the sequel.

Edit: damn, beaten.

some people are hyperbolic, but george lucas isn't a good film maker and when he went to make the prequels he completely didn't understand SW fans or what those fans liked about those movies.

I'm sure the JJ abrams movie will be far better, since he's not george lucas. That said, JJ has shown he's quite capable of making a bad mov--- ehh, I won't sidetrack. XD

Looks cool, I'm excited, but the light saber is weird given the fact that it increases that persons chances of getting their own hand cut off.

Nothing seemed that pristine to me other than the newer troopers. It did give me the vibe of them hanging on to older technology for a bit too long which is probably what they tried to convey and what we're talking about.

i thought that too but jedis been doing crazy acrobatics with this shit (and the slightest touch can burn them) without scratches. so I'm pretty sure this guy's got a handle on this variant.
