Xenoblade Chronicles X looks like it has some unique textures in the game

well i didn't mean it looks like a ps2 game game exactly, it just has features that remind me pf the ps2 era, like the character models, the lighting being fo flat, with out doing any dynamic shadows, the 2d grass every where, posting gifs is not gonna change that, you can make almost any game look good by posting gifs, in certain angles where it looks good. when i watch videos pop up and ugly textures are every where, and the animation, and clipping just border line look like shit.
The ugly characters is true, but the lighting in this game is really good. And a lot of modern games still uses 2d grass. Apart from the characters and some bad textures this game looks amazing for a Wii U game, the scale is just incredible.

Was reading this thread, and those were my exact thought, except for for the N64 part, it looks more like a PS2 game to me. I can spot many of those embarrassing textures in the trailers.
Rejoice for our Lord hath fucking arrived!

Really? Who was that?

I really hate that we have to start this stupid comparison again.

I put it in quotes because it was lighthearted but one of the guys that works on that series was overly impressed with a past X trailer and mentioned in a fun fashion how much he was.

Yeah, the comparison is dumb.

Someone else might be able to find it, I probably won't be able to.

(I think I'm wrong and got the wrong Final Fantasy but I will check)

That's not the right game or is it???

I don't know how you can say the lighting is really good when its static, Objects don't cast shadows based on where the light source is, RDR and GTAV did this last gen and it's the main reason why i think they look so good, cause of the dynamic lighting.

Shadows aren't flat. Flat shadows, completely disconnected from the player character, are what we see in the current teaser for SO5, where the shadows are below the character and do not change when the character moves over them (or cast a shadow on the character). The lightning in this game is definitely not dynamic to the level of player sources.

He thinks it looks amazing. But "jealous" was not the word used. More like he praised it and said "healthy competition is good".

It's amazing how the developers working on these games can openly praise one another yet the fanbases still can't help but start a fucking war over everything.

I put it in quotes because it was lighthearted and not a direct quote.

I should have used a better word even if it was in quotes for a reason and my own choice.

I don't care about which game is better.

...but I don't WANT to have to buy a hard drive for my Wii U. That's why I buy retail.

Those data packs are HUGE within the context of a 32gb console.

It's like what happened between Treyarch and Eidos Montreal with the whole COD vs DX thing!

Time to clean out yo fridge son. Not an optimal solution, but it's better than no solution at all.

So just download the texture pack (3GB I think) and be happy? It wont be perfect, but almost there presumably.

Oh okay, sorry about that. But you know how things are here. It sometimes gets REALLY hard to tell who's being serious and who's not/

It's pretty easy, some look at it and it looks great to them instead of dissecting the technical dynamics of it all.

You're free to do the latter but the game looks beautiful to most.

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel. Yabuki turned off voice chat in Mario Kart races. True artists of their time.

You can use a USB stick, if you have a 32GB lying around.

Neither do I. I'm tired of the hardware bickering or how minute details in XBCX don't live up to Xenoblade 1. The game is coming out worldwide and that's enough for me.

Always found "it looks like an N64 game" and stuff like that to be pretty silly.
Usually comes from people that have no idea what they are saying.
Personally, I think X looks incredible for they type of game it is even if some of the visuals are a mixed bag like the faces.

There are definitely some pretty funk parts in this game, regardless of streaming issues. I was blown away that Nintendo bothered putting this shot in that story trailer:

I don't think the city area anywhere looks particularly good.

It's not a dealbreaker and I almost see it as a menu area.

Yeah looking through the first post again that's probably what I'm going to do. Assuming I get the game anyway, which I'm undecided about.

I really do hope this doesn't become a trend, though. One of the things love about the Wii U is that it's still a very simple console: no data installs, and relatively few day-one patches*. I can insert a game and just start playing.

*and those day one patches that do exist are pretty much always nonessential; I can start playing while the update downloads.

when you got games that LOOK like this last gen, i just can't understand what's impressive about X,we had huge open world games with tons of detail, and dynamic lighting, this game has to many huge flaws to be considered beautiful to me. keep in mind these games look pretty bad to compared to the new FF, SS, witcher 3 and batman.

If you didn't have an agenda, I'd discuss it seriously but it's just not worth it.

I guess the data packs didn't fit on the game disc, or they weren't ready by the time the game went gold. I'm assuming these data packs are the same as Day 1 patches?

Not really. They're entirely optional, even though Monolith Soft has strongly recommended getting at least the basic data pack since they announced it. You can play the game from beginning to end without them. Whatever patches they do for the game will be separate and will be downloaded automatically to the Wii U.

Didn't you just say using GIFs is dumb because they can make any game look really good?

EDIT:
Eh, this is nowhere. Why even respond

I see. It's interesting that they're optional, considering they seem to be made to greatly improve the game/experience. They should make it mandatory, imo

The difference between these and patches is that they are optional, and have probably been planned on being released long ahead of time, rather than fixing launch bugs. They are an equivalent to a simple disc install. They are done this way, because the disc doesn't have enough spare room to fit the install data in an installable format.

yes i did, my main point was to show off the lighting, and the way shadows react to light, if those games had static lighting i would consider them ugly, my second point is yes, gifs make a game look much better then it really is, and when you play X, 720p and jaggies, along with bad textures, and pop up will stick out like a sore thumb. anyway i'm out, no reason to go on any further, i explained clearly why i think this game is not impressive to me.

Its a lot easier to concentrate your system and storage mediums resources when its only 1/10th the size of X, stops to load in certain spots, 90% of the geometry is instanced, you strictly limit what the player can do so as not to overwhelm system via unexpected camera angles/positions, and you use the exact same texture tile over and over and over again so that when you get on a hill it looks like a checker board.

The game definitely has texture streaming, LOD, and pop-in issues, but that's the trade-off the developers chose when they wanted a large, seamless world.

I'd rather not be required to download that much data, especially when it wouldn't fit on my Wii U. Options are good.

What the absolute fuck are you talking about?

How much of the 32GB on a Wii U will go to system updates? Assuming I get one.

If it will have more than the 10.whatever GBs required then I won't have to bother with an external.

IIRC, you wind up with nearly 25GB available on a fresh 32GB Wii U. That's enough to download the game digitally in its entirety.

If you buy retail only, then I don't see how you'd have space issues even with 32GB.

As someone who buys retail whenever it's an option and will only have room for some, not all, of the packs: you'd be surprised at how quickly Club Nintendo rewards, indie games (which do not tend to be very efficient in their use of space), eShop exclusives, DLC, and the 8GB Metroid Prime Trilogy (not very practical to obtain in hard copy) pile up.

God, don't remind me of how shitty that looked. I'll try to cut my city time to a bare minimum in order avoid the constant eyesore.
