Who is responsible for this mess of a port?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Yeah there doesnt seem to be any rain effects on any surface in the PC version other than a slight gloss. Like they forgot to pack the texture or something.

In that comparison pic showing the rain difference the DoF also looks much nicer on PS4. This is bullshit.

maybe tomorrow it rains
Speaking of MKX, how's the pc version these days?

Black crush is still present in cutscenes, but I haven't had crashing or performance issues for the past few weeks. The troublesome stages seem to be fixed. I can't speak for the online play, since I don't have anyone on my friends list playing and I don't like fighting randoms. But everything with the singleplayer and local matches has been fine for me lately.

High Voltage is off of MKX PC. QLoc is handling it now.

I'm actually sorry for Iron Galaxy studios... I work on IT Consulting, and sometimes there is just so much you can do with what your given, I'm sure the decision to release the game as is was not Iron Galaxy's doing.

I kinda feel the situation went like this:

*Meeting at WB HQ*

IG Team Leader: So, we have been optimizing some things here and there but we are only 12 people and its kinda taking us a long time.
WB/RockSteady: Yeah yeah, don't worry, you just go ahead and add pretty smoke and stuff.
IG Team Leader: But... the framerate is not very stable right now and that wont help at all, we would like some time to optimize this, or even some help to get it done in time.
WB/RockSteady: Nah, we're busy with the preorder DLC chart, we still have to butcher a couple more parts of the game and five or six more costumes.
IG Team Leader: Ermmm, well, so extra time then?
WB/RockSteady: Nah, well just slam what you have into a couple DVD's, the rest will be downloaded, and make sure you absolutely PRIORITIZE the inclusion of that denuvo thing thats so safe.
IG Team Leader: That will actually make the game run worse...
WB/RockSteady: We don't care, we already made profit with preorders and season passes!
IG Team Leader: geez.. ok, got it then...

*IG Team Leader goes back to IG office*

IG Team Leader: Guys, we gotta wrap this up.
IG Devs: Boss, this ain't anywhere near done...
IG Team Leader: Our client doesn't care, no extra time, no extra help.Stop what you are doing and implement that denuvo shit.
IG Devs: *Sigh*, people are gonna hate us because of this and it ain't even our fault...

*Dramatic music, camera starts flying away, exits window, flys away from building while focusing on dev team through window.... looks at sunset*

So yeah, this is kind of a humorous approach, I just feel it hits home and its not the first time I have not been able to do my best because of circumstances. I'm not sure how the real situation went and this could very well be IG's fault for doing a shitty job and all, just want to think that this game just caught up on corporate BS instead of on developer incompetence.

I'm really feeling sorry for those guys right now :(.... Not for WB or RockSteady though.

Why? They aren't owned by WB. They took the contract, it wasn't forced upon them. They've released shitty ports in the past under similar circumstances. At a certain point they should have learned about their capabilities by now.

A third party dev getting in over their heads once, sure, I feel bad. Doing it routinely? Your management needs rethinking.

Watch Dogs got a lot of deserved shit for it's port, but I was still able to get an above console experience at 1080p with a GTX 680.

Now we have GPUs that are a multitude as powerful as PS4 struggling with 30fps and missing effects. GG WB.

I am reluctant to put all the blame on Iron Galaxy here. Ultimately the publisher is responsible for this. Not Rocksteady, not IG, just WB.

I'm not familiar with game development so pardon my ignorance, but in this kind of things, shouldn't the rough schedule be laid out before the work begins? Shouldn't the Team Leader realize from the start that it's not feasible with his 12-man team?

Thanks, that settles it. I will wait for them to fix the ambient occlusion and the rain/wet surface effects to play it on PC at 30fps.

I agree. I was thinking about going PS4 but if that has issues too while driving, fuck it. Fix PC or no buy. As it stands, I have doubts this will ever be fixed completely.

edit: OMG those frame drops on consoles in the Batmobile are just as ridiculous as on PC.

really sucks so many people are having so many issues. i haven't had anything major but I do go into the 20 fps range during some batmobile sequences. amd build here.

lame.

that "you know we have graphics settings guys" press release made me laugh.

Man i felt like a real idiot, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF USING THE SETTINGS!?!?

i'm sorry WB, we all owe you an apology.

I was wondering why the PC version was so cheap everywhere..

See, you'd think that, but there's no way Nvidia is happy with this outcome. Their name is plastered all over the game. If everyone knew the port was going to be half-assed, I doubt any company would want to put their fingerprints on it quite so plainly.

Brought this up in the other thread too but,

Why the fuck are Steam and others still selling this, knowing what they know about how broken it is?

That is another thing that needs to become standard. If a game ships substantially broken, it shouldn't stay on the storefronts.

Or at least a warning. Instead, it's prominently featured. Fuck off with that shit. Put it in the fucking early access category.

PC got fucked with water quality as well it seems...

You can also tell the rain density difference between versions.

I really don't think we'll get these "features" on PC.

Yeah. As much as Andy says the tweak guide was not released because of E3 madness, I have a feeling that Nvidia didn't want to stick their neck out until they get to the bottom of this mess

I agree Iron Galaxy isn't blameless in this, but to me it seems to say something more about WB when they must've looked at their collective resume and apparently came to the conclusion of "well I guess we can hire these guys pretty cheap to do the PC version. That settles it."

"When running Nvidia SLI, not running SLI may improve performance"

to be fair that should be on a sticky note under your monitor for every game once you decide to buy 2 cards knowing so few games support it correctly

SLI is crap - not that it's the fault of anyone who goes for it. It shouldn't be.

@Scrooge McDuck

The rough schedule should be laid out in advance, of course. But that does not always guarantee that it can be followed and most importantly, achieved.

There should always be room for unexpected events when you make a planning for a project.

This probably means someone at IG is also to blame.

I've been in a web development project with 6 people and a super tight schedule that was IMPOSSIBLE to achieve, but telling our manager and our team leader was futile, they just said that this was a very good contract for the company and that we would have to do all the overtime that was necessary to complete the project in time.

We asked for more people, we got nothing. In the end we all left the company.

IG is not exempt of bad management decisions.

@Corpekata

That is true, as I said I really think its corporate BS, which means that bad decisions were made and worst, overlooked.

This is truly a very bad situation for everyone involved. I got my free copy with my 980 ti, but went to the store yesterday to pick up my PS4 preorder.

Much better, so much that its embarrassing.

I used an example of a personal experience above, that particular situation is what I feel may have happened here, but I really cannot know for sure, so it's just a gut feeling that made me sympathize with IG devs.

Sheesh, so sad to see the PC version suffering. I probably be checking out the PS4 version eventually in the end anyway, but hope this gets work on greatly.

I have almost never been so mad in my life at a publisher / developer as I am over this. Someone needs to be held fucking accountable, and their non answer makes it clear they probably won't even try to fix this.

I wanted to play this game so bad on PC. All the badass Nvidia trailers which looked amazing, seeing this finale in 1440p max setting. Dude I was PUMPED for this.

Then they say screw you to me, and don't even act like they give a shit. What a depressing thing man.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Port quality of the other Arkham games is mixed, but nothing like this. From memory, much of Origins' problems were more general game bugs (if sometimes broken) on every platform, rather than performance or port specific. Both Origins and City have stuttering issues in the open world, and DX11 City hits performance bizarrely hard (especially in some specific areas, like Crime Alley). That aside, both City and Origins had a fairly comprehensive graphics options menu and as a whole look and played well.

This seems borderline broken though, sweeping issues with optimisation and graphics that I'm going to assume were noticed during QA but due to time couldn't be fixed. Tanking to practically 1fps is not acceptable by any stretch of the imagination and anybody remotely disappointed with the port should be making good use of Steam's refund feature to send WBG a message.

Also, as Xander said, I can't imagine Nvidia would want their name attached to a busted PC port.

As a consumer, the best thing to do right now is to boycott the game and if you have this game on Steam, request a refund. I don't even own this game, and I'm furious on what is taking place here.

well they attached themselves to both Ass creed 3 and Unity

not saying they aint mad but

Origins was particularly egregious because WB came right out and said they'd rather work on DLC than patches for the game. As someone that suffered a couple gamebreaking bugs (plus a handful of other, non-gamebreaking issues) I can't help but be furious at the statement itself and their ultimate treatment of Origins.

At least Arkham Knight doesn't have multiplayer. Can't imagine how badly that would be right now.

This might be a bit subtle but here's a gif for this thread:

Still not right, remove the rain effect too and it will be golden. Plus we can see AO is present here by the fact that his collar cast shadows on his neck.

Try again.

:p

And paint out the AO.

I couldn't. I don't understand how they could sign the game off with that performance while driving. It pretty much constantly dips into the 20s. It really is worse than Watch Dogs.

This is admittedly funny in light of Dark10x talking about how the console version of Arkham Knight is one of the smoothest non-Nintendo games he's played.

Guess he didn't get in the car much.

I guess that's what happens when you're a PC port of a Batman game that wasn't delayed compared to the console versions? Interesting to see a month from now what issues remain. Someone at WB probably had to make the decision of either delaying the PC port at the last minute and get incredibly bad PR, or release as is and try to fix it before too many sales are lost.

Same here. I hate to sound like a pessimist, but I don't think they can fix it to the point where their custom UE would be able to handle >=60fps with any consistency. The best we can realistically hope for is to have all of the effects working as advertised.

Games with much lower average framerates were released and found to be completely fine. It's not even as bad as Watch Dogs, with that literally nobody on PC could get it to run at 60 fps at reasonable settings because they game was so tailored to only having one memory pool.
