New The Witcher 3 Gameplay

Don't see why people are overly obsessed with graphics. I'm more interested with how they're going concluded the ending regarding Geralt and Ciri.

Obsession with graphics over everything else has been an issue in this industry for a long time.
Every little flaw gets posted in pics and gifs over and over until it's completely blown out of proportion and overshadows everything else.
Nobody appreciates the amount of work that goes into something of this scale anymore. It's depressing.
We should demand quality and call out BS when we see it but this shit is getting ridiculous.
With development costs skyrocketing and gamers getting harder and harder to impress I have to wonder if in a few years a game of this magnitude will still be viable for a studio like CDPR.
They're creating one of the biggest and most ambitious worlds ever while delivering visuals on par with the best and some people still aren't happy. It's insane.

Nah. Much of the downgrade talk with Dark Souls 2, AC Unity and whatnot died down substantially once people were playing the games.

And if there was a downgrade, and there might have been(we haven't seen the game with all the bells and whistles yet, though), it certainly is not 'drastic'.

What people complained about with AC Unity were the graphical glitches and poor performance. At its best, from what I hear, it still 'looked' like what was shown earlier... just with really poor performance. Even with that, people were still talking about it for months. Ubisoft found itself on 'fail of the year' lists thanks to this game and watch_dogs.

I don't think many people were really expecting heaven from Dark Souls 2 so I don't see you point.

Look, if the final game can look like these I will not complain. In any case the game still looks really good and like it will be a huge amount of fun to play. Just saying that devs should match what put out pre-release. Note that I am not saying they won't match it, just that if they don't it will be a disappointment.

Amazing...The 3GB footage.

Yes..This is the game any RPG fan has been waiting for.
Probably the best world we've ever seen in a game.

Where are those "leakers" that said CDPR was hyping a game that doesn't exist ?

I meant impressive architecture, Wonders, if you like. Or original landscapes. The setting seems very realistic and "Switzerland" looking. More GOT than LOTR apparently. But even GOT has the Wall and King's Landing.
I love the part on top of the mountain and by the cliff over the sea.

I don't think so. Of course you will have towers, castles, ruins and small towns. Most of the impressive architecture are remnants of elven culture, such as the bathhouse in The Witcher 2. You could say Novigrad is like King's Landing, it's a huge port city based on medieval Amsterdam. But all in all The Witcher is low fantasy when it comes down to locales.

The biggest castle in the witcher universe should be in the capital of the nilfgaardian empire, which isn't featured in the game. So in GOT terms, this game takes place only in the North. There are some tall old ruins that are featured on previous trailers.

This game looks like what Elder Scrolls could be. Massive open world, but with a story and character I could give a shit about. I also like the style and monsters more from this than ES series, but that's more of a personal preference.

Please don't disappoint gameplay wise.

Well, truth be told, the game was delayed twice, with the second (substantial) delay happening after they said that it would absolutely not be delayed again.
So it's not hard to believe that when those people were at CDPR things weren't ideal and obviously the game wasn't ready to be shipped so that much is true.
Now that they've had several more months to work on it the game should be in a very different state.

This universe is more grounded than LotR. There's nothing like those statues for example, no.

Speaking of another downgrade: They seem to have toned down the Dutch(?) accents of the Niflgaardians quite a bit compared to The Witcher 2. Rather disappointed by this, because I quite liked this in the latter, especially the performance by whoever voiced the Niflgaardian ambassador, Shilard Fitz-Oesterlen (although he was a total bastard).

The graphics are great and all but the music is god tier. Love how subtle and beautiful it was when geralt was roaming around in the village.

It's all abut expectations. They showed some impressive stuff earlier and they should either match it, or not show it at all in the first place. I hope they match it. If they don't it will be a disappointment on that specific point. The game still has my attention more than any other and this video they showed today was great (best pure gameplay they have shown so far).

Still, if the visuals don't match what have shown I will be disappointed in that, just like I would be disappointed if the music didn't match or the art direction. It won't ruin the game but it will a niggle.

Watching the 3GB video. Surprise, surprise, in that video the ground and plants look more defined, sharper, and less muddy.
Of course there is LoD... but it's an open world, it's no surprise.

And btw, the animations looks good to me, I don't know why some people were complaining at first. I played AC Unity and I don't see them better than the animations here.

I love the thread!

What can I say? Our artists would slap anyone trying to mess with their pretty work;)

I just want you guys to know that in terms of art direction this series has my favorite art direction of any WRPG (along with the Souls games if they can be considered WRPGs.)
As a European myself i love how you maintained a unique mix of Eastern and Western European "feel" in the art of these games.I'd love to buy an art book of TW3 one day. :)

I can't believe they close that 15 minutes of gameplay with a trailer that looks so much better than the footage. I'd be happy with vegetation on that level at least. The 3gb vid only really highlights the dramatic change. But at least it doesn't look like a smudgy mess anymore.

It made a growl, then the demo player instantly veered off into another direction.

Yeah he just turned his back and walked away after clerly seeing it, that's the part that made me laugh.

Kinda like that part in Pete's TEW demo playthrough when the Trauma is passing by and he just went back and closed the door.

I like the world, characters and storyline of The Witcher. Its gameplay, while being somehow diverse and fun on paper, it is badly executed and practically broken.

Just fix the damn hitboxes and make viable builds possible. Adjust some of the stupid enemy designs and mechanics (autoblocks, animation canceling, stupid tracking, too many damn active frames) and make rolling faster. Adding individual/unique pokes or special attacks with melee is a good start, and decrease the startup of fast pokes.

Enemies with hyper armor should lose their hyper armor after a certain amount of hits or heavy pokes.

As a side note, it would be nice to see a more organized save files/backups so that we can get all paths possible.

Just watched the 3gb raw footage. Looks a lot better without the compression. I think the most impressive looking segment is the part with the drakes flying around. The environments there looks really amazing.

How do you know they haven't addressed those issues for the third game? They revamped combat again for this one.

Damn this game looks like stunner. The Vistas are truly breathtaking. Sure you can see the pop in and what not but the game still has a couple of months before release and honestly I probably won't notice that much when I'm playing. One thing that did stand out to me though was the horse's tail shadow when he was riding him across that snowy hill. The shadow looks like it's detached from the horses body lol. But like I said, they still got some to polish all that up and CDPR doesn't seem like the kind of dev to leave something like that in.

I've really got to get to playing the first and second Witcher games.

Happens briefly at the start.

And it happens here as well before the slope gets too steep which leads into a slide.
xqjqis.gif

Like I said earlier it seems to depend on how steep the slope is.

In the first gif he just slowed down from a sprint into the same jog animation that's in the second gif, doesn't look to be due to the elevation change as he's still in the slower jog animation even when the surface turns flat. Looks like the player simply eased down on the thumbstick control. There's also a jog to sprint transition in MGSV.

From that topdown view in the second gif I can't really tell much, if even any change though. But here you can see Geralt exhibits the same running animation even when the slope is pretty steep, he's basically in the same running animation halfway down the slope before it even turns into a slide.

So yeah, I'm not really seeing how Snake's animations are more stiff especially compared to these examples.

Witcher is High Fantasy. It's just gritty and grim, aka "dark fantasy."

Low Fantasy takes place on a much more realistic and contemporary Earth as we know it. Monsters and ghosts inhabiting much of the Earth and sorcery on the reg isn't realistic.

Sorry but almost nothing in The Witcher looks like Dark Fantasy to me. A good example of dark fantasy games would be the Souls games or Diablo.

Really excited for this, only have one nit-picky thing and that's the horse sounds while riding. I'm aware that I'm hyper sensitive to this considering I grew up raising/owning/riding horses, but holy shit audio engineer use a few different sound loops. The horse running on the snow in the beginning and it sounding like it was on brick/stone road was like nails on a chalkboard.

I told you it was nit-picky.

Dreadful atmosphere and regular horror elements.

It's just that Dark Souls is a much stronger case of Dark Fantasy than The Witcher. Or not, depending on your interpretation.

"Charles L. Grant is often cited as having coined the term "dark fantasy". Grant defined his brand of dark fantasy as "a type of horror story in which humanity is threatened by forces beyond human understanding".[3] He often used dark fantasy as an alternative to horror, as horror was increasingly associated with more visceral works."

That's pretty much the definition of the Wild Hunt as well as the situation with monsters prowling the Earth.

People worry too much. Animations aren't great, we can't expect dragon dogma for every open world game :(

Downgrades will be fixed for 2.0 patch on pc in 2 years anyways.

I'm downloading the video so cant watch yet. How's the combat looks like? More refined than W2?
They didn't show much combat. But from all the hands on previews it is more refined than W2. But it's still W2's combat, just tweaked. So no major revamp if you were hoping for one.

The Conjuction of Spheres, definitely. I agree The Witcher is Dark fantasy. I lean towards it not being high fantasy strictly because the setting is more realistic medieval, physical laws that abide by the natural world; however it just so happens magic is a major thing, monsters roam the earth, and non-human races exist. The Witcher bestiary is based off folklore, as well. This is different than the Souls series.

Altho due to the scientific nature behind Geralt and the Wild Hunt, and the prevailing cynicism concerning any institution of power, I would vouch that the Witcher could be considered more-so Fantasy-punk, if that's even a genre.
