Welp

Fuck off, Konami. Just go away.

This is amazing. In good and bad ways. I wonder what's going to happen now.

For fucks sake Konami, stop being assholes. Oh who am I kidding, this isn't ending anytime soon.

Also, I created an acronym for Konami:

Kooky
Old
Nihilistic
Assholes
Mocking
Intellectuals.

I'm still going with my theory that Silent Hills was SO good and SO scary that it literally drove the heads of Konami irreversibly insane.

Their only course of action is to lash out at anyone and everyone who encouraged them to go mad by destroying the game that broke their minds and tore their souls apart.

I remember in the original Kojima x Konami thread I said that Konami needs to be THQ'ed since they don't give a shit about Castlevania, Contra, Silent Hill, ZOE, Suikoden, Hudston Soft titles and many of their other IPs since it would be of benefit to gamers if those IPs where sold off to more worthy publishers. Some dunce argued saying they would rather have people keep their jobs, fuck that, to do what exactly? Nothing?

Whelp, this has certainly turned me off of Pachinko for life.

Pachinko looks like the most awful thing ever in videos I've seen of it. But I guess it's sort of like the JP equivalent of slot machines in Western gambling, the whole thing seems so joyless and robotic but people do sit for hours and push the button over and over again hoping for something to happen.

Depends on the person, I guess. My grandma plays a lot. She usually plays on 3 or 4 machines at the same time, no sitting allowed. And she is over 80 now!

I just looked them up more extensively and you're right. I had always thought them some weird fusion of pinball and slot machines, but no, they're very much more like slot machines. Pretty lame.

That said, if gambling is anything in Japan like it is in the U.S., that's the sort of thing that doesn't go out of style or fluctuate much, and that's probably what Konami's banking on. If that market ultimately putters out, it will take a long while to do it and Konami could restructure themselves once again to compensate. They've thought this out from a corporate sense to be sure, but they're still belligerent old hacks that don't give a flying fuck about the video game industry or their longtime loyal consumers.

Whatever is the higher up in Konami HQ that is salty enough about Kojima to ignore every PR phonecall begging him to stop I need to say: Man, I really hope you are smarter about the Panchinko and Gambling stuff and not burn talent and good will at the first sing stuff is not going your way.

Konami may very well don't need video game fans, but certianly I will still call them jerkasses.

In America, a company that no longer wants to play in a given industry but holds significant assets in that industry will sell those assets before they refocus on their stronger industry.

What is with their scorched earth approach? Is it a Japanese culture thing? Do they really believe that there is enough overlap in gambling and gaming to make contra worth more money for them as a slot machine theme than as an asset to be sold to another gaming company?

As far as mobile is concerned;I can see square moving existing properties to mobile as they have proven appeal to younger players. Does Metal Gear? Does Silent Hill? Two games series that have survived off of atmosphere and spectacle that really has yet to be emulated in mobile?

It makes sense to hold on to the rhythm game properties but why are they not selling the rest?

If Inafune-megaman is any indication, japan corporate higher ups are resentful enough to kill IPs. At least Capcom can claim that MegaMan doesn't make that much money and are still in bussiness. Konami seems willing to going out as loud as possible.

The weird thing is how much they try to bury stuff while not 'caring'. This seems going beyond a clueless old japanese executive. No wonder why the employes think the CEO is going insane,

Just think a year ago most of us were ignorant of what a truly terrible company Konami was. MGSV and then I am never buying another Konami game again, even if we get Revengeance 2.

Because once you sell something, it's sold forever. Whether they want to continue making games with them or not, those IPs are a part of Konami's legacy.

Let's say the next CEO in line disagreed with abandoning console video games (which may be entirely possible); if they sold it all off, they'd have to start from square one.

They also have mobile gaming options if they keep them, but their track record on that front doesn't seem promising, either.

But more likely than anything else, they will potentially attempt the IP monetization trick and make money getting other companies to pay for the licenses and make the games themselves. Not that I see that working or anything, but it sounds stupid enough for Konami to try it.

2 things:

First, considering all of the terrible bullshit they're already pulling with that game in and of itself, why buy MGSV before cutting them off?

Second, the only reason people were ignorant of what was happening is because they wanted to be. Konami has been easily identified as the closest equivalent to EA in terms of out-of-touch scumbags and assholes for years now, as far back as the Hudson Soft purchase.

PSN checks all liscences at once. if one does not exist on network, all DRM checks for PSN fail #PS4share

so just checked, even deleting P.T. does not remove its license from your system. If you downloaded P.T. ever at any point, then

Nick Cramer @Pacifist_Elk · 21 hours ago
You will be unable to renew licenses of your digital games. For someone like me who owns mostly digital, this means that I cannot play

Nick Cramer @Pacifist_Elk · 21 hours ago
I cannot play any of my games. Konami is holding all of my games hostage. For the crime of having downloaded P.T.

Nick Cramer @Pacifist_Elk · 21 hours ago
Them pulling it from the store fucked everything up in ways you cannot imagine. Driveclub players had the same issue back when it was pulled

Nick Cramer @Pacifist_Elk · 21 hours ago
but driveclub pull was temp. Problems for people ceased when driveclub finally returned. For those who downloaded P.T., you might be

Nick Cramer @Pacifist_Elk · 21 hours ago
saying goodbye to your entire digital library forever.

If that's true, ROFL WTF Sony?! Who would design such an abysmally stupid DRM check system and allow it to happen when content is removed?

Someone should start a new thread on this. How's that all-digital future coming along, y'all?

Fine for people who don't own a Sony console, it would seem.

I would skip MGSV, but I'd be lying if I said I will. Might as well see what Hideo Kojima's last hurrah in MGS will be like.

I just never paid much attention to videogame news until I joined up here last year, so all this Konami stuff is really new and crazy to me.

Does Konami not have an in-house PR guy? If he's sanctioning all this he should be fired for being a moron, and if the (supposedly) manic CEO is going over his head he should surely quit in protest to distance his career from this fiasco.

If they do, he's done a shittacular job for the better part of 5 years at minimum, apparently. Multiple journalism sources have confirmed that.

Well, at least you're honest that you want one last sip of that Kojima MGS. Though with all of this, it might not leave a good taste in your mouth.

And fair enough, if you didn't follow the industry at all, can't fault you for not noticing. But there are people who have followed the industry for the better part of a decade who decided they'd rather put their fingers in their ears and hum a tune than actually identify what a horrible company Konami has become, because they didn't have the guts to protest by not buying their games (what few there are), when all was said and done.

I was going to make the new thread but I need more context?

Who is this Nick Cramer guy?

Where is he getting this info from?

I read his twitter, his games were locked after he lost network connection, and BEFORE he deleted P.T. Im wondering if that is his primary PS4?

Why does he think this is Konami's doing? If this is truly valid this falls on Sony I would guess.

I dont recall DriveClub doing this, anyone have a source?

Idk if it's true, or who's fault it is, if it is true. I just seen the tweets, and relayed the information. Those tweets were RT'd quite a bit.

Thread's been closed anyway.

Not actually that important
So any chance they try to double (triple, quadruple...?) down on this whole Kojima business and the backlash the fans and gaming community in general are having and just eat the cost of straight up not releasing MGSV at this point? I mean, so far they have been willing to do some petty things (stop PT from existing, removing then readding Kojima's name to years old released games, etc.), so is it so outlandish to ask if this could realistically happen?

Is this a serious question? It's gotta be a meme I'm not privy to, or at least I hope it is for your sake.
Come the fuck on dude, I don't wanna be an ass but just think for a second. Think.

So in many ways, we are really stuck with the CEO retiring (alongside his obvious yes-man fanbase in the upper heirarchy) before things can go back to normal, if ever?
