Vita means life?

Sad to see all those titles get nixed, I do want to know more about the Infamous spin-off and the steampunk game.

I don't know what to think. I don't like how they kept scrapping ideas for a new ip and i don't like how Sony kept pushing for UC. There's nothing positive here.

What about it doesn't sound amazing?

Futuristic sci-fi environment with what I imagine are lots of very high buildings, etc and a very agile character thanks to jet boots. The potential is off the charts.

That kind of vague description could make even Lair sound interesting.

I was deprived of a handheld infamous, a steampunk game and a sci fi game with jet boots because of Sony?

Fuck you Sony. I'm glad you're closing all 14 stores in Canada.

Oh. Thread's back open.
I find it hard to believe that their game turned out worse than 2 and Burning Skies.
See the Infamous Vita title should have been a no brainer...

Infamous 2 > Good Ending Selected as Canon > Infamous Second Son on PS4

Infamous 2 > Bad Ending Selected as Alternate Universe > Infamous Vita

Sad that this didn't happen!
That's...actually not a bad idea.
Let Garvin rest. Sony, I will make you a new Syphon Filter game. Give me 100 million dollars and complete creative control.
25 million dollars with Clint Hocking as lead level designer and you have a deal.

I personally am glad they are making a new IP.

There are way too many sequels out there already.

Though, I gotta admit, a new Jak title would be awesome.

They should have given them Killzone and let Cambridge make a MediEvil game -.-

Edit: Also, thank god ND have a say in the running of their franchises because Sony is usually clueless.

So basically Naughty Dog didn't want them to touch (LOL) Uncharted after the abysmal Gold Abyss

Thank you based ND.

People should stop referencing data that makes me feel uncomfortable because games get ported to platforms I don't like
Well that's depressing to read...
It seems like the PS4 came and squashed alot of hope/weight for potential PS Vita titles...
I enjoyed Uncharted:Golden Abyss and I would have easily bought another Uncharted game by Sony Bend or InFamous game. It's also a shame what happened to Zipper Interactive as I'm finally playing through Unit 13 after sitting in my backlog for so long and I'm enjoying the game.

Ah, so Sony Bend is Sony's Rare in a way; pitching great ideas left and right but keep being pushed down for 'reasons'. Hell, its even worse for Bend, as at least Rare's Kinect stuff sold well; all of Sony Bend's projects despite being great games don't sell that well :(.

This is further support that Sony gives two shits about the Vita; we could of had three great games for the platform (Golden Abyss 2, New IP, and Infamous Vita) but nope, just scrap all of them due to the Vita underpreforming and versions of those games existing on the PS3/PS4 :l.

.....I love my Sony systems (the Vita is the best handheld I've ever own next to the GBA SP :D) but....this is worse than Santa Monica scrapping their very impressive new IP for the PS4 X(.

I just hope their PS4 project is a success, so that way they will stop being treated as the 'lesser' studio within Sony :l.

We don't know if they were great ideas.

Souns like a really tough time for sony Bend these past Years...

Unlike many other Sony Studios they dont really have an existing franchise that they could continue on the Ps4 (god of war , uncharted, infamous, killzone)

Wish them best luck for the future and i hope their new game will be a success

This is further support that Sony gives two shits about the Vita;

The first sentence when expanded to other AAA games on vita explains why they won't greenlight big games.

WWS have themselves explained that they cannot afford to put out these games because 1.Nobody bought the vita, 2.Nobody buys those games on the vita.

It was going to be another Uncharted game but naughty dog was worried about franchise burnout with so many games coming out so close together, so they nixed it. We spent like a whole year dicking around with different ideas and pitches after that before I left the studio. We started and threw away so many demos during that year.

Sony really wanted another Uncharted from us and tried to convince Naughty Dog to let us do it. They wanted more content for Vita.
And we did make an infamous pitch at one point, too. I think that was the first pitch and demo we made after the uncharted project was canned. The infamous game would have been a vita title too.

I can't believe Sony gives ND that much pull. That's rare. I mean would Activation let Infinity Ward stop Treyarch from making a Call of Duty.

So no Syphon Filter for PS4? :(

Well, I hope Naughty Dog will take on this IP after Uncharted 4. A 3rd person game with spy setting made by ND would be very cool :)

Also what is the deal with this comment:

Hard to say if you should be excited. There’s a group of super talented guys there, and pretty much every project has been chaos till the last 6 mo when they usually work super hard to pull it together.
But there’s a lot of burnout right now. Lots of talent has left over the last year'

Way to diminish and scorn your own former team!

This. Throwing them under the bus like that. Shameful.

No joke or exaggeration: I would own a vita if it had a new infamous on it. I would pay over list price.

Kinect Sports Rivals sold like 5 copies worldwide.

It is really sad to see all these cancelled pitches. It looks like Bend really loved the Vita but was forced to switch to PS4 to basically survive or get shut down.

One of the problems with Sony WWS is that Bend is like their only studio left with real portable experience. BigBig was the other one but got shut down. Studio Japan is just doing collaborations now for portables.

You'd think that Sony would have more of a say as to what Uncharted game gets made or not over Naughty Dog. Oh well.
That's good though, it means Naughty Dog has creative control instead of Sony just letting any studio take over an original studio's IP.

Bend needs to come up with something of their own instead of riding on the coattails of other studios.

It says that Sony was pushing for Uncharted on Vita but ND turned it down(crazy that they have that much pull). With the other games, you're assuming they were good ideas. I'd like to know more about the canceled projects and the reason they were turned down before I say they should have financed them.

How hard is it for them to make a compelling pitch? Sony seems to green light anything these days. Do they suck that much at pitching original ideas?

Let then come up with something original instead of aping other studios' IPs.

Write your own songs and stop being a cover band, Sony Bend.

It appears she deleted the comments. Sony ninjas must have gotten to her.

Echoing regret for no Infamous Vita. Would have been a hell of a sendoff for Western support.

I'm more worried about the studio losing talent and cycling through pitches. As a previous poster said, this is probably the game that will determine whether or not they continue to do games. I hope it's good.

You're not going to get three games from a studio of 50 people in 2-2.5 years.

I'm just upset seeing all those Vita games never seeing the light of day.
Infamous Vita did seem to be real then...though seemingly didn't get far, if at all.

How sad, while I love my Vita, I'm hesistant supporting Sony for their next portable if they so choose, (Which would be cool as it would seemingly have a 1088p screen if the res is doubled again like it has been since PSP). If they're just gonna drop all the support when its not going well (Unlike the PS3 where they pushed for years and eventually got it to a great spot), then thats just poor support, and while there are gems on it, I just feel massively sad comparing it (in my head) to the console I know it could be and deserves
to be.

I know it's not what people want to hear, but Sony is still pushing Vita hard, just not in the way some people want. Sony is the reason so many games (indies) are getting ported to Vita, and Sony is a big part of the reason more games are getting localized for the Vita. Why? Because indies and localizations sell well on Vita.

Yes, we're not getting AAA games. Why? Because established franchises like KZ:Mercs (great game! beautiful!) don't sell, and new critical darling IPs don't sell (Gravity Rush, Tearaway -- great games! beautiful!) and every other AAA or close to triple AAA game has not sold through well.

It all makes perfect sense.

In addition to the indies and localizations, Sony is also pushing remote play and trying to get any game that could be ps4/vita to be ps4/vita and not just ps4. This is all called support, even if they don't burn money making us AAA games we ask for but don't buy.

I don't know what to think. I don't like how they kept scrapping ideas for a new ip and i don't like how Sony kept pushing for UC. There's nothing positive here.

Scrapping ideas is commonplace. And it sounds like Sony -didn't- keep pushing for UC... they backed down when ND asked them to... where's the issue with that?

Ah, so Sony Bend is Sony's Rare in a way; pitching great ideas left and right but keep being pushed down for 'reasons'. Hell, its even worse for Bend, as at least Rare's Kinect stuff sold well; all of Sony Bend's projects despite being great games don't sell that well :(.

There is no way to know they were 'great ideas'. Plenty of games get scrapped once they hit prototype stage because while something may sound fun on paper, it may not be fun in practice. Add in technical hurdles, market changes, genre burnout, and everything else... and it's not surprising, really. It's shame, though.

yea thats exactly what I said in the UE4 Sony Bend thread. This studio was REALLY talented back when Dark Mirror and logan's shadow came out. Man those games were really good and highly unappreciated
