Frankly I hate your negative attitude. I don't see why you're making this harder than it needs to. You can have sales thread with some regular talk in it. You quote someone when they ask a question and they'll see they were answered. If we talk about future games and such they become informed of upcoming developments to steam. Right now all I'm getting from you is negativity for the sake of negativity, you don't want it to work or give it a chance just because you don't want to.

funny thing is that he benefits the most out of more steam members coming out of the woodwork since it's more people to sell cheap steam codes to.

he's working against his own interests lol

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Sorry guys, the weirdos have seen through your thinly veiled attempt to get normies to post in here.

For thread close talk, confirmed this thread will be closed, and we've been asked and told its fine to advertise the Steam Community thread as a way to introduce some new blood to the Order of Dago-Err, Steam Community Thread.

Just curious, who decided that and what was the reasoning?

Dunno, derailing a dedicated sales thread doesn't seem like a good idea. PSN sales threads aren't full of people trying to win people over to the PSNGAF thread while closing the PSNGAF thread at the same time. And neither should they.

They close the Bombcast OP each time there's a new Bombcast thread on the gaming side? News to me.

You know, you can get the link to here posted on the sales thread...without closing this one. GENIUS!

You know, even if nabs and dogg can't even move without spilling their disdain, Jawmuncher delivered good arguments. There is nothing to lose and things to win. Surely a lot of people don't know about the Steam Thread and it's an opportunity to get visibly in Gaming for a while with a thread were people get easily in, since it's inherently topic oriented, even if we as a community be the ground of it.
Things to lose: this thread getting locked. Things to win: literally nothing that wouldn't be won without locking this one.

Seriously this is the only analogy that is needed. With no dailies/flash sales this sale isn't any different from any bigger PSN sale.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Just curious, who decided that and what was the reasoning?

Stump is the one that decided that. I believe his reasoning was that the sale thread basically became the community thread v2 during the last sale because of the lack of daily deals and general engagement on Valve's part. He felt like we should all post in the sale thread as we normally do in this one, be as helpful as possible when questions are asked, and let people know that we usually have a regular monthly thread on community side if they'd like to join us. I think his reasoning is sound.

Of course, nobody is forcing anyone to post anywhere. If you feel like it's a dumb idea to lock this thread, you're welcome to wait until Jan 1 when MRORANGE makes the January thread back here in the community tab.

I don't really see it as the same circumstance. A PSN sale is a week tops, usually only the weekend flash deals get a big thread on PSN. Steam is just a different circumstance than all the consoles on GAF. No one is saying we need to go in there and push and constantly inform people to come to SteamGAF. Since steam encompasses so much, our talks of PC games will be relevant even in a steam thread. "Oh I wanna get one piece", "maybe you should wait the port isn't good and the newer game is on its way". Some actually involvement in the sales thread with us to freshen things up isn't a bad thing.

We can still use the other thread like we use this. And no, if we have two, some will just stay here and the sheep be alone with too few shepards, ready to be taken by the wolves.

The last sales threads on gaming where not bad. Not sure what the fuss is about closing this temporarily. It's a short time and the occasion is worthy to me. Seeing all the same faces with all the (seemingly) same posts gets boring after a while. I welcome and cherish new people. Looking forward to making new friends.
So they actualy did it :D
I know some Dogg who's gonna be happy about this :)
I mean it can't be any worse than the new influx of peeps from Summer Sale 2014. Can it?
....that's when I came (technically spring '14). I'll just silently stay in my corner and die a little inside ( ._.)
Just took my last final. Everyone died a little inside after that one...
Sorry to hear. I know that feeling.
(I unbanned Salsa early)
(now unban modbot's true ai capabilities)
;)

I definitely starts the discussion with Stump, but there were plenty of other people involved as well.

Objectively raises interaction with new users (source: influx of new users after past sales threads).
Raises mindshare of the community thread existing.
Sales thread renders this thread redundant. I don't see a world where you are incapable of continuing on going discussions in a sales thread, we've don't it for years.

That particular argument is technically a fallacy and not a very strong argument to stand on. Dog also posted the counterpoint which not only shows evidence that would disprove that position, but also why you shouldn't use those arguments in the first place.

If you guys are so serious about this, than hang out in the SteamGAF chatroom, Mumble, Skype, Hanouts, etc for a few days. It's only temporary.

Those CS:GO sales numbers are mind-blowing. You've got to figure it will be one of the biggest sellers in the winter sale too, so easily 6 million sales this year alone. No wonder it never goes below half off now. And to think, on release, the game was in many ways a flop.

Some of the other numbers are actually lower than I expected. Would have thought Fallout 4 would be at 3 million by now considering the week one numbers. Dat New Vegas long tail though.

Edit: sales thread will be dominated by metagame talk. Believe!

I dont get what the discussion is about. Closing this thread and opening one on gaming side?

Yes, and promoting both the derrailment of a dedicated sales thread and trying to bring people over to a thread that is closed. This makes sense somehow.

It ain't a fallacy. PSN is a digital downloads store. So is Steam. Both have sales. Both have community threads. Done.

Something we've done since the start of time. We promote this thread by simply being good, informative posters. Since everything is on sale, we can focus on discussing great deals and great games. I am trying real hard to see the argument here.

A technical question about the client. I edited some files to get zero space between tiles but on every start of the client I have to redo the zoom. Is there any config file I can edit so that it starts at a certain zoom? Pretty mundane stuff but I'd appreciate not having to do the same thing every time I open steam.

Point 1 and 2 happen without closing this thread and point 3 isn't true, at least for the sales with dailies/flash deals. Might be different this year.

What did Dogg post? The Giantbomb links? The GB community thread doesn't get locked. I honestly have no idea what you're talking about.

It worked in the past, time and time again. I think a lot of active users here joined during some sale time and then migrated back into the regular Steam Thread.

So, this thread being open would make being good, informative posters on the sales thread impossible? That makes no sense at all and i'm not seeing the argument there either.

Mindblowingly, that can be done without closing this one.

See you on the other side... of the forum.

Edit. Oh wait, there's still some time left... this is a bit uncomfortable :p

I find it cute that people are hoping to attract non-anime fans. JP games on Steam are just starting, it'll only get worse.

Next time there's a specific Anime-themed sale I hope the community thread gets locked in favor of the sales thread. Seems only fitting really.

Actually yes. Closing this one brings people to the other thread to make it more lively and give it a lot of people with basic and advanced knowledge to help new ones with their questions.

Things is: no it doesn't. The sales thread will be full of people being able to help new people with questions even if not a single of us posts there. We're not that special guys. You won't change what the sales thread will be. You won't make any more people come here than you would with this thread closed. Hell, if you intend to just fill the sales thread with what would be community talk, all you will be doing is turning people off.

One nice thing about Dailies/Flash being absent is that there is no "pressure" to wait for re-rolls of deals. You just slowly take a look on frontpage, promoted games, your wishlist and read on some un-promoted recommendations here. Later ones I missed a bit though.

If the rumor is true that we can gain Steam holiday cards from browsing our queues, I'm going ham. Want to craft as many as I can.

There's no more converting so it might as well be left as is at this point. You either don't care where we go, like the idea of this getting locked, or think it's the worst thing to ever grace SteamGAF. Doesn't really matter since it'll be locked regardless.

All I can ask is that those people who feel so strongly against the idea don't purposefully try to sabotage anything, Insome ill-mannered attempt to prove a point.

Except we already know UbiSoft manipulated the system, and other companies no doubt will as well. But it does mean catalog titles can be bought day one, which is nice.

It's gonna be one per day. Pretty sure the leak said that, but even if it didn't, it will be one per day, guaranteed.
