Witcher 3 Patch 1.08 will be releasing today. (Discussion/Impression Thread?)

Blackthorn

"hello?" "this is vagina"
Another Witcher 3 patch thread, another parade of people acting like the entire game takes place in Crookback Bog during a thunderstorm.

See you all again for 1.09!

The 20 fps locking issue during the bog combat scene in that Gamesyde stress test video appears, to me at least, to be caused by using double-buffering as it stays at that framerate regardless. If the game was not v-synced or using triple buffering then you would expect to see that framerate varying a lot more than it does there (it pretty much stays at 20 fps throughout with small dips above and below the line).

It is almost like the game is running with triple buffering outside of combat hence why we can see any numbers between 30 and 20 (sometimes less!) there but the engine switches to double-buffering, for whatever reason, in the bog.

Fantastic game without a doubt on both PS4 and PC (easily my favourite game of 2015 so far) but, in my opinion, no game in 2015 should be dropping down to 20 fps even if it is only for short periods in one particular area. CD Projekt Red should have optimised the game better in these locations, perhaps even used a dynamic resolution drop to 900p or whatever, reduced the transparency/weather effects, etc, to keep the framerate closer to 30 fps with triple buffering. It is not like they haven't had the chance to; this game has had seven patches on console!!!

Looking forward to you and other people downplaying the performance issues in the next thread as well!

They've all ready fixed a ton of quests but there are still plenty of quests to fix.
For me the "Soldier Statuette" quest is glitched, I'm at the "Final Preparations" quest and I talk to Triss about the statue, she takes Geralt to a place where she needs to decompress it but then just stands there and does nothing... talking to her does nothing.

They will probably still release couple of patches fixing quests and whatnot before the first big DLC hits. Hopefully most of these issues will be fixed by then.
Which then leaves them to fix all the broken quests in the DLC I guess >_>

For fuck's sake, I still can't talk to Roche!

I can confirm that the xbox one version has been fixed, going through swamps with bad weather or the menu is not a pain in the ass anymore.

Damn, I must be lucky then, I mean I can still notice some textures that takes like half of a second to load in cutscenes but only happened like 2 times since I started playing again this morning, everything else looks solid.

More playing on PS4 and its stuttering like crazy now in Novagrad and in the menus. Never been this bad for me before.

No texture issues to report though. Thats one of the issues I have managed to completely avoid.

If they removed the double buffering on XBO but not PS4 thats hilarious. Was expecting it to be removed on both platforms.

So no retroactive achievements on PC?! Profound sadness.

Just download Steam achievement manager to unlock the story based achievements or others you know you earned. Unfortunately it can be difficult to tell whether you earned some of the more progression based achievements from before, but it's better than nothing.

The constant nagging about the game's performance on the PS4 is mind-blowing on this forum. Absolutely mind-blowing. It seems there are people here who just argue for the sake of arguing. I dare to say it is almost in the region of trolling.

Do the people who complain about the PS4's outrageous performance realize that the framerate analysis since every patch is only in 1 region? The Swamp (Crookback Bog).

The game puts you in that region for a mere 2 hours story wise and after that there is absolutely no reason to ever set foot there ever again.

Sure, there is also Novigrad which has framerate and pop-in issues but that is prevalent on every platform so there is no need to constantly bash the PS4 for being 'weak' and so on.

In fact. Constantly stating that the PS4 is the 'weaker console' makes it seem you are willing to start a damn console war for an otherwise amazing game. Just stop it.

Whelp, Nidas is still dead by the time I reach the shore still for The Black Pearl quest.

I AM able to continue the quest now, though. The quest doesn't fail. It says return to Nidas even though he's just lying there dead. After meditating for five days he just respawned for me.

...just in case anyone else is still having problems...

So, after each newly released patch I go to the chest of the "The Dead Have no Defense" treasure hunt, to see if I can open it and finally complete the quest. Did it again yesterday and nope, still no chance to open the chest.

How is it possible that this issue still isn't fixed yet?

Performance getting worse to me, definitely. Different to the other, performance was fine except the horrible shadow bugged but after download the last ps4 firmware, fps getting the infamous 20 fps locked more often. Curiously before to update the ps4 firmware, performance were quite fine.

I just circumvented the whole thing by collecting the pearl before speaking with Nidas on the bridge. No big deal. That was a couple of days before the latest patch.

Another solution is to find the pearl before speaking to him.

That allows you to be there when the drowners spawn.

Same here for me with 'Don't Play with the Gods'. It used to show the chest is locked before but the recent patch made it so the chest gives me no prompts at all.

shit, I guess I could've saved myself a lot of trouble then.

I started the quest and saved mid-way through. When it was apparent I wouldn't be able to save him in time, I just left him standing on the beach and went off to do other quests, waiting to return. I was hoping I'd level up enough (even though I was very overleveled for the quest) or maybe find a formula to help me swim faster or something.

I did come up with some black pearls, but once he's on the beach, I guess you need to go diving.

Curse this limited amount of saves on console! I don't remember having to manage my save so closely on PC.

Does the game still run like shit on the 780?

I've put off buying because of the fact that the 960 out performs it.

Yes. I had to set shadows to medium and foliage to high, and I overclocked both the CPU and GPU to get decent framerate above 55fps. I am starting to see 60fps+ in good fps areas more commonly now, but inn at crossroads and Novigrad are still bad FPS places; you will still see dips to 49fps and 52-55fps in some settlements and parts of Novigrad.

The game is great, so I think that you should get it. It is Nvidia's freaking fault; even AMD cards are outperforming high-end Kepler ones.

Regarding broken quests, there are a lot of them that need fixing. There are two quests that I came across in Skellige where a chest wouldn't open, and another one (in Wolf's clothing) where you have to speak to an NPC yet the marker still stays there regardless if you talk to her. Redania's most wanted is still a misleading, inconvenient piece of crap;
if you missed giving Triss the crystal, give it to Yen after completing Last Wish side quest
.

I can only sympathize. I compulsively save my game every couple of minutes just in case something happens. Right now my save game directory is about 1gb because I almost always save to a new slot.

Saves files before 1.06 or 1.07 are incompatible with older ones. The game even warns you about it when you install that stupidly huge update.

Yeesh, I usually am a compulsive saver too, although I've been trying to keep it pared back in the Witcher 3 for some reason. I think I remember it getting out of hand for Witcher 2, but that might be that annoying auto-save thing. Still though, I have 165 save files in my desktop's save folder.

I think on Xbox One I'm limited to eight...
EIGHT!

Really? I haven't even noticed. Haven't had to load an old save game in a while. I guess I'll be freeing up some hard drive space then :)

Mate unfortunately it happens to most games around here.

I am looking at the Forza 6 thread and it appears to have now become a debate as to how good it is compared to Project Cars.

Back to the Witcher there were constant pop in issues on my PC as well, though annoying are nowhere near game breaking.

I uninstalled the game and will wait a year or so until they took care of most bugs and performance hickups. Technically it's still not in a state I can find enjoyable. I just don't have the tolerance for this anymore like I used to have.

Hopefully most issues will be resolved by then and allow for a playthrough that doesn't involve stumbling into bugged animations, broken quests and NPC popping in out of the blue and right before your nose.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I figure as a stopgap between Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk they'll re-release Wild Hunt with both the expansion packs and patches/DLC. Hopefully by then it's received enough tweaks to bring performance and optimisation up to a higher standard. Or if we're lucky they'll overhaul said re-release with the most up-to-date iteration of RED Engine 3, like Witcher 2's Enhanced Edition.

I'm really looking forward to playing this game, but I think I'll wait until performance is smoothed out and the bugs are fixed. I played Dragon Age Inquisition on launch and I loved the game, but it was marred by some nasty bugs some of which I really couldn't ignore. Bad performance is also an issue.
