Ready at Dawn responds to "concern" over The Order: 1886 campaign length

From glancing at the impressions thread and seeing phrases like "lost potential", "no buildup", "missed opportunity", "underutilized", "leaves a lot on the table", etc... the length sounds like more of an issue than some want to believe.

What it comes down to is whether it is fulfilling or not. That will be how I judge the value of the game.

You can't talk sense in this place. There is always an aspect of a game that a vocal gafer will say the game sucks because of. The hard part is figuring out how to filter out the real concerns from the hyperbolic ones.

It'll be interesting to see some Twitch reactions on Friday for people who bought it digitally not knowing its on the short side. Could be quite comical.

I pre-ordered digitally, but thankfully am well aware of what I am getting. I am going in hoping that it ends up being a Heavenly Sword type of deal. That game was short as hell and I had people warning me not to get it, but it still ended up being an amazing experience. I loved that game.

What does this have to do with the system the game is coming out for at all? The game was originally divisive because of RAD's self-purported "filmic" vision for the game that probably didn't appeal to everyone (nor should it have to), and now it's a matter of game length--a valid concern for people spending sixty dollars on a product that has shown to be on the short side in some playthroughs. Some of the games have been criticized for legitimate reasons (along with the slew of trolling that comes along with any highly marketed or popular game). This tribalistic mentality is getting ridiculous.

You think The Order has had what you would consider the normal level of criticism? Really? Or are you not fully understanding what I mean?

The Quantum Break Review Thread should be Interesting™

If it's only 6 hours, Sony fans will crucify it. It will be wrong to, but this barrage of nonsense we've seen for The Order will backfire badly on those that participated.

Turning this into a console war now?

This is a straight up lie. Quality of experience aside, I just watched the thing beginning to end in 5 and a half hours, dude playing died plenty and spent his time too.

If this is true, I gotta hold off until it is cheaper. I can't justify $65 for 5 hours of gameplay. I was expect more like 8-12. Now, is it a bit arbitrary that 8 hours would be acceptable but 5 is not? Sure, I admit it is. But that's where I'm at anyway....

The sooner people remember that video gaming is a hobby and being so heavily emotionally invested in one company is unhealthy the better.

Who gives a shit if people are concerned or trolling The Order? Is it going to impact how much you or other people enjoy the game?

I've posted some pretty childish shit in my time here on GAF but the immaturity of the gaming community is still pretty shocking.

Yep, I agree. That's what I'm saying.

They could at least keep the shit stocked, then. I got The Last of Us from redbox day one. Now, this shit is getting Evolve on the 26th. C'mon, son.

At least some of you folks have access to current gen stuff. My area is still strictly last gen only, on top of the crap stock.

You watched the whole game on youtube, why do you even care?

I watched the first chapter and the guy seemed to be going very fast.

This game is lacking that Multiplayer mode. I know every game does not have to be Multiplayer. Such as Shadow of the Collosus, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy and etc. However this game has too many similarities to other third person shooters like Gears of War. If this game had a Multiplayer it would have gotten way more attention. What Sony should have done was to farm out the Multiplayer to another team, such as the Starhawk team, Santa Monica, or even a 3rd party. I imagine if this game had a quality Multiplayer mode with atleast 8 maps it wouldn't have as much hate.

Most games today don't have such strange design choices. No MP, unconventional aspect ratio, QTEs, long cinematics, and short play time all seem like perfectly reasonable things to criticize.

See? Anyone can cherry pick comments.

I'm sorry but the comparison to MW is just plain stupid.

Yes, COD has very short single player campaign but you also get a meaty multiplayer component, Spec Ops missions for solo play and usually a co-op element as well.

The Order has none of that.

It's a bad comparison if you are talking about modern warfare With great mp and decent sp.
If you compare to the 2 torturous hours I spent trying to play cod aw, then I'll pay anything for the order lol

Again, I'm not sure why you're not understanding what I'm saying. Reality is reality and the reality is it will happen. Can I ask, do you go to other sites as well as GAF? I can tell you for certain there's not a single Sony fan on N4Gs that isn't aware of a ridiculous negative biased towards Sony exclusives.

What. I don't think YOU even understand what you're saying at this point.

I go on /r/ps4 a lot and 4chan sometimes.

You really aren't doing yourself a favor by pointing to N4G.

It was their strategy from the start, to put everything into a single-player campaign to establish their franchise. Whether or not they were successful I don't know, but it was a good strategy, much better than doing something in a size they can't handle.

If there is a next game, they won't be starting from zero, so it will probably have much more content.

It would be great if this game was trying something different like a 60$ collector edition and a a 40$ digital edition, but publishers don't like risks.

What's the ridiculous negative bias against Bloodborne then?

Seems like everyone's pretty excited for that video game coming out in March of 2015.

kind of wierd responding to length vs story comments as you cant give spoilers :). I havent played the game but ive seen that whole play through (most of it rather) If some of you are that concerned about the length but dont care much about spoilers just go watch the videos and couple that with the impressions posted about gameplay and make up your own minds.

Online co-op campaign would have been cool.

Games like Vanquish, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Bayonetta, God of War and Resident Evil 2 can all be finished in 5-10 hours. However, they all had good-to-great replay value, nice extras, etc. Thus, there wasn't much griping about their launch prices.

OTOH...The Order: 1886 is a story-focused game. Even if it turns out to be a good game (and I am highly skeptical of that)...it appears to be a one-and-done type of game. I have a feeling that this game is going to hit bargain bin prices pretty quick.

i dont know of any neg sony bias or pro sony bias. but given the stature demon souls and dark souls have here. bloodborne could come out on atari and gaf would still love it.

I just hope there arent a wide abundance of human enemies to fight. Gimme more crazy lycan fights.

EDIT: I dont think there will be any complaints about Bloodborne aside from people getting wrecked by bosses or that "one environment".

Good thing this thread isn't about how visceral or beautiful the game is, or you might have a point.

I understand what you are saying. All the big meanies are picking on poor little Sony's games out of spite and its soooo unfair.

Grow up man. I'm the proud owner of a PS4 and I'm not totally sold on this either. I'm prepared to wait and see, but I'm also not going to cry "fanboy!" whenever someone criticises it. That's their prerogative. Same as its yours to be as excited as you like.

This game was always going to be divisive. The devs said themselves that they prioritised making it a cinematic experience over gameplay. MGS gets loads of shit for being cut-scene heavy too. And Ryse got shot for being short. The Order is a perfect storm of attributes that wind some people up. Just be thankful it doesn't have micro-transactions! GAF really would melt then.

Is this game getting unjustly ripped apart because it's an exclusive or is it getting justifiably ripped apart because it's not a good game? That is the question!

I don't get your point. At all. It's similar to Gears? So what, Playstation never had gears so that only affects consumers who played gears on Xbox and are sick of it. Which is likely not many. Plus the last gears was when? And the last good gears was when?
What other games out for Ps4 does this game compete with?

I feel for RAD for putting in these kind of situations before the game is even released. I just hope this game gets good reviews (8-9) so we will get more games from this talented studio. Technically they have accomplished something that deserves to be called 'next gen'. And from the impressions on GAF and internets, they game is not half bad either. They don't need to be treated this way.

Hangin there RAD.

I seriously believe that there are persons who don't even have a PS4 or are even interested in this game that are keen on propagating any news that will be perceived as negative for this game. It's like par for the course for Sony exclusives really, it almost seems like some propaganda machine is at play.

I honestly cannot fucking take this anymore. Stop saying this just stop it. Please. I'm honestly begging you to open your eyes for 5 seconds just 5 seconds and look at the facts.

Ryse got massacred on these very forums for being a short QTE pos for months. Months! The most criticized gamed on this forum are multi plats. Watch Dogs and Destiny have got to be the biggest failures and most criticized in a long time and they are not PS4 exclusives.

Just stop with fanboyism for 5 seconds. This bothers me so much.

And yes I have a PS4 if it helps you sleep at night.

I just don't understand why sony keeps funding cininimatic movie games. Naughty dog should be the only one doing these for them. Rad should have made a hack and slash or plat former.

I only play SP so gameplay length is an important factor for me, any game that can't justify it's price is picked up much later from the bargain bin.

TLOU really showed up a lot of shorter games and devs need to realise that 5h is not a benchmark to aim for.

Agreed. I know it's arbitrary and there is no reason a 5 hour campaign can't be amazing (or hell, 3 or 4 even), but to me that short of a campaign is not enough unless it comes with a good multiplayer (not tacked on). That doesn't mean I want multiplayer modes added to games where they don't belong, just that there is a certain value that has to be achieved for me to drop $60 on a game.

8 hours or more should really be the standard. Last of Us, Tomb Raider, and Bioshock Infinite were all about that long or longer and were well worth the money to me.

The Order might be a very very excellent 5 hours. If that is the case, I'll be happy to pick it up for the $30 it is worth to me as a shorter experience.
