Bethesda: "Please Stand By" (aka obvious Fallout teaser) [maybe not crossgen]

Which platform will you play Fallout 4 on?

Crossgen is quite disappointing. Bethesda aren't known for technical quality and having to deal with 5 platforms is a major challenge.

On the other hand it's impressive what the old consoles can do. FFXIV comes to mind specifically. Still tho the game will be shackled.

I also agree they should've just waited till the conference for maximum impact.

Will still sell boat loads tho haha.

Sure. Why not?
Yeah I don't think so. At least not without making a butt ugly game, depopulating the towns and having oblivion type loading screens.

If the game were designed with last gen in mind it would likely be a different vision and scope.

If this is cross gen it is likely because development started on last gen and the game was designed for last gen initially. Likely meaning the guts of the game are going to be based around last gen limitations.

Seems so, people care more about the fact that the game is crossgen rather than the fact that IT EXISTS.

Obviously. Everyone knew this game already existed and was going to come eventually. It being possibly crossgen is the bigger deal and frankly, it's a bummer if it's true.

Imagine how Witcher 3 would be if it had to support last generation hardware.

Do people want a world as detailed and fleshed out and the sheer amount of content as Witcher 3 for FO4? Because if you are supporting 500 freaking MB's of RAM it WILL have an impact

Even if it isn't cross-platform, there's not much chance of it matching Witcher 3's content. That game is fucking huge, and Bethesda has yet to make anything as robust and packed with enjoyable and meaningful content.

Presumably because those concerns are always like 5% based in reality, 30% "I don't know how or why this is going to affect anything but it makes me feel less good about buying a new console", and 65% just straight up Chicken Little doomsaying.

There's no universe in which a Fallout 4 wasn't going to happen after F3 and New Vegas. This isn't a Bayonetta 2 announcement, interested as I am in F4

Cross gen eh? hope they dont hold back too much.
I don't really care because I am getting it on PC anyway since Bethesda have a shit history on consoles

Looking through the CSS, the preorder sections only seem to be using the PS4, Xbox One and PC logos. I'm thinking the previous mention of 360 and PS3 in the file are for global use, as it also lists Mac icons up there.

Someone on Reddit found this; code for pre-order stuff for PC, PS4 and X1. Nothing for last gen systems.

One is already certain the other it's still unknown. Now that the game is confirmed, people will focus on the uncertainties. Until all is revealed.

But don't the crossgen worries stem from CSS files on the fallout.bethsoft.com website? The website that's been used for 360 and ps3 games? There doesn't really seem to be a lot of credibility with the crossgen rumors.

So you´re saying it could have been made?
Not in the way the current vision has been delivered.

Could they make a game called witcher 3 and it be open world? Yes, but it's guts would be a lot different and the final product would reflect that.

A lot of people feel the same exact way. Sorry to say this PS3/XBOX360 gamers, but cross-gen games need to go away after this year.

Yup, cross-gen is ridiculous at this stage. If the game hits 2016, then they will still be creating games for a system is 10 years old, or close to. Even longer for the 360 development as it launched in 2005, so 11 years for the 360.

WAY past time to give it up on the cross-gen stuff.

Not just graphics but gameplay mechanics are heavily held back by hardware as well. When you're limited by how much you can render or display a lot can get lost in a design vision.

Where are all of the examples of next-gen gameplay mechanics that has raised the bar so much? Cause I sure as hell have not seen it and don't think that being cross-gen would hurt what they wanted to do in that area at all.

It absolutely would affect the PC version too, just like it did for every Bethesda game so far. For the longest time Skyrim would inevitably crash with enough NPCs present, no matter how beefy your hardware was. Simply because of how the game's memory use was designed, for consoles. Took years for the modding community to find a fix for this.

If this game is cross gen the last gen versions will have to be cut content or something other than the same as the current gen versions.

After the skyrim ram debacle the last gen versions just can't be the same...

False alarm, ladies and gentlemen. This has been a test of the emergency hype deflation system. You may now go back to being FUCKING HYPED FOR FALLOUT 4 WOOOO!!
That is all.

There we go. That's the confirmation that this is all nonsense I was waiting for.

Animations are usually a good place to start for that due to how memory intensive they are.
Man, that would be fucking brutal if that affects the already horribly animated Bethesda open world games. Animations were one area I really wanted to see Bethesda step their game up.

PC will definitely be the way to go because of mods, but I really wish that if they go cross gen they develop the new gen/pc independently.

Man, I don´t know.

If GTA V just came out on current gen people here would try to convince everybody how it never could have been made on last gen.

And yet..
