I have high hopes for this game, at least gameplay-wise. Tabata seems determined to make this a good game.

I suppose the XIV fiasco has made Square Enix a lot more receptive to fan feedback.

Oh really? I haven't kept up, you guys keep hiding in the demo thread. :p

Anything worth noting that they said or shown since the demo released? I played it when it first came out but moved on pretty quickly.
Not much news, since the release of the demo in March sorta 'took the place' of a FFXV Active Time Report. But yea, Tabata's been pretty great with communication about the game, if nothing else.

I hope they don't cling to how things were in the demo. A lot of stuff in there needs significant improvement to be a good playable action RPG.

Man I hope there's big changes coming to the real time combat because I thought it was pretty weak and boring in Episode Duscae. Not only was it light years away from the real time combat in a Tales or Star Ocean game but it wasn't even close to being as good as the combat in FF Type-0 HD.

I mean if you're only going to be able to control Noctis the whole game then they really need to step it up and make it a lot more interesting. What's great in Type-0 is that if you get bored with one character you have 13 others that all play pretty differently and it's hard to pick my favorite even if I probably favor Seven (Lightning+Ivy fusion)

It probably doesn't help the gameplay systems in the demo were only 50% of the final thing.

I feel like after XIII and XIV Square fell into this weird learned helplessness. It's as if the lessons that they learned from those games were that they should doubt their own abilities as visionaries rather than merely rethink the way in which those visions should be implemented: having an engine ready at the start of the generation, etc.

I don't doubt for a second that Square is capable of doing great things on their own, so it has been frustrating watching them consistently crawl back to the fan base looking for approval. I mean, I can't be surprised by the world outside of Midgar if you are just gonna show it to me all beforehand looking for my thumbs up.

This self-doubt is especially hindering for this franchise as Final Fantasy has always enjoyed such a divided fan base. For this game's combat alone you have people who:

Love it.
Wish it played more like a traditional action game.
Think Final Fantasy shouldn't even have real-time combat.
Think the franchise has been dead and buried since X...IX...VIII...VII...VI...IV (looking at you Brad Shoemaker.)

No clear direction will come from the fan base, nor should it be able to. We want to be wowed. We want to be shown the thing that we didn't even know we wanted and that just isn't going to happen if you are asking us what we want.

Divided fanbase is FFs main problem. And I don't think it's THIS divided in pretty much any other fanbase out there.

Anyway, I agree. Square has people there that can still make great games (where's Ito, Square?), but they decided to look at Toriyama to see if they had to depend on the fanbase or not...

Like, I don't even dislike the guy, but he is by far the weakest developer there.

Men can't show skin, apparently.

I seriously can't remember a single gratuitous cleavage shot. Most of the time the camera is focusing on her face, and maybe her boobs are at the bottom of the shot because that's just what her design is, but the focus is still her face.

Please, PLEASE pull the camera back to Kingdom Hearts II visibility levels. I'm not sure if it was oversight or a technical issue that locked them into the current visibility, but that killed my good vibes from the demo more than anything else.

Hell it's light years from Kingdom Hearts. Especially 2. Needs more skills/options, greater speed, more fluid attacks, and of course better lock on and camera.

Also needs some flying/warping like the E3 gameplay!

No they definitely had the camera literally pan with her ass at some points, it was pretty obvious.

Same, I enjoyed XIII and XIII-2. I just wish Square had not been so reactionary in trying to balance themselves after their series of unfortunate events.

Eh, no thanks. I'd rather FFXV's combat speed be between Souls/Borne combat and KH2's.
As for skills/options, of course we're getting more. There's a lot of combat options that were left out of the demo.
Fluid attacks/animations, lock on, and camera will more than likely be fixed as the game is continually worked on/polished.

I just want a better camera including lock-on, non-sluggish movement, better parrying, and music in the overworld (it doesn't have to play the whole time, could start and stop then start up again a few minutes later). I'm not worried about anyone's design because I'd be surprised if they didn't release outfit DLC. Whether that's a good thing or not is another thing. I want gameplay to be addressed. Oh and that music part of course.

Oh ho ho and I was just about to go to bed too. I don't know why but I have a sense of dread.

Demo's total ratings was an 8.3.

Japan rated the demo lowest while North America rated it highest.

Ha, Gladiolus was ranked higher than any other character.

North America more interested in story than Japan.
Japan more interested in this being the new Final Fantasy game.
Prompto was the lowest rated character in all regions. Everyone loved Shimomura's music.

Apparently many players in Japan stopped playing the demo because it was too difficult, didn't understand the goals, and didn't like the characters. Interesting.

Majority of people say they will buy the full game.
They confirmed they will be continuing the ATR.
Controls were rated low in nearly every region.

Stop being disingenuous.

Tabata previously stated that he felt Western players liked more difficult games. To him, I guess this just reaffirms his own views.

I clicked on this link assuming it'd be an alternate stream that would do English subtitles. Why is this a pre recorded video?

This is about the demo feedback. It was a worldwide demo so it only makes sense to address it universally.

15 main issues with the demo according to users(Tabata feedback included):
1. Lock-on
2. Camera too close.(planning to pull it back when in combat and possibly add camera controls for players)
3. Camera felt sluggish and heavy
4. A.I. is dumb. Allies get in the way of moving.
5. Jaggies, the drop in framerate.(anti-aliasing will be in the full game; will prioritize framerate over resolution although still aiming for full HD)
6. Motion and movement is slow, specifically battle movements(Speed from previous trailers like the E3 behemoth fight was reduced due to Noctis being near unstoppable and eliminating the need for a party)
7. Mini-map?(They will add one)
8. Want for a dodge action that doesn't rely on MP(the warp dodge was a leveled up version of the dodge roll, that doesn't need MP, which will also be in the main game)
9. Having to hide behind rocks to recover MP, Everything relies on MP(probably won't lose the focus on MP)
10. Battles are too difficult( Japan found battles difficult, NA found them easy; possibility of adding a difficulty option)
11. Game is too monotonous; repetitive battles, bad controls(looking to add button remapping for players)
12. The stamina for sprinting is annoying(looking to make certain foods may improve dashing distance and speed in the full game)
13. Warping as a regular means of travel( was implementable in February but caused many bugs so was cut; unlikely to be in the full game)
14. Cancel attacks by evading(even Tabata wanted this when playing; already implemented in the full game although you can't cancel out of every attack)
15. Bugs everywhere (lol they realized people could get to Titan)

Regional complaints
NA: Noctis vocie is strange, sounds like Batman( couldn't get re-recording in the demo; are working to make him feel younger)
Europe: Cindy is too sexy(not meant to be erotic; aren't looking to change her character too much)

After playing the demo, I can only say that I'm pretty much sold on the game already. Really liked the combat. There are some issues of course, but I still think that this is going to be one of the best FFs ever.
