I believe they outsourced their character modeling to a company that did some work for Ryse (airship images). That should bode well, epecially if it actually gets a PC release. Even if the game sucks, we should be in for some dope ass screenshots.

Hair is the one thing that gets sacrificed a lot in game visuals and it can be distracting.

They probably cut some corners on the hair because the models are going to have helmets on 99.9% of the time. But, yeah... It looks like someone took a pencil to the dude's head.

Without the license it'll be destroyed in sales. The hardcore football fans would love another game to give competition to Madden, but the average fan wants to play as the Seahawks and do runs with Lynch, they want to play as the Patriots and throw as Brady etc.

One way to circumvent it would be deep customization options. Have a variety of generic team names be given audio cues (Hawks, Bears, Eagles), allow for jersey customization and team colors, maybe even a custom logo creator. It's still not a solution, but if I can make a team called the Seattle Hawks, give them blue, neon green, white jerseys, create players named Wilson, Lynch, etc. And try my best at recreating their logo, I could have fun doing it for every team, no matter how time consuming. Obviously communities would have detailed information on roster changes, how to create accurate logos, colors. But I'm sure something like that would draw the ire of EA, possibly lead to litigation.

As long as they release this one game, I couldn't care less if people buy it or not. If the gameplay holds up, this would sate me for the entire generation...

If the speculation is true and Microsoft is the publisher (Joe Montana tweeted that he was at their HQ the other day), then I feel like that might keep them safe from litigation if they make a fully customizable game. Microsoft has a $400 million marketing deal with the NFL and the Xbox One is the "official console" of the league.

If this was coming out on the PS4, I'd definitely be interest.

I'm not going to get an Xbox One just for a football game, even though Montana is my all-time favorite player.

It's not really well-suited to say that it will fail if it does not have the NFL license, because that comparison to Madden is already something this won't accomplish first time out.

What's most critical is that this title provides the foundation for a good football game. All other things are supplementary.

Has the "no NFL license" thing been made official? Or are we just speculating?

Really nothing has been made official yet. We just know a game is happening. The common assumption is that EA still has exclusive rights to the license so this game won't have it. Everything is on the hush though so maybe something has changed.

I've said this forever, not sure if JM16 is going to be the game to test the waters or not.

Just build a great football game, then let users customize EVERYTHING. Jerseys, player names, stats, team names, etc. Stadiums don't need to be accurate, that's a concession you can make. Same with shit like coaches, nobody really cares overall.

But the main thing is put a logo editor the same as Forza's in there where you're only given geometric shapes and patterns and are allowed to manipulate them onto layers. Watch as every single logo is created by the community. You ever see the stuff you can make with even something as basic as Forza 2's editor with 40 layers? People make anime characters and shit that are dead-on, it's amazing.

I know Fire Pro Wrestling tried this tactic back in the Dreamcast days, but I feel like they got into legal hot water with it (but could be wrong). The NFL has the firepower to stop something like this but I don't know if there's a precedent for it or not.

I think the game might sell at a rate similar to hotcakes if it is decent and gets a PC release. The PC market is woefully underserved when it comes to big budget American football games (madden 2008 was the last one. THAT WAS RELEASED 8 YEARS AGO). They'll have that market all to themselves. They've teased oculus support and, if the graphics are legitimately impressive, this could turn into a must-own for a lot of PC gamers. Mods should take care of the lack of licensing.

That post was probably a complete troll job but it is a bit eerie how on the nose its been so far. They're teasing like crazy. Hell, they won't even confirm what platforms the game is coming to. Also, Montana recently tweeted that he was at Microsoft HQ which fuels the Xbone/PC speculation.

If it ends up being that MS are publishing and its XB1/PC with cross-play then I'm inclined to believe its true because otherwise that is one hell of a guess along with other details.

What I see in that post especially the stuff about incubation and new IP sounds on point as well given we know at least 3 of Microsoft's internal studios have incubation teams (Lionhead, Rare and Team Dakota) two of which are new and they have at least 2 AAA new IPs coming that are announced anyway (QB/SB). Microsoft have also had two people (Klobb and Greenberg) say they have a couple of unannounced games coming out post-SoD pre-holiday which would fit into the timeline of that post too.

Now, I'm not saying it is real and happening like that, but the signs are there to indicate that it doesn't seem completely off point so far. Aaron Greenberg started following Joe Montana on twitter as well after that tweet about being at MS HQ, if that adds a little more weight to it :p

If its real, I would expect a leak pre-E3 personally.

More speculation and nothing but I'm bored so:

https://twitter.com/MarkRein/status/573310906337128448

Mark Rein is VP of Epic Games. This tweet, and the infamous "leak", were posted a day apart during GDC. The leak was posted first. If anything, it gives fuel to the "people saw it and it was wow" part.

Also, I think this is the first actual real person, that's not working on the game, who has said they've seen it. Damon Grow (the only guy working on the game who talks about it) confirmed yesterday that Mark was talking about Montana.

Just came to post that NFL2k15 is closer to watching a real telecast than any Madden before or after it.

EA fucking sucks ballsack.

Even with it it wont sell. People acting like this is a huge deal for ms are tripping. Nfl 2k launched at 29.99 was better then madden and sold a fraction...this,will be niche at best.

Lots of people are pretty sick of Madden though. Right type of game might get some traction. I know personally, I couldn't care less about the actual players and teams as long as the gameplay was there. If anything, fake rosters make franchise modes more fun (imo).

With the Xbox and NFL partnership, it would just make sense to produce a top tier NFL licensed game with even more integration with the app and system. I could totally see this happening.

If this is MS published or XB exclusive, wouldn't it make more sense if this was College Football? I know the NCAA rights are shit now after the likeness ruling, but I thought there was wiggle room if deals were signed directly with the conferences or something.

I think there's enough room in the American market for Madden and ONE first party football title (I'd like to think more than 2 could survive). If the rumor is true (specifically the MS publishing, NFL license and it looks amazing parts), I doubt it would struggle to compete at all.

With the nearly $half-billion marketing deal between MS and the NFL, everyone and their dogs will know about this game. It won't hurt for exposure at all. If it releases on PC, it'd have that market all to itself.

It still seems like it could be problematic given their relationship with EA. Seems like an odd decision to invest heavily in a football game but I understand the reasoning. The Show pulls some fence-sitters to PS4. Being the only console with 2 NFL games could help sway some over to their side. If I didn't have all 3, it would've worked on me for sure.

True story! If the bones of the game are good it will sell enough to make a difference. 10% market share is around 500,000 and that's a very doable number for a new football game. Sim guys play 7-10 season in a 12 month period on madden which by the half way point you have a team full of cpu generated players. Names won't matter much if the game is great. We need 2 football games to be successful because competition will breed creativity and create growth.

Microsoft has that 400m dollar NFL deal, surely they can make something happen.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/04/20/amd-windows-10-releasing-this-july

Windows 10 is looking likely to release in July, that fits with the rumor that the game will release in July with Windows 10
Ya MS said last month Windows 10 was releasing in the summer, so that is lining up with the info dump release date, Joe Montana tweeted about being at MS HQ, Greenberg follows Joe after that tweet, Damon has been hinting like crazy...the stars are aligning

And anyone trying to downplay the sales this can reach are dillusional. You are crazy if you think that the people making this believe it will beat Madden out the gate. It won't, but it can be a serious contender in a couple years if this first one is extremely solid visually and gameplay wise.

Yeah and back in those times NBA Live outsold NBA 2K lol. Times have changed and 2K is a dominant force now. An NFL game with the 2K name on it and graphically superior thanks to Unreal engine would be much bigger now than you think.

A new football game being a success would greatly depend on whether or not it has the NFL license. If it does (and it's a good game), then yeah, it would get a lot of attention.

Madden has been the only NFL game for a decade now. There are many "mainstream" gamers that are tired of Madden and still bring up 2K. While I highly doubt it would overtake Madden, it would more than likely do well; Just needs to be an NFL game.

As someone in New Zealand who has zero interest in NFL, the 2k games were just good games period.

Dominant force in football, yeah no. Basketball has zero bearing on this. Times have not changed madden is a brand that has casual appeal.

I never brought up Gaf in my post so I'm not sure why you said that.

People would like to have another option just as long as it's a (good) NFL game. As I said before, it has been 10 years since there has been another NFL game. A new NFL game announcement would spread online (social media, sports sites, and mainstream game sites). 2K5 gets brought up on pretty much every online article involving Madden. I've seen many cases of people in stores talk about 2K5 before purchasing that year's Madden. I would honestly be very surprised if a new NFL console game announcement didn't get a solid amount of attention.

Damon Grow was in the SFL twitch chat today and mentioned a story-type mode in their game that he's really excited about. When asked to compare it to myPlayer, he said he thought theirs was better. Not much, of course, but it's another thing that can be added to the list of stuff that falls in line with "the Leak."

The Leak said:
"There are a few important modes. One is a story mode and it's pretty cool. Think NBA 2K My Player. That's what you're getting."
