Why are the mobile versions of the DQ games considered better than the DS versions?
IV is considered better on mobile because it has Party Chat, which was cut from the English DS version.

V and VI I would say are just as good. Though I'd take the DS version every time to have buttons.

VIII on mobile has no voice acting and no orchestral score. Losing the voices really hurts.

All of them have to be played in portrait orientation on mobile, I believe.

Are the mobile releases ports of the SNES games or are they remakes ?
They all are remade with the DS DQ engine (Except VIII) so they're not the original sprites.

There's something really funky with this and DQ:Builders, the monsters looks like they were superimposed on a background of some other game. Heck, everything looks strangely out of place to me for some reason.

Maybe its the black lines?
I agree, the art direction for the PS4 version is kind of an incoherent mess, IMHO.

Man its been a LONG time since I have been excited for a mainline DQ game

Looks fantastic. First the DW crossover now a high end console game, excite.

Getting Dark Cloud vives.

This game looks amazing. Please gaming gods, get this to the west else all western games should be cut off from Japan shores until this sin ends for AAA JPN games never localized!!

I really can't get behind the people saying the PS4 version looks "incoherent" or whatever. For me it looks absolutely gorgeous. Wouldn't have it any other way.

IV has the party chat, V has cleaner sounding music.

III I would recommend the Super Fami before the mobile. Enemy animations and alot of special effects for the story are just not there at all in the iOS version and it's a bit disappointing now that I've played through both versions in their entirety this past week.

Also V is best on PS2, I loved the DS version, but I just hit Gen 3 on V PS2 and I'm a believer, it's truly the best version, screw the extra waifu

I love the option of 3DS to play either version, will make repeated playthroughs great. That SNES style is so nostalgic. Man PS4 is looking mighty sexy, will be lazing on the couch with a bowl of chips just wandering through that world.

Looks good and DQVIII was one of my top five RPGs of the sixth gen.

Now if only there was a PC version so I could continue to have little reason to buy a PS4.

PS4 version looks beautiful, but I'm thinking maybe that image quality is a little too pristine.

Actually, the 3DS screens look too clean as well.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I expected it to look like a mess on PS4 when I saw 3DS listed as the other platform. Mind blown.

Cool.

I killed monsters until I reached level 5. The game reminds me of the original Final Fantasy in that I have no fucking idea where to go. Is it easy to get lost? I was planning on going in that cavern to the northwest of the castle.

It's the lighting inconsistency between the characters and the environment. They seem to be lit separately, for whatever reason.

Yeah the PS4 screens are definitely downsampled/supersampled. Not a single jaggy anywhere to be seen in any of them.

Incoherent mess = your eyes have a hard time dealing with IQ this good?
Honestly, the more I look at the screens, the more beautiful it gets. I genuinely don't see what these people are weirdly complaining about besides obviously having a far more detailed environment than any other DQ game in the past.

Don't even get me started on how they haven't even seen it in motion either.

The lighting, the textures, everything looks so spot on already I hope nothing changes. This art style is a dream come true. Making it look muddier and less detailed, like an upscaled 3DS game = instant hype killer.

Not sure which game you chose, but talking to your party members may put you back on course.

Looking forward to this more on 3ds. It just feels so right on a handheld. DQ 9 was one of my favorite games on the DS. Hopefully it makes its way here to the US.

I whinny my fervor lowly, for his length is not as great as those of the Hylian war stallions
They are?
Other than 4, because 4 mobile has party chat. Otherwise they're equal, controls notwithstanding.

Yeah, they would be, no question, the best versions if not due to the lack of gamepad support.

Thankfully I was able to setup emulated control, which enables me to use a ps3 controller to move around and basically auto battle with a 3rd party android app.

Could possibly be pre-baked lighting for the environments and dynamic for the characters. Tends to be a common way of doing things in UE

Wow haha, calm down man! Colour complements cover a spectrum of colours, so purple is yellow-green or yellow-orange, but the direct complement opposite purple on the colour wheel is yellow, without a doubt. It's basic colour theory.

What you're talking about is split-complementary. I was simply correcting the terminology. You're not totally incorrect, just the phrasing. Split-complementary colours together are less intense/ harsh as a direct complement, which is why it's often used in character design colours.

I'm sorry then for sounding rude. Thank you for correcting my poor phrasing!! It's always cool to learn/re-learn stuff the correct way. :D

So damn beautiful! Even the 3DS version is amazing
Im curious to see the battle system from this pic:

We "might" get something or a trailer around TGS... So keep an eye out around those times. :p

PS4 version looks amazing. Really liking the discrete UI.

While I like the dual art-style gimmick of the 3DS version, surely it's a waste of artist effort and memory on the 3DS to go that way,

I'm afraid that the discreet UI may imply that the MC might be the only character we'll play with across the entire game.

Now imagine Pokémon powered by UE4...

SE could recreate FFXV in EU4 too...

Based on what I've seen/played so far with the Duscae Episode, I don't see the point. The objectives with the Luminous Engine was to improve on the already established Lighting system they (SE) used for their previous projects to something closer to a PBR Lighting system and to push the fidelity of the character and environment models. Furthermore, if they were to change the engine "again" for FFXV, they would lose too much money on the project since its inception (Versus XIII).

A bit similar @@

I hate you. :p

I would love to see if they would add the outlines to the environment too - like Sega did it with Valkyria Chronicles. There is somoe uncanny contrast between character models and world.

PS4 version looks amazing... I really miss Dragon Quest VIII.... SE needs to release it on PC...please :(

Don't see that happening. As SE doesn't seem to see the need to release it on other platforms (for example PC or Xbox One) to make it profitable for them. Usually the creator of DQ chooses the "most" popular platform as the sole way to enjoy/play the new entry (in this case 3DS and PS4). Dragon Quest games are usually exclusive games, the reason why they are bringing the portable version only on 3DS (not Vita too) and the console version only on PS4, as they are only considering the NX version (for now. SE might be waiting to see if NX can gain a certain momentum or a good enough userbase and if it will be powerful enough to run UE4 to bring the game on it).

Lol no way that happens.

Weren't there any other Dragon Quest games where you only had the main character to play with?
