Next issue of Jump shows off PS4 battle screenshots so some early buyers say.
So much for PS4 version development is behind argument..

My question is, if XI is published for PS4 in the west by Sony, does that mean 3DS owners get fucked over? Same way vice versa. If Nintendo publishes the 3DS version in the west, do Playstation users get fucked?

I hope not, but I don't know of any other cases like this...

I'm almost wondering if it'll be the opposite. Is Nintendo going to let Sony get away with something that high profile? In addition, as crappy as Square Enix US has been to us DQ fans lately, are they really going to ignore the fact that the script betwen the PS4 and 3DS versions are the same? It would be a trivial investment to do both compared to just one.

Maybe we just have different playing styles and expectations. I find the process of enjoying entertainment on my console sufficiently onerous that when I commit I expect to be there for some time; 60-90 mins at least. That's because I need to find my TV remote, switch inputs, find the controller, wait for the system to start, wait some more for for the game to load then I need to fire up my save. No way I'm going through all that just to grind a few levels. Not when I can flip open my 3DS and start playing straight away, for any period of time including just a few minutes. Not to mention I can do this anywhere, not only on my couch.

My consoles only get used for local co-op play and for the occasional bit of Zelda or Bayonetta etc. All of which is to say that I like my Dragon Quest right where it is and has been for a decade: on portable machines.

I suppose you're right on with different strokes for different folks.

No offense, but if finding a remote, controller and turning on your tv/switching inputs and loading a save seems like a lot of work, I'm baffled. Including the fact consoles now have suspend features where you can literally press a single button and be exactly where you left off.

I like playing on my tv with nice sound and the lights off to really get into the game, which I can't seem to do with most handhelds.

But as I said, to each their own and I'm glad you and I can experience the wonder that is DQ11 in the ways we prefer.

lol you turn on the TV and Suspend/Resume has you playing in a matter of seconds. Talk about one of the funny over-dramatic explanations I have read in some time -_-

Some people have more time than others. Not hard to figure out. If you don't have a lot of time even trivial things are a bother.

The camera angles and the menus match, I guess? I'm just speculating here.

The menus are different. In the PS4 shot, he's selecting a target all the way over on the left side of the screen. On the 3DS shot, he's also selecting a target, but the target selection is on the right expanded from the base battle menu.

I mean, it's all speculation at this point, but the PS4 shot has a UI just like DQ10, whereas the 3DS version has a UI just like classic DQ.

They might let you switch between members at will but use AI otherwise like FF12. Would be interesting.

Yea I could see that, maybe turn off any AI so they just hold their turn, it'd be slower but helps you be more tactical whereas AI would make it faster.

Personally sincerely hoping not, want full on proper DQ battles with party control. Otherwise that might take the PS4 version from a secondary pickup to something I may not bother with, since I really, really didn't like XII...

This all looks absurdly amazing.

Looking at the battle scan I only see the protagonist. Not seeing a whole lot of screen real estate for other party members, I wonder how that's all going to work. I'm guessing three person party at most? Or They'd have to move the camera out when you get a bigger party. I'm guessing this screenshot is from early in the game, will be curious to see how it looks with a full party.

Watch Zelda U switching to UE4 and release on NX only.
  1. Nintendo has already went on record saying that Zelda U is still Wii U-bound.
  2. Nintendo usually sticks with their own engines, & they have no reason to switch.
On-topic, will the DQX PS4/NX ports come out at the same time as their respective versions of DQXI?

Yeah. There's lots of different ways they could work it. It only works the way it does in DQ10 specifically because you only control your character, since it's an MMO.

Doubt it. I expect the PS4 version of DQX to be released by Spring 2016 latest. Not sure about NX though. Maybe DQX at launch and then XI a bit later.

apparently some blogs mentioned that for 3ds ones, you need to pick either 2d or 3d after the early game part... hmmm (can someone with better jp skills check it)
