Quantum Break Gameplay (Gamescom 2015)

Can you tell us anything about the gameplay when we're not shooting guys? Is there lots of exploration like in Alan Wake? Or is it more like Max Payne where the combat is the main focus?

We've got a mix of combat, story and adventuring - with some areas bleeding into one another. I'd say we sit in-between Max Payne and Alan Wake. We'd like players to discover secondary narrative components (world and character building for example) via a bit of exploration, but the levels aren't as vast as Alan Wake.

The two demos we've shown (GC 2014 and GC 2015) give a good indication of pacing / gameplay variety.

Some gifs from the high quality video. Shame it is so short.

Have they said what rating they're aiming for? I'm hoping for a T since I'm tired of constant profanity in these kinds of games, but I don't know. I saw blood from the enemies in the gameplay so it will probably be M.

Is that part of the weird time flashback we saw in the gameplay footage?

I utterly love the weird ripple effect that happens when times starts and stops.

I don't believe so, this is from that one casting video that was posted on the last page showing a game to TV transition or how the game effects the show.

Easily my most anticipated game, and I own all the systems. How anyone can say anything negative about this is beyond me.

Graphics are ace.

Combat seems fresh and varied.

Time mechanics are stunning and plentiful.

And the story already looks special and great!

Yeah i'm loving everything they show about this game.

Game looks great, and remedy has never let me down.

Those dashing enemies though... They look like they might not be that fun.

Thanks for taking the time, keep up the great work!

The effects are absolutely amazing and mesmerizing! But the gameplay looks so boring and mediocre :/

I agree. I think that the game looks uber-impressive graphically, but the gameplay just seems so derivative... it is a third-person shooter where you can play with time.

Made by Remedy.

Don't forgot the essential differentiator here: Made by Remedy.

Remedy sure did a lot of changes since their last demo. Between Scalebound, Crackdown 3 and QB, I think QB was the highlight of the conference. Microsoft needs to purchase Remedy games.

Its pretty easy to describe just about any game today as derivative in a negative sense by saying "it is a [insert game genre] where you [insert differentiation here]".

I've got TO1886 vibes, I mean: cinematic - shooting - cinematic - shooting.

All with nice graphics and effects. And always at the sunset, dawn (for the blue/orange colours) and night

Throw in a good story (Remedy is pretty good at these btw), and it completely changes things. 1886 was just a complete shower of shit.

No shit. Remedy are pretty much first party in all but name anyway. I don't think they could find the same deal anywhere else. They get bankrolled for 4~ years per project and get to make the criticially acclaimed games they want to make with seemingly unrestricted creative license.

I don't know why Microsoft doesn't just buy them out, but then Microsoft doesn't seem to even buy out studios they help create, fund and allow to work on their IP using their technology (see: Mistwalker, feelplus and Ruffian Games).

Just completely bizarre dealings imo.

Didn't know we had Remedy devs here on GAF. Cool to hear! And yeah, I'm not expecting Alan Wake vastness, so that's no biggie. I friggin' love how Remedy (and Starbreeze/Machinegames) do world and character building in-game, rewarding exploration and patience like an adventure game even if they're missable optional story rather than cutscenes.

My only worry right now is the prevalence of cover. I barely ever took cover in Max Payne and never in Alan Wake. For me, Remedy games have always been about moving around. Cover is, like, the opposite of that. D:

Otherwise, day one.

um, that's super cool of them, and it's awesome they do that. Buying devs and forcing them first-party sucks.

Yup, same concern. But that whole thing of staying in cover as stealth, slowing time down and zipping around to flank, seems like a cool feeling. Could be like Vanquish, hopefully.
