What the hell is up with that grass? Start of the gif looks like it's from Skyward Sword or Wind Waker or Kameo or something.

Nope. Campaign is hermetic in that regard. Just MP. And gameplay affecting things only in Warzone. Aesthetics in Arena.

Too bad - would have been cool to find weapon variants in the environment / take them from some enemies.

The grass doesn't cast shadows and there is no ambient occlusion applied to it.

Frankie, can you have the BR with DMR scope in Arena? I'm assuming not, but I don't know if those weapons can have their "powers" turned off and keep the cosmetic look in Arena.

Is Frankie still around? I haven't seen him comment in past few days.

Probably requested a ban.

Has Warzone Assault been talked about before? This interview with Tim Longo mentions the game mode. It is still 12 v 12 with no AI and is an Attack/Defend game type: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BsXLALRv-8

Sounds interesting. Give me a Warzone Infection mode, where players all start on one team against A.I and if they die, they spawn as an enemy player.

Edit: They always said it was 12v12 no A.I. Could they not bump up the player count if the A.I is missing?

It would have to be in a seperate playlist, because you can't have different player sizes in the same playlist. I don't think they want to split the Warzone playlist (and playerbase), because of that.

So you cant ground pound vehicles, well that was a missed opportunity. We would have some amazing montage videos.

I believe it was said before you can ground pound vehicles. If I am remembering correctly, a single ground pound will not destroy a Warthog with full health (but if it has been damaged a bit, then I can imagine a ground pound from a good height will blow the shit out of it).

I'd imagine the explosion of the vehicle would kill the ground pounder too. Suicide pounding.

I think i read somewhere that you wont be able to veto maps on H5, I may be wrong though.

Huh wtf. So after a match we'll be thrown into the MP screen again where we have to select a MP mode? Cause that's how it worked for me in Halo 4 MCC. And i don't see the point, let it simply continue into the next map.

Oooh wait, i explained it the wrong way. It's not that i'd want to vote on maps perse, but more that the map rotation just continues. But for some reason in Halo 4 in MCC it throws me back to the main MP menu. Not being able to vote is actually DAMN good really.

I asked Frank in another thread and he said you can. But said something about it being physics based, and that it also depends on vehicle health. I asked whether you could ground/pound threw a banshee and he said you would either just bounce off it, or if it was low health and hit at a good angle, you could destroy it.

The playlists rotate. You just sit there and it carries on, asfaik.

I'm currently going through Halo CE on Heroic, to play it before 5 is out.

As an experienced Halo player, man is it easy. Especially in co-op.

I've always sucked at the Halo campaigns. Only played through each game once or so. Just finished Halo: CE on Heroic solo (gonna try to make it through all the campaigns before launch) and it wasn't that easy for me. There were a couple places it took me like 10 tries to get past. My playstyle is so much more geared toward multiplayer, I have no patience haha.

This would have been far too easy IMO as cool as it sounds. People would complain. I wouldn't. I prefer vehicles to be weak but that's because I don't use them.
Edit; or maybe you can it just depends on the scenario? No one hit kill fixes my issue I guess.

I too recently started the campaigns before the release of h5 and I'm having trouble on normal. Playing solo is hard. I get to start the library today. I'm fucked.

Why are people saying you can't ground pound vehicles when that guy's timing in the gif was clearly not perfect? He barely missed his mark. If you can jump over and even land on top of vehicles, then you can surely ground and pound them also, even if you don't do very much damage.

I'll be interviewing 343 Industries' Design Director Kevin Franklin tomorrow. Any burning questions that anyone would like to ask?

  • Can you use Legendary weapons/Warzone only weapons in custom games?
  • Any word on theatre mode and file sharing?
  • How many missions does the Campaign have, and did they opt for long and fewer or short and numerous missions?
  • Do the community features such as speedrunning/par times return in Halo 5? (Anything in MCC that isn't MCC specific not in Halo 5?)

Unless Frankie comes back and answers before the interview, ask if the different scope options are available in Arena.

I'm almost positive they won't be. Reason being: Different scopes seem to actually affect the spread of a weapon. Meaning if you have an AR with 4x zoom but the reticle stays the same size (assuming the weapon is firing within the reticle which would make sense), then the area the reticle is actually covering is smaller and therefore the weapon is more accurate.

Man I just saw the Gametrailers Preview for Halo 5 multiplayer. I really disagreed with them. But anyways, because the lack of BTB at launch I really think reviewers are gonna knock some points off.

I thought maybe they could disable the different behavior, and just let people use the scope they like. I don't care personally, but I figure there's a large portion of players who want that ACOG BR over the horn sight.

I don't understand that complaint; while Warzone is not BTB they are somewhat similar and I'm sure Warzone will scratch that itch until BTB releases.

I've always thought of BTB as large scale battles with many vehicles, generally with an objective basis. That is basically Warzone, except for the REQ system and AI bosses.

This one? If so I agree, I like it better than the horn sight. However, my guess is they're trying to limit the BR's range in arena so it doesn't overlap with the DMR functionally. It's already arguably the most well-rounded weapon; if the scoped magnification was higher it could cause some balance issues (even if the spread wasn't reduced).

Can you ask him if there are still cool go outside of map glitchs in campaign? If there are, tell him to NOT patch them ffs

Ground pound into cockpit and instantly hijack a Phaeton will be awesome.
Head canon for ground pound

While there are out of the normal route "vacations" for certain things such as skulls, the game has return to the battlefield signs, which means out of map exploration will be difficult/impossible.

I was playing Destiny last night and we got to talking Halo and someone brought up a great point I didn't think of much. After playing Destiny, some folks are leery of having to use the same old BR, AR, Pistol combos. Destiny really has spoiled us with variety of weapons. Halo does need to mix it up.

Whilst I think the variety in Destiny is a little oversold (75% filler weapons, the remainder, whilst shiny and all that, are not strikingly different from one another within their class; then again, I've always though the endgame horizontal progression of collecting all the guns is utterly tedious, horses for courses), Halo 5 looks, at least, to have diversified the guns better than any previous Halo. Every game has of course introduced lots of guns, but in 2, 3, Reach and 4 the rifles dominated everything. In 5, they probably will again, but at least now the basic range of weaponry is a) more functionally useful and b) particularly with Promethean weapons, actually a little distinct from UNSC ones.

Warzone seems to be doing a job and a half of that. On the Arena side, there might be something to that complaint, though the Hydra and Plasma Caster are kinda out there.

I don't know. I feel the same way. But when you have 4 previewers from GT saying they miss BTB and Warzone feels "off" or "weird", I dunno.

I think Halo 5 is shaping up to be great. My only concern is enough unique maps in Warzone and BTB.

Warzone will have way more weapon variety than any other Halo. But I could still see the concern, Destiny does have more attachments and different weapon characteristics. At the same time though, some of that weapon diversity is pretty deceptive. Weapons can have varying fire rates, accuracy, range, ammo types, and mag sizes but in the end a lot of them still feel very similar to shoot. Scout rifles for example; they all felt almost exactly the same to me. In other words most of the weapons don't have characteristics that make it feel like an entirely different weapon.
