Bloodborne: Impressions After 40 Hours (EDGE)

i don't mind a much smaller weapon count than what was in Dark Souls 2 or even the first Dark Souls, i felt there was a bit too much to be honest. didn't have the time to master them all :p

Demon's Souls did it right IMO, it had just enough different weapons and spells that you could really master them all. and with a smaller weapon count you could come up with strategies against pretty much any weapon you saw other players using, because they were all familiar.. but when i play PvP in Dark Souls 2 i never recognize any of the weapons (not to mention all the weird spells) anyone is using so i lose by default.

Mfw when people would rather have 20 re skinned weapons instead of a few unique ones.

They've already shown 7 distinct weapons in the promo footage. There's probably way more. Did you consider that maybe these guys didn't find much because the weapons are actually hidden this time around? Or does every weapon need to be lying on a corpse ten feet from where you start the game?

I did consider, but I don't know anyone else who played 40 hours of the game and game their impressions.

I can't remember exactly how many weapons became completely irrelevant in previous souls games after like 2 hours. Needless to say, I'm not too concerned about the lack of weapons. I can guarantee there's a good amount more than 6 though.

Fuck me...those cloth physics..I was one of the people who pointed out the 6 weapons things. Just feel that I should point out that it doesn't lesson my hype at all.

6 Weapons makes no sense. We've seen more than that from previews

Double Blades
Hammer/sword
Saw
Staff/whip
Axe/longaxe
Gun/rapier
Scythe/sword

That's 7 we know of. Unless that's EVERYTHING.

Like I even need another weapon lol.

The most different must be the hammer tho. Shortsword to mega hammer lol. Wonder how that transformation will look during a combo.

This this this.

I never really got into Demons Souls, loved Dark Souls but wished it was much more responsive, and am literally gagging for bloodborne.

Dude exactly! That combat looks so real and weighted. This game has a ton of soul (no pun intended) and looks like a responsive dream. Being at the under two week mark for release is agonizing, especially because I'm in between jobs at the moment and now would've been the perfect time to dive deep into it.

Let's ask the right questions.

Does it have proper AF ?

Can you make pretty faces ?

IMO -- You can make really pretty faces in both dark souls games. So I would be surprised if it weren't possible in Bloodborne.

Here are some of my dark souls 1 characters:

40 hours isn't much time for a Souls' game, especially coming in cold. Who knows how much stuff (weapons/armour) is in NG+, which is a tradition that I can't imagine them abandoning

I'd also suspect that a lot of loot will be attached to the Chalice Dungeon system, after all, if that doesn't give out special items that can't be found elsewhere it'd be a very large opportunity to overlook - and Miyazaki doesn't seem the sort to me to skip on that!

It strikes me more and more that Bloodborne is everything a modern Castlevania should've been.

yup

also Nightmare creatures

To be clear he never finished it in 40 hours

Not to mention that with those 7 weapons, we're getting 13 unique movesets (assuming the gun form of the gunblade can only fire normally).

This: I wonder in what way do they feel this game is less replayable than the preceding Souls titles? Perhaps there is no New Game+?

I think he's just saying that the second playthrough won't be as surprising as the first one in terms of enemy placements for example.

Im ok with six weapons found in forty hours, I don't think I used more than that in DS.
Hopefully that means a much better inventory (not as cluttered as in DS)

I've got so many I dont know what to do with them anymore. But I think its gonna be
"and so the nightly hunt begins"

please do! it's the best OT title
Krusenstern, post below, is right though :p

Only found 6 or so weapons and 6 or so guns in 40 hours
This sounds super concerning. I'm someone who loves the sheer variety of weapons and playstyles the other souls games offered, combat is basically half the reason I like this series. It was also great how almost every weapon was viable in one way or another, so it wasn't just quantity. but quality as well. I hope they just missed quite a few weapons.

This doesn't really make any sense in context of the series. Demon's souls and dark souls 1 didn't add any new enemies based on playthrough, everything was just made more difficult.

Kind of disappointed they only found 6 weapons, but not gonna go insane cause of it. Less than 2 weeks to go!!!

I would bet money that once the game is out "lack of things to find" is not a real complaint. I think one press member (who generally aren't known for being amazing gamers) playing the game for 40 hours reporting his findings doesn't necessarily mean jack. 40 hours is also just a scratch on the surface for the first play through of a souls game for most people. I really would not worry about this.

That's probably for the best; the ones about exclusivity are funny but unnecessarily antagonistic.

Miyazaki's Brutal Riposte is good too.

Come on man. . .

Also, people seem to blithely dismiss the potential of Bloodgems to alter weapon play styles.

This is how I feel as well.
