Odin Sphere Leifdrasir announced - PS4/PS3/Vita, HD remaster w/ new shit, Jan 14 2016

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
High chance of North American localizations? Especially interested in Vita.

I need this game in English.
Considering we got the original version on PS2 along with it on PSN, I'm pretty sure Atlus will bring this over, especially since they're still the publisher in Japan and still own the rights in the US.

I'd honestly be shocked if this was confirmed for Japan only.

I'm somewhat interested in trying to play this again. I remember losing interest by the time I got to Oswald and the final boss fight for him. Absolutely loved the art style, but the repetition really got to me.

As a Vita enthusiast, I live in a constant state of fear.

Looks good. If they fix the battle syttem and the method to get exp, this could be great. I only manage to finish it cannon story, never get that secret ending..

Yeah. I stopped at that point too, especially, when you realized you needed to
beat the Final Story bosses with different characters to get all of the special/general bad endings
.

Oh man. Lol yeah this game has some definite issues. Combat (with Gwendolyn) is clunky as fug.
Still enjoying myself but wooooooo is it rough.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Here is a youtube link to the AtlusXVanillaware stream where they show gameplay (you can really see the changes they have done to the battle system & stages, much better IMO)

New Odin Sphere Gameplay

How fast is the battle system compared to the older one? Any similar video comparisons?

While I never thought I'd ever play Odin Sphere again after having beat it to 100% completion and enjoying it despite a lot of repetition...it looks like they've really changed and added a lot. Maybe it's the lack of slowdown, but Gwendolyn's attacks seem to lack the deliberate impact that they did before. Many people preferred Muramasa's gameplay, but I felt Odin Sphere had the more engaging and cohesive story, so hopefully they can take what they've learned and make a superior product.

Oh man. I made it all the way to the final boss rush before I left the game, and my original memory card, behind in a move. Attempts to replay it got dry as hell, but this is PERFECT. And on the Vita, too! Odin Sphere will fit a mobile setting very well, I think.

Thanks for this link. The stages look so much better organized. Also the rest stages allow you to do the cooking but it doesn't seem like such a grind.

Also, that combat! They've taken everything they've learned from previous games and applied it here. I can't wait, will have to import if no US release.

It seems much faster. The thing that disappointed me most about Odin sphere was how deliberate the combat felt. By the looks of it, it's much more Dragons Crown-like. I didn't think I would play this game, after watching the video, I'm sold

All those gameplay enhancements... despite the low video quality, the crystal cave was amazing.

Really happy for how fast inventory management has become, that's the only thing that really bothered me during my second playthrough.

Now THIS is an HD Remake. It is eliminating any criticism I had for what was probably my favorite game on the PS2.

The new areas look so refreshing. The mountain stage now has a stunning crystal cave, and a mountain climbing segment which is nice and adds some variety to the gameplay instead of 10-12 straightforward combat areas. The preview also showed breakable boundaries and more new places to go.

The game is so much faster now and one of my favorite parts is how they're handling planting.

In the original you had Rosemile which would give off about 12 phozons, and would take as long as 20+ seconds to come out 2 at a time. In the video it's 3-4 seconds. On top of that it seems you can just release phozons from your weapon at the press of a button. This really picks up the pace and makes grinding for food MUCH less of a chore. I'm assuming as a result the skill you would originally get to release phozons from your weapon is gone. It's major use in the old version of the game was to power-grind your character as phozons give you weapon EXP and you'd essentially recycle them for somewhat faster level.

The combat is infinitely better. You don't just have one combo and has been updated to be more in line with Muramasa/Dragon's Crown. The Psypher skills seem to be possibly customizable with not only shortcuts set to [O] and a direction, but the preview put up by Atlus here shows what looks to be skill trees for all the characters around the 2:45 mark.

Alchemy is also much better with them actually telling you on the screen what you can use to make what. It's just great.

Oh and the visuals being upgraded makes everything absolutely beautiful.

Absolutely Day 1 for me. This is a remake worth purchasing just on what has been shown. Couldn't be happier.

From what I can see in the video, Gwendolin's moveset is much more responsive that in the original (there isn't slowdown in the character animation like crouching, jumping or when you hit an enemy).

There is also the backflip to evade (that it seems you can also do in the air) that it wasn't in the original game. A more variety of attack's moves and it seems like they've increased the flying's speed too.

The stages are larger with more branches and you can teleport between zones within them.

And the inventory management has also improve it seems.

BTW in the video you can see the player pull a typical Muramasa aerial combo which I personally loved to see. (Castle Mid-Boss)

Man the battle system looks completely redone. No longer a stamina bar that would limit your attacks. That air combo was so good. Yeah this is day zero if it coming to the west. As others have said - this is how a remaster is done from looks of it.

From this week's magazine

-The system is completely revamped, but they know there are people who loved the original. So for those who loved original version, you will have an option to play the original version instead of the new system. So you will have an option to play the original game in HD, or this newly remaster version.
-they added new mid-boss monsters that they weren't able to put in the original version.
-older enemies are reworked so they will feel different
-the control will feel easy to get used to like Muramasa and Dragon's Crown
-the game will have cross-save

According to Famitsu, the game will indeed support cross saves, and there will be a HD remaster of the original game included (Classic Mode) with the remake. Along with new content and improved boss AI/patterns, they also confirm that the controls are now more similar to Muramasa and Dragon's Crown.

From the looks of that video, the POW/Stamina bar is practically superfluous now. It doesn't even drain while she's pulling off that 100-hit combo. Wouldn't this make the game a bit easy? It's not like the combos in the game will be hard to execute at all, so what will stop the player from just stringing infinites together on every boss?

Has there been any information on what looks like the leveling system? From the trailer, it looks to be some sort of branching talent based system

I just wish we had a human Cornelius skin. Playing as a Pooka always irritated me, especially because Cornelius had the best character design as a human.

You consume POW also to use some special attacks now, guess it will be affect the gameplay in a different way.

Would be sweet, wouldn't mind trying Odin either. He's got a psypher after all .

I can see myself dipping into the Vita version... I never finished this on PS2. It's also the only PS2 classic I purchased on PSN. So this would be my triple dip without ever finishing it before...

But on Vita, I may actually get through it.
