Quantum Break Gameplay (Gamescom 2015)

I don'tknow what to say other than there is almost zero chance Quantum Break will be generic from a plot point of view. Regardless of what someones opinion is of Remedy they push narrative in their games big time
I'm not familiar with Death Rally and Agents of Storm, but Max Payne and Alan Wake were admittedly critically praised for their plots, and the plot of QB may indeed be well done. But that doesn't mean it won't be cliche, and that's what the currently released material suggests.

pip pip cheerio you slags!
Name an announced game on the horizon that looks like Quantum Break either visually or from a narrative stand point.

On the horizon? Not much, visually maybe the new Deus Ex is kinda similar in that futuristic tech sorta way, not so much from color. But that wasn't my point. Remedy ain't really doing their own thing, they are making a 3rd person shooter with time manipulation.

i'm pretty sure he meant graphical prowess, no? i haven't seen anything look that good either.

I mean it's solid looking, I feel like it's matched by most of the next gen stuff we've seen.

I dont mean graphics prowess.

I mean there is nothing on the horizon in the market that has a similar visual or narrative aesthetic or design like QB

I'm not saying QB will be either revolutionary or that time travel has ever been done. But saying it look like the face of Focus Testing or generic is literal hyperbole considering its doing its own thing in the current market

I forgot Crytek owned Homefront.

If Crytek is unwilling to budge on IP ownership then I don't see much more than a marketing deal. I enjoyed Ryse a lot and I see the potential, but I'd much rather see Spencer put money towards his own IP, especially the amount it would take for a graphical showcase like Ryse 2 would be. For example, could you imagine a new Perfect Dark with a dev like Remedy at the helm with a QB-like budget? It could be incredible in story, presentation, and gameplay.

I don't know why Crytek would be so stubborn. It's not a particularly valuable IP, it didn't sell that well, and they had Microsoft bankrolling them from the beginning when it was still a dumb looking Kinect game.

I agree with you, I'd rather have Spencer putting money towards new IP and reviving cool stuff like Perfect Dark than haggle with Crytek over a new, launch title IP that isn't worth much in the first place, but whatever.

I wouldn't say no to a Ryse: Knights of England ior whatever the name of the sequel was rumoured to be if it was made though.

you're being far too logical about all of this.

clearly the posts you're rebutting [quite successfully, i might add] have agendas not rooted in such trivial things as... logic.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
This feels nothing at all like an overly focus grouped game. To me this seems like the logical progression for Remedy.

Because of Max Payne ...right.

The time warping effects make it look like that movie Jumper with a bit of Wanted and the crystaline sterility of a lot of modern day set action sci fi flicks. It's the sound that's most offensive. All I can hear is Michael Bay does trailers.

It gets in the way the same way the "drunk FX" got in the way of the cinematics in Max Payne 3.

Easily the best looking next-gen game, so far. By leaps and bounds.

it looks great, but ...

it looks fucking dope. love the premise, too. even the live-action component looks like a nice complement.

Looks totally bad ass....it is a game like this that might make me buy a X1.

purely graphics wise?

technically, no.

stylistically? i can see what you're saying [and would kind of agree].

pretty wowed that this was running on xbone [although, i was also wowed the last time we saw proper gameplay from this as well], but definitely not touching something like Horizon on a technical level.

They really do seem to nail the all times converging at one space effect.

Story looks intriguing

Hmm I wouldn't say that. Remedy are masters when it comes to high res textures which, when used properly, can convey great photorealism and hide some short comings polycount etch). But where QB seems to be the best so far is the character models a facial animation.

They went a bit too overboard with the "effects." It's so overdone it looks more intrusive than anything else. Gameplay doesn't look all that good either, and neither does the protagonist.

No, that goes to Naughty Dog. These are all actor's faces. NAUGHTY Dog games are mo-capped but character models are made up people. Nolan North and Drake do not look that much alike, same goes for Sully.

out of genuine curiosity what has looked better this gen on console?

Uncharted 4, Horizon.

I don't care about hiding poly counts or lower resolutions or whatever technical limitations Remedy's black magic voodoo is working in the background....just by visuals alone - artistic...stylistic - however you want to quantify it - that is the most impressive console game I've ever seen, and right now the only console I own is a PS4.

I think Uncharted 4 and Horizon look brilliant but this was completely jaw dropping. Made me want to go out and buy a XB1.

Was that gameplay on an Xbox One? The visuals look really clean.

Combat isn't setting me on fire and I wish they showed off some facial animations - the reveal vid had amazing face work so I was looking forward to more - but it looks like a head trip and an interesting place to spend some time.

The story might interest me but the gameplay sadly, does not. I probably won't be getting this. But that's more so due to shooters not doing much for me these days. Especially not with interruptive mechanics. I'm not a fan of what they are trying to do, but I can see why people like it.

I don't understand the purpose of using real actors. It's super uncanny and unnecessary.

Well, they have come a long way from Max Payne's lemon sucking face...

Visually in terms of actual assets and lighting? I would say released games the Order 1886 looks at least as impressive. On the horizon, Uncharted for has it beat in my opinion. This game is definitely up with those though.

This game seems really ambitious.

Its really sad that when you look at youtube coments and rating, 30% is negative, wtf is happening ? The game looks AWESOME, its from remedy, theres nothing bad about this game. Maybe some ppl dont like shooters but the game simply looks great.

Sorry about my english, still learning.

I would say this game is right there with those you mentioned.

take a closer look to the gameplay video.

just some things to notice:

There's no physics affecting most of the environment. It seems to be pretty static.
The IQ is noticeable worse than Uncharted 4.
The animations are not at the same level as those seen in Uncharted 4

and judging by the gameplay video, it doesn't look quite 1080p. I don't know if there's a confirmation of this.

just my two cents. It's an amazing looking game, but I'd put it next to Infamous: Second Son, if this one wasn't open world and trying to do so much stuff at the same time.
