New Star Wars Battlefront Coverage (Oct 5)

A voice of reason in the darkness.

But nah. It's 2015. We expect blah blah blah.

People wanted Battlefront back. We got some Battlefront back and we get to play it on Thursday. People see some footage and want to turn it into Battlefield...when people were getting tired of Battlefield! =x
Exactly. People have been spoiled by feature creep and bloated games and expect a carrot for every action they perform.

Older games weren't like that, Battlefront wasn't like that, and this game won't be like that. I am thankful for that.

Having recently played SWBF2 again, this new game looks nearly perfect.

Hero mode looks a bit janky. It always was so I don't really see that as a problem. It still looks like a lot of fun. Only a few days until the beta to try it out now anyway.

Hah, well - I stand by it. I don't remember any automatic fire in the original three movies, especially not with that rate of fire and that accuracy. Most shots were semi-auto, or at the very most a burst of fire. People have been upset that Battlefront 3 would be a Battlefield clone, but when I see those gunplay mechanics, I sure wish it was.

The original trilogy isn't the only part of Star Wars canon. Automatic weapons are shown dozens of times in The Clone Wars series so they're definitely canon, clone troopers regularly carried around blaster miniguns.

Exactly, we are getting what was promised by Dice, nothing more, nothing less. In my opinion a few janky animations isn't going to put me off buying and playing a solid looking game.

People saying it looks like BF4 are just fuelling people's hunger to play the game. If this is as good as BF4, which it looks to be then I'm a happy man.

I'm not saying it isn't canon - just that it doesn't really "feel" Star Wars. Regardless, if you could choose between a gun that has a high rate of fire with 100% accuracy, or one with a low rate of fire with 100% accuracy, you'd always choose the high ROF. It just doesn't make "sense" from a gameplay or "realism" standpoint.

Wow.... Hero mode looks so terrible. Not feeling the game overall atm we will see what happens with the beta but man this games seems like it needs more time in the oven. Hopefully the "beta" build is old and things of been improved.

Looks bad, but this is a risky game to pre order. No secret that EA will release it before the movie, terrible or not.

I doubt it will be terrible. Will it live up to peoples huge expectations?

I have a bad feeling about this.

personally I think its going to be very fun.

People saying it looks janky.... have you played any of the Battlefront games? It looks like Battlefront.

I think the mouse movement is what is making it look janky to me..

I think it's the 3rd person. 3rd person movement in a game that's an FPS focus will never translate all too well. And that Saber combat won't translate well. Sure it'll be serviceable but that's it.

For whatever reason, the first person videos looked a lot more polished that the third person ones.

I feel like a lot of the criticisms this footage is getting stems from comparing it to other shooters rather than looking back at how the first two Battlefronts played. Vehicle and Hero tokens aside, this looks like a great iteration of an average (gameplay-wise) series of games.

I am a huge Star Wars fan so I played the life out of the old games and probably will do the same with this but even I recognize that the previous Battlefronts didn't have great gameplay and definitely had some frustrating mechanics. Especially when playing BF2's Heroes and Villains. Third and first person shooting/piloting look good imo, Luke and Vader gameplay looks just as awkward as BF2 but with better visuals that serve to really bring out the jankiness in their movements.
I obviously can't speak for everyone but the biggest criticism that I and many others have comes about regardless of how close to the originals the gameplay is, and that's the overall amount of content in the game. The new Battlefront falls very short when compared to the amount of content in Black Ops 3 and Halo 5 but even comparing the game to Battlefront 1 and 2, it falls very short in terms of content.

Battlefront is launching with half the maps of Battlefront 2, no Space Battles, no Galactic Conquest, no campaign, and no custom servers. That's where the majority of the complaints are. It doesn't matter how close it is to how the original two games played if it's worth less than its price tag compared to both of those games.

IMO multiplayer "features" and bloat are different than content. The bloat that's seen in most multiplayer games today is such a turnoff for me. I really enjoy the simplicity of the new Battlefront, one of the biggest reasons why I'm still excited for it. But at the same time, I'm afraid that the game isn't launching with enough maps and game modes to justify the price tag.

Yeah, I've noticed it for a while but it's even more clear here. The game looks substantially better in first person.

I didnt necessarily want BF4, but i wanted more realism so to speak. I would have liked it if they took what BF4 did well and incorporated that into this game. Only thing that seems to have made it, is the engine.

still looks very similar to Battlefield which isn't a bad thing, but the movements and graphics are so similar it's hard to ignore...

Meh. I'm really not liking the power ups scattered all over the place. It just doesn't fit this type of game imo. I was hyped for this game earlier but now idk. The beta is going to have to be amazing for me to change my mind.

it looks unfinished as hell, the janky animations, barebones hud, clipping problems and it's releasing in 1 month?

Look at any video other than the jackfrags vader and Luke gameplay.

Those are literally the only animations that look awkward. Even the other Vader and Luke gameplay doesn't look as bad as that.

the First Person mode looks amazing. 3rd person. The animations are always going to be a bit weird in a game focused on first person.

The HUD is a bit amateurish but that doesn't mean anything is broken.

I prefer powers up scattered around the map to killstreak rewards personally.

Come on, I don't think you're seeing the bigger picture here. How are they supposed to sell you extra content, season passes, and premium DLC if they include a reasonable amount at launch? Have some consideration for a proper fleecing why don'tcha.

/s. Seriously though, I'm expecting lots of premium DLC. If the gameplay is gripping and fun enough to be long-lasting I will support but I agree, launch content is thin.

You were always going to get that no matter how much content was at launch though.

As much as I love that we can actually see our character, it's clear that first person is the way to go. Man it would so damn suck if the game is a huge let down. I really really want this one to be good. I'm sure we all do.

Looks a bit underwhelming and boring. I'm not excited at all. They've got the look and sounds but it amounts to nothing I'm desperate to play. It harsh to say it's a mod, they've probably put a lot of work into it but comes across that way to me. It feels like they've got the main goods but dumped it in random textured place a, b and c with little effort game types. It's basic.

I jumped halfway into Jack Frags video hoping he would go first person. Who the hell would play 3rd person???
