Halo 5 Gameplay Demo (E3 2015)

as beautiful as Battlefront looks, this Warzone feature makes me think I will be spending most of my multiplayer gaming time this holiday on Halo.

Seriously. 343 is out Battlefielding Battlefield with this. Halo's core guns, grenades, melee gameplay (combined with Halo's full allotment of vehicles) always had the potential to be the standard of massive shooter battles. Looks like its finally happening.

I really like all the scoring options in this mode. Holding and attacking the bases looks fun as hell. Then theres that extra dynamic of destroying the main base rather than trying to hit the score limit. That alone is a major game changer from standard Battlefield conquest - which had no real way for a dramatic comeback.

Maybe because I dabble with CS GO, but the skins and aesthetic potential is really exciting. Someone else mentioned Pro Team skins/colours, which I think's a great idea.

Another idea would be, just like Buck has this symbol on his shoulder, have something similar for each of the pro teams.

The teams would use them in competition, and you could unlock it and wear it if you're a fan. It's also a way of making the pro teams and the competitive HCS side more visible across all of multiplayer. How many casual multiplayer people have never heard of some of the Halo pro teams? This time next year, it could be significantly higher.[/QUOTE]

I'm a huuuuuge fan of DotA 2 and its competitive scene, so this stuff really excites me as well. Historically in Halo I've always wanted my Spartan in multiplayer looking a certain way (Mark VI, Steel colored armor, Red Triforce symbol), so expanding on this for Halo 5 is certainly something that interests me personally. I think investing in ways we can tell the stories of the HCS is super important, and that really extends to all kinds of media including potentially things in-game.

This is the best video so far of the mode. I only hope it's a decent number of war zone maps and that we get a space one.

I know it might be a bit much, but a warzone map with a few different multi level space stations would be pretty neat.

E: Looking at the post above, that model just sold me on LE, thing looks sweet.

Definitely sold me, though I'm going to get the collectors edition since you get limited edition statue plus locke/chief statue

I definitely will. I'm actually out on SW:BF, personally. It looks great, but I know the novelty will wear off for me. Halo will be my shooter of choice this fall.

Halo 4 was amazing. What was neglected? It felt like the most compete Halo game that had been released.

Ugh, Halo 4 was lacking. Severely.

- No Firefight
- Farmed out, half assed Forge that only added a few small features
- Campaign Theatre completely absent (lame excuses for this as modders added it back in)
- Half arsed "cinematic moments" - elevator and ending QTE's and some COD missile camera footage moment
- Strip Club Cortana made everyone uncomfortable
- Very poor/almost existent combat feedback
- New enemies are essentially bullet sponges
- Worst multiplayer map design in the series with the moment forgettable maps (some PSP military game game made some of them?)
- The worst gameplay system to ever appear in competitive Halo (random Ordinance, spawning with power weapons)
- Adding mechs to Valhalla and painting it brown
- Replacing every iconic sound effect because of 343 wanting to "own Halo"
- Terrible story that required players to read a trilogy of books to fully understand what was happening
- Almost shipping the game without the original VA for Chief and Cortana
- Fastest online population decline in the series

When Halo 5 comes out, every single point above from Halo 4 will be looked again and I honestly hope there are improvements across the board.

Dat weapon selection screen though.

What the hell.

Requisition card. Essentially if you are playing really well in a game you can level up and choose different weapons as long as your team holds an armory.

Tries to give someone whom is playing well some reward for their performance.

That does not exist in standard Halo Arena and other modes. Just this one.

The campaign is every bit as dynamic and often more so. Demo is a clean, easy to understand slice of a fairly linear and small part of that level.

I understand what you all at 343 were trying to do, but I respectfully would like to voice my opinion that the campaign slice that was shown was honestly not all that exciting.

I like how you showed off the new Promethean vehicle, and new mechanics such as revive and commanding your fire team.

BUT you all have been stressing from the start that one of the big changes to the campaign is that it is not as linear, and that was not expressed at all in this demo. I saw what seemed to be some alternate corridors, but the person demoing did not look around much after the first 10 seconds....he just quickly went along a clearly scripted path, and then there was the big scripted destruction section, and really, the demo ended in a very similar fashion as your H4 campaign demo with Locke seemly about to get blasted...

Also, I don't think that it helped that the level section was not very big...
Don't get me wrong, I think the whole guardian set piece is cool, but I think we were just hoping for more set pieces that involve actual gameplay....sort of like when you get to actually take on a scarab in Halo 3....or the longsword mission in Halo 4....

Now I obviously don't know everything that ya'll have up your sleeve, and believe that H5 will have less linear arias and stuff, but I just wanted to express that I did not see any of those things in the trailer, and hope that we can at least see some of these more open ended levels before the game comes out in October.

If I could make my own thread I'd totally do it and ask this question but since I can't I want to ask it here.

Graphically speaking, do you guys think halo 5 looks better than Killzone? I mean we all know halo 5 is going to be the better game, no debate there. Just on a strictly visual comparison though. I'd really love to hear people thoughts on this.

While I can appreciate what halo 5 is doing and it's one of my most wanted games I personally think Kz just looks more impressive and it saddens me considering it's a launch game. I couldn't even force myself to beat kz but thats besides the point lol.

I find myself really wishing 343 would have manned up and made a new engine from the ground up.

Killzone wasn't 1080p/60 for its campaign though.

I can't really compare visuals in a vacuum without consideration for things like Halo 5 being 60fps and Killzone being 30fps, or Killzone being single player while Halo 5 is squad based with drop-in, drop-out co-op. There are always trade-offs and pros and cons.

Killzone wasn't 1080p/60 for its campaign though.
I don't think Halo 5 is 1080p. Have they mentioned resolution? I'm assuming 900p.

And yet it still looks more impressive.
And yet? Lower framerate and resolution allow for greater visual fidelity in other areas. Halo 5 probably (almost certainly) isn't going to be 1080p, but if you're comparing a 60FPS title to a more linear/enclosed 30FPS title on a more powerful system you're pretty much guarantted a disparity in graphics.

Watched it about 5 times now, the guy in the mech could have won it for his team had he not got stuck in the building lol

Towards the end of the match... 3 of those flying Promethean Phaetons all on the same team just destroying everything. So amazing how much is going on at the same time and it's keeping a steady 60fps.

That's what happens when you get a media folk playing who have no idea what they're doing but just wanted to see the game or see one of the Hololens demos they're doing.

Warzone looks like it'll provide some absolute madness as people learn to take the boss enemies or if you get 4-5 ghosts lopping up to rush a base.

WTF???

Halo 4 included Spartan Ops, which even if it wasn't as fun as firefight, it was a noble attempt at expanding on the concept.

Campaign Theater was absent probably due to deadlines. Also, when a modder adds something, it doesn't mean he/she tested that it works for all instances. Maybe campaign theater takes a shit in plenty of scenarios and cutting back on the SP campaign for the theater isn't a worthy tradeoff.

Halo 4 is the most cinematic experience of them all. It set a standard for real time visual cinematics next gen.

More like sexy Cortana.

The new enemies were pretty cool IMHO.

Yes, I feel that beyond Narrows, no map introduced in Halo 4 is a classic.

The story was not terrible, but the requirements to follow it were indeed fucking ridiculous.

The decline in population was also due to the competitive in FPS scene nowadays. The days of Halo 2, Halo 3 or MW4 are long gone. No game can be that dominant anymore.

Yeah there will be some crazy videos coming from that mode.

Not really impressed with the limited and collector's edition. As the maps are now free, there is no season pass included. The animated series will be on youtube in no time, the dossiers will probably be up in no time as well. So, that means the small metal statue is the only thing you wouldn't be able to get your hands on.

Now for the collector's edition, if it had been 150 dollars/euros I would have jumped on it. But seeing as Halo Reach's collectors had a statue + a real looking journal instead of some leaflets for the price of 150 dollars.. this one just seems kinda steep.

How big is the metal guardian? I might put it in my office. It looks classy, and doesn't really scream manchild like the other statues. The chief and locke statue is definitely going to the storage like the rest of my Halo shit, I don't even know why I am getting it, sigh...
