Tekken 7 - Lucky Chloe revealed

By Tekken 2 the roster was already off the rails with Bears, Devils, Angels, boxing Kangaroos and Dinosaurs. We are on 7 and I am having trouble getting upset with anything they put in this game at this point. Some of the "Not in my Tekken" posts are laughable.

How can you think that the No more Heroes/fire emblem awakening designer sucks?
Haven't played them so I have no opinion on those titles. I was just taking his statement back a step. We wouldn't be sucky whiners if they didn't release a sucky designed character lol.

You missed when the conversation covered that within the times, those things were cool and funny but also hidden, unlockable and not advertised as *NEW Character! Buy our game!* Those they advertised had legit fighting styles and cool designs (for the times) back then.

Im not really upset perse like she's particularly out of place, just meh. She's not really inspired, as we've seen the overly cute and kawaii archetype done too many times. Let's freshen it up with some new types

I don't remember any Tekken character being region-locked before. Nor have they ever done exclusive characters like SC has. So I don't know, I think maybe Harada is just freaked because he didn't expect the backlash from the non-Japanese players about his Idolm@ster fetish, so he's trying to placate everyone until the heat dies down.

Also, I think it's BS to criticize people for expressing a non-hyped viewpoint about a new character. Tekken characters have always been divisive, and this is no different. I think those of us who don't appreciate Chloe have legitimate concerns. This kind of fetish moe character does not stylistically mix with the Tekken vibe, her fighting style is dubious, and I worry that Harada is starting to focus too much on the local Japanese audience. I want Tekken to continue to sell well, and creating characters with a narrow audience focus doesn't help that, especially if existing characters are removed to make room for them.

Not a good argument, humans had simplistic diligent designs for the most part, it goes a long way to validate trash like Lars and Claudio by mentioning Alex/Roger.

No no,I've already stated that I don't support this kind of censorship so to speak.

But if she were never designed/implemented/revealed... we wouldn't be having these quibbles.

I'm of the viewpoint where I want Tekken to evolve to stay relevant, not necessarily for my own tastes. Why is it that MK9 gets a celebration when it was released and SF4 too when it was revealed while Tekken just sort of comes and goes? MK fixed the lore and added an amazing SP campaign for SP folks and also became a competitive game for the MP crowd. SF came back with a new visual style and brought fighters back to the forefront. I'm the type of Tekken fan that wants the fanfare for this series as well. It will never get it if it keeps not being Tekken (the Tekken that'll remind old and perhaps casual players why they loved Tekken like real martial arts, advancing storyline and updated designs) in favor of being competitve only with fetish characters.

If people wouldn't be childish about having to personally approve every single character in a big fighting game, that'd be okay too.

Remember when Marie Rose was the character in Dog who was kind of like Lili?

Anyway I'm not digging this girl's design but whatever. I love Tekken and there are plenty of other characters to play.

Wow, I hope he is kidding about taking her out of the US version. I think it would be terrible if we lose a character. Thank you US gamers. If this is legitimate, I am getting the Japanese or European version to get access to everything. I say at least try her before you criticize or formulate opinions. She might even be fun to use and I am willing to give her a chance. It isn't like 80% of the roster consists of kawaii, loli girls. There are plenty of different characters to play.

Its ridiculous that people are making so much drama over a single character in a gigantic roster. I mean, can't you just not use her? I seriously don't get it.

The 2D art reminds me very much of a character from Gatchaman Crowds, in the color scheme especially.

I actually like the design. It comes across as goofy pop star rather than "loli for the heavy breather". I guess to some everything looks like loli and the most moey of moe.

Fighting games have long been plagued with stupid bitch characters and Tekken is no exception. Lucky *KAWAII* Chloe, is the antithesis of manly violence, the focused embodiment of everything that's wrong with Tekken, the polar opposite of everything that is cool about fighting games.

Through the twisted looking glass of a fever dream Namco was able to conjure a skinny white girl that spins and flips and pirouettes while flapping her little hands and improbable angles, and we the Tekken audience are supposed to believe her unlikely gesticulations are inflicting damage to badasses like Heihachi, Brian, and Paul? If this doesn't bother you, you are the problem.

Every time someone wins with Chloe the gods of Tekken die a little. This is the King of the Iron Fist Tournament, not the Newport Beach Cotillion. This is a game where dudes punch each other in the face and stomp each other into the ground. If rhythmic gymnastics is more to your liking, go attach a pretty ribbon to a stick, put on a sundress, and go frolic in a god damn field. Your bullshit has no place in the world of Tekken.

GAF whining also forced Sakurai to remove Ridley from Smash.

In all seriousness that really sucks for American players if Harada's not joking. A pretty blatant joke design in a series filled with wacky characters. Bleh.

This must be TZ's version of "Square needs to apologize". Well done.

Back when these games came out information was provided in monthly magazines. Hardly fair to try and compare the way information is provided during the information age to print. Taking up valuable magazine real estate is not the same as releasing whatever media you want about anything with the click of a mouse. We know more about everything. Does this character not have a legit fighting style? What parts of this character's fighting style are illegitimate exactly?

Funny you ask as my three favs, Soul Cali, MK, Tekken, all do (did in Tekken's case). The point is Tekken no longer does. Just because others don't doesn't automatically mean Tekken shouldn't.

But that was when Tekken had a story it cared about. And I understand that there will supposedly be new alts for 7, but it'll still feel so stale if the UI and cg art and marketing all showcase these old designs. Competitive players don't care, but if you want a sequel and post launch support, you're gonna need sales. Most casuals think this looks more like the same with lame new chara ters based on all T7 threads I've peeked in. How could you be comfortable with that and at the same time scoff it off as a worthless opinion?

Most fighting game developers stick with the same costumes because they want to keep their own iconic look. Games like Street Fighter, King if Fighters Guilty Gear, Dead or Alive have kept the same character designs over the years, while changing a few others. If you're giving a lot of options and alternate costumes, then it really shouldn't matter.

I don't get why people hold the notion of "I don't like it so I'll make sure nobody else can have it".

Whatever happened to just not buying the game and letting other people be happy with what they get?

Wasn't expecting to hear that Yusuke Kozaki designed her. I prefer his illustration over her actual implementation in-game, though (I nitpick the jacket more than anything else).

And wow, this much arguing and/or complaining about her so far, to the point that Harada (jokingly?) claims she won't be in the US release? There are oceans with less salt.

To me, Tekken was always about fighters that looked like fighters and then really strange, unique characters.

The problem with Lucky Chloe is she doesn't fit into either of these categories. She clearly doesn't look like a fighter and her moe/anime-something style is, well, boring and kinda lame.

Are you serious? Harada is a fucking huge Idolmaster fan.

Lucky Chloe isn't really an evolution in aesthetics...

And I think people were talking mostly about the graphics, which don't appear to be an insane leap over 6.

I remember tons of complaints about how Tekken 6 didn't look to be an insane leap over T5DR too, and he had to field those back then too

Anyway, i really hope Harada dont take out any characters. Don't be so thin skinned my man, people complain all the time, you dont have to freak out like TTT2 when people said they were not going to buy the game if every single character wasnt in there. Fuck those guys and make the game your making

Caught up with the Lucky Chloe news on Harada's Twitter.

Can't believe this supposed "fan" outcry led to her being exclusive to Asia/Europe versions of Tekken 7.
