PC Racing Sims Thread

Is there any online community in R3E. That would interest me if there would be some solid GTR2 Pack/GT3 ADAC Masters leagues / even public races going on. 22€ for the content that the 2014 ADAC Experience has is not bad at all!

Is the one in the game the road going version or is it that one? If it's the former, seems like a pretty damn big oversight.
No idea. I just remember the story and Ian posted it again years later. It's a great story for those who don't believe race tyres are very sticky when at their designed operating temps.

And, as you well know, those (and many other) issues are being addressed in patch 1.4 which will be out any day now.
One could argue that the game should have never had as many issues as it currently does; at least the majority are being fixed!

RaceRoom Racing Experence - Recently update to improve the AI, constantly getting new content and the developers are constantly improving the game and speaking to the community. Possibly a lot of dicking about with FFB to get it to feel how you like. Uses the same engine as above but considerably more polished. Sells content peace meal so it's like getting a free game and buying DLC, odd pricing on a few items.
R3E uses the same physics engine as other isimotor 2 sims albeit heavily modified by Sector 3. Graphics engine is an in-house solution, learnt I believe from their Xbox experiment Race Pro (which both looked and ran better after Atari decided to press discs in haste) and from a cancelled project with another developer.

I'd suggest picking up: Game Stock Car, Raceroom with one of the content packs bound to go on sale this week.
Yes indeed! The other sims are worth buying at some point - don't forget GTR 2 as well.

Oh, absolutely. The sheer number of completely basic functions that didn't work as intended was staggering, and a lot of them were immediately apparent. It was an utter mess on release (yet still strangely completely thrilling to play..!)

which is the best sim for driving road cars?
Do any of the recent sims have the r32 GTR? It would be interesting to see how it handles in game compared to real life

As long as you just want to 'drive', Assetto Corsa. It's not particularly good as a 'racing sim' though, despite it's tagline.

G920 coming soon: http://gaming.logitech.com/product/g920-driving-force?wt.ac_id=global_news_g920_06112015

Blog here: http://blog.logitech.com/2015/06/11/driving-force-racing-wheels/

Each wheel has been engineered with dual-motor force feedback to realistically simulate the feel of your car. Helical gearing ensures exceptionally smooth, quiet and precise steering action. Anti-backlash hardware keeps the wheel and pedal input tight, to maximize control. These wheels feature hand-stitched leather, stainless steel paddle shifters and pedals and solid steel ball bearings will last for years around the track and replicate the feel of your car.

Improving on the G27 design, the G29 and G920 each include a separate pedal unit, that lets you comfortably brake, accelerate and change gears, just as you would in an actual car, and also allows you to maintain a more realistic body position for driving. The Driving Force Shifter, available as an optional add-on and sold separately, adds even more control with a six-speed gear selector and push-down reverse. All components can be mounted securely to desks or racing simulator chairs such as Playseat.

R3E should have the race version sometime soon as it's been spotted in a few videos ;)

It's like they dug up the plans from the G27, and slapped on some buttons and a new logo. I paid €100 less for my brand new G25 when it just launched.

I might pick up the shifter tbh. I can't really justify the $150 for the TH8RS or whatever for the T500, so a cheaper option will be nice to have for those certain cars that I want to try a proper H-gate on.

From when I had my G27 it's a shitty, poor excuse for a shifter. You're much better off with the TH8 even though it is more expensive.

The G920 will have an xinput driver on Windows? The G29 will not? DirectInput; presumably yes for both? Is this just marketing? I mean... wha.. what are we talking about here?

Even in capitulation this stuff is still a mess.

It seems like no tech gets launched these days without a shit-ton of fud and conflicting information, be it release date, price or basic specs.

Scratch that, the WTCC pack has been LAUNCHED! 899 VRP, so much cheaper than the Group 5 cars. That means it's £6.49 in proper money, so 4 cars for the less than the price of iRacings Aston Martin GT1. ;)

Just tried R3E driving the Saleen on RaceRoom Raceway.

It definetly feels nice, my ffb settings still feel way too vague though. At first it was horrible but now it's a bit too vague. Easy to catch slides though.

Would love if some R3E players hang out in a TS/Server would let me in too. Would like to hear some ffb / general advice since

Also, R3E packs on sale in steam. So cheap!

The DTM 2015 Virtual Championship is a very cool idea I have to say.

Use the yet to be released DTM 2015 content for free to compete in a different hotlap challenge every week. If you happen to be an alien, race the top 20 guys plus a couple of pro drivers too at the end of the week.

Round 1 begins today - Hockenheim.

What pack do you guys recommend to start off with?

Mucked around with the Saleen last night with my WiiU controller. Was hilarously hard to handle, but the way the transmission jerked and struggled was incredibly accurate and the cockpit noise was fucking spot on. Hooking up my old Driving Force Pro tonight to give it another bash, and then go shopping for a T300 :)

I think the ADAC pack is probably gonna give you the most value. It's got a nice chunk of cars and tracks to add to the game, whereas the DTM packs, while having the tracks, only give you the 3 DTM cars. You can test drive the different cars in RRRE and see which ones you think you'd like most, but for me it'd be the ADAC.

How do you test drive them? I went into practice and all the cars said 'Buy Now'

So can I Time Attack whenever I want, or is it scheduled?

Whenever you'd like. Just click "Join event" on the leaderboard page and it will launch RR and the DTM event. I did a couple of laps and the car felt good. I look forward to setting a more competitive time.

Only Europeans can do the top 20 race apparently. Count yourself lucky, punks!

I did a few races with the WTCC cars, and had a blast. I don't know if locking up the inside rear is a real world technique for rotation, but it sure is fun. It may not be my drivetrain of choice, but it's a nice change of pace.

I need to get my ffb in better shape though. It's the one thing that's got me down atm.

BTW, you can get even better deals by buying points from their store. Even with the conversion rate to euro, it works out better for me.

Go to the store page on the main menu, then up at the top you can select cars by class (DTM, ADAC, Group 5, etc.) and then you can click "test drive" below the car you want to test drive and you get 5 minutes with that car on the Raceroom track.

That DTM Championship thing is super-cool! I also grabbed the ADAC pack yesterday and can't say it's bad. Plenty of cars and some good tracks that'll get me going.

Also, any FFB settings for T300RS on R3E? I'm still struggling because it's feeling so vague for me. Can't post my settings right now but later in the day i can..

I dropped the understeer to 15% which resolved a lot of those issues.

Great news. Although looking at the dev video from a couple of days ago, it seems as if the AI may take a patch or two to get right. Lots of traffic-jamming going on.

They might integrate it in to the release with a hotfix. Macau must be a colossal pain in the rear to programme for since the roads drop to one lane at some points.

I've got issues getting FFB running on my Driving Force Pro.
I have it connected to the PC and it's showing up in Device Manager as 'Driving Force'.
The wheel works fine except it doesn't have 900deg rotation or FFB. There is only one LED light on the wheel, but I've tested the AC adapter and it's got 24V.
Tried downloading the driver package off the logitech website, but after I install it doesn't detect the wheel.
This is really frustrating! Tried to download some ghetto driver but ended up downloading some weird driver installer that didn't work.

Would appreciate any help. Cheers

EDIT: Running Win7

Apparently this is the driver to get it running, except now it's a dead link:

Cross posting from the DiRT thread. I think this should help you out.

Thank you so much it's now working great! I chose the 64 bit on the website but it must have a wrong link or something.

Just trying out RRE. Do you have to warm the tyres and brakes when you start a session?

Does anyone have a good beginner's guide for iRacing?
Picked up a one-year subscription and have no idea where to start. Also a bit cheesed at the lack of cars and tracks but that's on me for not researching properly I guess

Have you watched the two video series under the 'Help' section? There is 'Driving School' and 'How To'. For some reason the 'How To' section keeps resetting to the first Driving School video for me, but you can watch them directly on YouTube anyway:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7D7DD0D7A5EB18CD

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqZLBOpI5JFKebBA_i-SCkGRRypXovWv6

There's also a Basic Training playlist too, but it is probably repeating a few things from the How To guide: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqZLBOpI5JFI7AWdvl7Uz7ZFw5iBsi2xr

Is anyone using the GT Omega Steering Wheel Stand and can tell me if it's worth buying?
Need a good and stable wheel stand for my G27 but I don't one with a bar between my legs like the Wheel Stand Pro.
