Super Smash Bros. for Wii U: new update available, 15 additional 8-player stages

I'm getting visions of the SSB 3DS tournaments I saw in Japan where a spectator player 3 (with capture card) would be Jigglypuff and shield themselves to death (I think they stopped doing this after finding it affected Lucario's Aura for no reason).

I find this hilarious. Aura needs a small nerf anyway.

Admittedly WiFi, but I really don't want to fork out the cash for one of those Lan adapters to maybe get a better connection in Smash.

It's crazy, we have 152mb/s internet (around 18ms ping) and yeah, it's unplayable on that connection.... The Wii U isn't far from the router either.
Ah well.

For a game like Smash, I don't think it's crazy since LAN is full duplex. (It's not just about transfer speed, it's about the ability to receive and send simultaneously.)

That's kinda sad, I loved how Jigglypuff's shield death was like the countdown and starting bell of a match

This, it's disgusting how Classic mode (the main of the serie) went in a downward spiral, it's surprisingly bad in Smash 4, lack of stages, lack of classic break the target, lack of interesting one-on-one battles, no metal mini bosess *sigh*. All Star mode went right because they didn't touch it.

So now on, single player modes will be only side modes, with multiplayer stuff being the focus...

I really don't see the appeal of 8 Smash, it's a mess where you can't even play decently, it's totally unbalanced for projectile based attacks, and projectile based characters don't stand a chance.

actually, there are metal mini bosses. They'll sometimes challenge you when you're about to start a match with another fighter. They'll come in, kick them out and you'll fight a metal version of a character :)

Ah, the intruder alert?
Maybe I'm an old man, but I did grow with structurated fights, like fight 1-6 battles with normal fighters, mini boss battle just before the final boss, and final boss, Classic in Smash mode is so random to my taste.

Why not just buy a LAN adapter then? They're like, 10 bucks on Amazon.

Yea I'm not giving them money for fucking up...

Outside of Smash it's not an issue since none of the other Wii U games I'm interested in have online. I'll just play only when I have friends over.

Yooooooo this is great me and my group of friends usually got tired of playing the same stages in 8-player Smash after awhile because of the small selection

They're clearly still working on the game. While i'm not EXPECTING a hazard toggle, it's not impossible for them to implement it.

There's clearly a variable in there that turns it on/off in the code, since no-hazard mode shows for new challengers. The tricky thing is nobody likes to switch between more than two "modes" with a single button -- guess they could make Z or some other button the input for no hazard mode.

I've found another fix. (Unless mine was glitched before) Notifications now only sparkles on the main menu when there is a new notification. I asked them to fix this in a CN survey, so thanks Nintendo!

I know people hate 8-player Smash, but its the only mode I've been playing and its been fun playing it in our office. More stages means less boring stages since we've been playing on the sames ones over and over again. People are gonna love this tomorrow once I update it.

It's an update that unlocked stages that were already in the game for one of their game modes. It's not that exciting.

Crap post. For someone that plays 4-8 player mode almost exclusively, this is fantastic news. I had no idea Nintendo was planning on patching stuff like this in so this is an incredibly welcome surprise.

People hate 8-player Smash?

News to me.

The biggest issue was lack of stages. That's been addressed.

This update gives me hope that Nintendo is going to be adding in more features and improving on things already present in future patches.

Well, they are adding the online tournament system and player rooms, as well as the Miiverse stage. Development must be fairly active besides just working on Mewtwo.

For people who kept asking about characters nerf/buff,

There are no changes in characters because if they did then our replay wouldn't work anymore.

That list of changes to the 8-player variants of stages just pisses me off because those should be normal options in every mode.

Pyrosphere without Ridley would be heavenly, but I can't stand eight player and I'm not killing off six people at the beginning of a match or whatever just to get to it.

Yeah, I just didn't think they'd work on things that hadn't been mentioned.
If they're actively listening to people about their issues with the game and they fix and add some things, then it'd be great.
Hoping we can get some more options to Stage Builder and perhaps a stage hazard toggle.

It's too chaotic IMO. I don't hate that it exists, but I do hate how it ruined classic mode.

Classic mode is a bad joke in Smash 4. I still wonder how could so little effort have been put in it. Say what you what, classic/arcade/whatever you call it, single player mode should still be a great focus in the making of any fighting game. Not that it should be something that complicated, Sakurai had already nailed it in Melee. In Smash 4, it's just not fun at all, however that's possible, that's it.

Do agree Stage Builder needs options and objects. One of my number 1 requests.

I'm glad that they're adding on to 8-player Smash, I hope that eventually we can play on every stage with 8 players!

I also hope that eventually they add a hazard toggle, since there's obviously one already coded. I wanna use Wily Castle as a counterpick, dammit!

Wow I didn't know this, his Aura increases just from other characters dying? His aura scares me lol

But it becomes classic mode after 4 people die. I like how it tests your ability to survive all flavors of Smash--chaotic, to less chaotic, to 1 v. 1. To each their own though.

Or make it one of the settings, like an item menu or random stage toggle. Just check ahead of time which stages you want hazards for and which you don't.

Good update. More stage availability for 8 player smash is definitely welcome.

Another positive is that for those who want to develop the 3v3 or 4v4 metagame can now use these stages instead of just big battlefield.

Good update.

They didnt fuck up the online, please know what your talking about.

Or just forward smash with anyone who isn't pac-man/sheik/villager in a large crowd and kill all 7 of them in one hit like any level of classic lower than 6.

The AI in 8 player Smash in Classic is just pathetic. Most of the time they just stand there. The hardest fights are the 1:1's because the AI scales accordingly and is actually challenging.

Boxing Ring isn't part of this update? No one cares if the cardboard audience gets removed to be compatible.

Otherwise, excellent stealth update. Especially Pyrosphere sans Ridley.

Hope this is a sign of even more support in the future.

Speaking of Ridley, I wonder why they never included a boss battle mode this time around. There are a bunch of assist trophies that can be defeated now, so they could even be thrown in as bosses. Ah well.
