So, who's buying Mad Max next week?

Bootaay do you mind if I use a couple of the gifs for the OT? I wasn't going to have any gifs but seeing some of the combat and car stuff in motion gives a better idea than stills and words. lol

Think I might pick it up but I'm on holiday next week so will wait until I get back.

It's only £13.45 for the pc version from cdkeys.com :)

Sure, no problem. I'll try and get a few more of the car combat.

Well, yes... cuz it looks boring, uninspired, etc. at least in my eyes.

Okay, let's just forget that I am also a huge fan of the MGS series and look at the facts - MGS V has a very robust and diverse stealth, action and tactical gameplay, not to mention the fact that you can build your own base, manage your troops, send them to missions, upgrade weapons, gadgest, unlock new ones and so on. Now, that alone is enough for me to buy it (which I already did btw). As for the open world aspect of it... I don't know, it may not be great too, but just like I have said above:

...and MGSV has a lot of cool ideas/gameplay mechanics etc. that saves the game for me even if open world would not be great. I can't say the same thing about Mad Max and it's that simple.

Mad is not the right word, more like very disappointed that is.

Well, I am not forcing anyone not to buy or not to play the game, I just posted my personal opinion and that's it. If you guys like what you've seen so far then go ahead, good for you, who am I to tell you what to do and what to buy (^_^)

I already did just that above and pointed out everything I don't like and everything I like as exceptions. If that is not good enough/consistent opinion then I don't know what else to say.

Assassin's Creed games (pretty much all of them except ACII which is the best game in the whole series in my opinion), Shadow of Mordor, Watch_Dogs, inFamous series, Prototype series, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mercenaries series, Spider Man games and so on. I'm not saying that majority of games going open world, cuz they are not, all I'm saying is that the wast majority of them is boring and generic. And what also makes me sad is that more and more developers started copying gameplay mechanics/aspects of Ubisoft's games which I despise and can't stand (gameplay mechanics/aspects). If any developers out there is reading this right now - you only hurting your games and making them look boring, unoriginal and generic just like Ubisoft's games so please, stop!

Hey, fair enough. I think a lot of the quotes on your post wouldn't have happened had you just explained yourself better than just jumping in and saying story sucks and the world looks boring and then dipping out because reading ^ and your criticisms and I can't really say I disagree wholeheartedly. It is a growing genre with plenty of really terribly designed open worlds.

And I agree that going open world for the sake of going open world is a bad idea. Shadow of Mordor did not need to be open world, it's open world was the most mediocre part of that game. Infamous' open-world was terrible. Looked fantastic but just lifeless and dull. Prototype get's a pass in my book(though I played on PC where performance was never a problem unlike that shit-tastic PS4/XB1 port), simply because I had so much fun with movement and that game made you feel like a god once you've unlocked everything. I mean, you could quadruple power-bomb someone off a skyscraper, that's pretty bad ass. And yes, MGSV's mechanics look fuggin' fantastic and will probably be the reason that I'm most excited for it. Boss controls like a dream in GZ and apparently that's been improved even more since.

I think in MM's case, I'm more than willing to give it a shot because I'm such a fan of the character that's been established. And Avalanche has a pedigree of giving you great mechanics as tools to just do what you want, which I love. But I won't pretend that JC2 didn't have a big, giant ass open world with not much to actually do. I modded the shit outta my game when I played and had a blast, but I wouldn't have nearly enjoyed JC2 if I hadn't installed that superman mod.

I know my post looked like I was being a bit over-critical of ya, but that wasn't my intention.

I'm just glad for every 2/3 generic over/under-designed open world, we get a diamond in the rough, like Witcher 3's open world. That feels like you're transported to a whole new world that you can just completely lose yourself in.

Awesome!

I rate this one: Shiney and chrome.

Shit. 50% off on release? That's kind of nuts.

Par the course for PC games for the last 5+ years or so. It's nice gettin' some relief on ya wallet if you spend a lot of having a powerful machine.

I love open world games and spend a lot of time just stopping at each little scavenging location that pops up to explore and collect things. If you like collecting things in games then this game has definitely got you covered there and it tracks each individual location with what you're missing.

Just like Just Cause 2. I know a lot of people thought the game was empty and samey but I just thought zipping around and collecting stuff in the game was a relaxing, almost zen experience. I hope Mad Max feels the same.

here's a gif from one of the trailers they released...you're welcome to use it if you want

Yeah I preordered it.

While I can understand some not enjoying the Ubisoft map type open world games, I can't understand how someone could not want to run around in the MM wasteland ramming shit and generally being a badass.

Game looks like a ton of fun and I can't wait for next week!

Its really odd the hate this game is recieving.
The steam forum is riddled with poisonous threads from people who have no intention of playing/buying it trying to influence others not to buy it.

I dont really get it tbh. Is it just because its published by warner and perceived as some generic boring open world?

Anyways with no steam preload for mgs im looking forward to this to play before that and also as a quick pick up and play pallete cleanser between mgs sessions.

Its easy. They are pissed that Mad Max Fury Road is the better Action movie than their beloved Avengers.

And now they dont want a Mad Max game be better than their beloved Assassins Creed,MGS and other open world games.

I'm still balls deep into The Witcher 3 and there is no end in sight. I've been playing that game for almost 3 months now.

MGS V launches the same day as this, and I have every intention to start that game as soon as possible, possibly putting The Witcher 3 on hold. Fallout 4 launches November 11th and I'll probably not have finished MGS V and The Witcher 3 by then, so I'll be mixing up 3 masive open world games. Just Cause 3 launches in December as well.

I want to play Mad Max, but with 3, possibly 4 expansive open world games vying for my very precious time I'm afraid Mad Max will be the first to fall by the wayside.

Open world fatigue is real.

Mad Max will probably be shorter. Thats why im going to buy it.

A lot of it might come from Warner. Warner have fucked up their last two big pc releases quite badly and generated a bit (a lot) of bad will because of it.

It's the reason why this will be the first multi plat game in a long time I get on console instead of pc simply because I do not trust Warner to have made a competent port.

I wouldn't tbh take much stock in dark_inferno's console war answer. Assassin's Creed and MGS have not ever been massive pc franchises that have ever garnered the jealous defense that he is implying is the reason for the hate.

You took my answer seriously? It was a joke. But anyway... Even consoleplayers are saying this game looks like shit and nobody should buy it.

But even their most incompetent port wasn't locked at 30fps. I wouldn't pay money for that experience.

That's not really fatigue, though, just market saturation.
All of those games sound incredible also. This generation is just gonna get better and better, and it is already awesome.

WB doesn't make the ports. Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat X had garbage PC ports because they pawned them off to third party developers. That's not saying all third party developers do a bad job but in those cases they were awful ports. WB also published Shadow of Mordor and that PC port was great because it was made along with the console versions in-house by Monolith. Avalanche is working in-house on the PC version. They've confirmed that multiple times now and even stated it was the version that ran the best internally when it was tested. They even streamed the PC version a bit this week to show people how it ran.

I know Warner don't make the ports, they just publish. But as publishers they are the ones responsible for who does do the ports and so far the message they have sent to players is that they do not give a fuck about the pc.

I do not trust a Warner published game to be anything other than, at an most an acceptable pc port.

Has there been any update on the persistent horrible pop-in? Will it be there for release? It seems to happen everywhere.

Honestly, I don't know.

In all probability it is fine

But Warner published games don't get the benefit of the doubt with me anymore.

Just curious... grabbed this on PC. Even when i know i'll be busy with TPP i want to know the port is good. SO i guess we'll see.

I'll get it. Just maybe not right at launch. MGSV is out, Batman PC might actually be fixed by then, and I have Until Dawn and a bunch of other games in my back log. If it wasn't open world I'd probably not hesitate but I'm a little burned out by them.

Like many in the thread, I'm going to wait for reviews and impressions of the PC version before buying after the Arkham Knight debacle.

First impressions on Xbox One:
- intro and the part before you get your actual car is kinda okay I think
- seems to be 1080p, yes.
- framerate is also fine while the game looks really good.
- but there is something that makes the controls feel slightly slow, could be input lag. In menus it's much better. (Could also be that movement and driving has some weight attached to it.)
- car combat and fist combat feel both awesome and have good feedback
- some weird control scheme. Jumping is on LT, aiming on LB, shooting on B.
- no gamma control :(
- but a quite huge selection of audio presets: cinema, tv, rage (makes everything louder), headphones and night (made for low volume)
- German version has only German subs
- you can drive in first person (double tap down on the d-pad)

That's it so far. Haven't seen enough of the rest yet.

Thanks. Other than the control scheme, it sounds great. Are there options for that?

Wrong.

I love Fury Road. Best action movie I've seen since ... I dunno ... T2 I think.

What I do not love are generic checklist open-world games with Ubisoft-style world-design (so much for your "they love AC!" argument as well).

As far as intensity of the experience goes, Fury Road is pretty much the antithesis of the game. No bloat, just meat.

Hopefully no one on PC. Warner Bros is 0 for 2 on big releases

Honestly, I feel bad for Avalanche here.

WB definitely deserve the distrust over PC releases, but whereas Batman Arkham Knight was developed by IronGalaxy, who did an awful job, Mad Max was done in house at Avalanche.

Likely it's perfectly fine. If it's a solid port, I hope good word will get out once people start playing it.

The photo mode is pretty cool. You can use all the photo settings also within the video mode and you can even plugin a second controller let another person control the recording and angle etc... You will need to record your stuff through the Xbox dvr or screenshot feature though.

Eh, would have been better if LB and LT were the other way round, but I'm sure I'll get used to it anyway.

Gifs are real good. I absolutely don't need another game right now, especially a wb-published pc release.

...but those gifs!!!

I might need to get this.

I'm not planning to buy it right away, but I'll follow the OT & see how I feel about it

I think the reason is that you won't be shooting your guns very often, outside of sniping that is, as ammo is supposedly very very limited. We'll see. It does seem a silly decision though.

The previews I watched made this look sort of like Shadow of Mordor for the Mad Max IP, only with vehicular combat as the hook instead of the Nemesis System.

Accurate, or no?
