I see. Maybe they think that based on the GPU comment? But it would be interesting to know. Doesnt seem that they're going to release the exploit, but it would be cool to know.http://wololo.net/2015/12/30/linux-...-linux-running-on-the-ps4-run-a-pokemon-demo/
There is no definite answer to this, but it's a possibility that you need a piece of hardware for it.
Those hoping for a cheap Steam machine, forget it. You would need GPU drivers which won't happen.

Yeah, and plus Steam Machines that beat the PS4 in visuals/framerates aren't even much more expensive than it. The Alienware Alpha/Steam Machine (but get the Windows/Alpha version, you lose 30-50% of your performance without Windows) frequently go on sale at or a bit below PS4 price. The 860M and i3 beat the PS4s performance more often than not.
I really hope they touch on why the security is bad. I think on PS3 it wasn't generating a random number when it should or something ridiculous?
The Wii conference they did about the password on the drives still kills me.
The /proc/cpuinfo and lspci dumps were interesting.
Haven't watched the video yet, but it looks like someone added a comment to make the number random, but then never committed any code and left it to be 4 every time? Amazing.I remembered right about the PS3!
If anyones interested, this is still a really good wtach on exactly how they got through to the PS3.

lol figured it was a representation or recreation. I'll watch the video now. That's xkcd, not their actual code lol (see the comments for it to be obvious...Chosen by random dice roll!)

Yeah, that is what I mean.I think they mean using the built-in PS2 emulator, like they did on PS3 with CFW.
Hahaha, holy shit if true!
"Fail0verflow hint at critical bugs in the southbridge of the GPU, but do not give more details on the exploit in their presentation, besides “NOP Command is broken on the GPU”."
I figured the exploit will be found by exploiting secondary chips that were created for PC market and use driver code from decades ago.
That reminds me of another neat possibility. The PS4 PS2 emulator could theorically be ported to PC.I think they mean using the built-in PS2 emulator, like they did on PS3 with CFW.
Microsoft is the software company of the two while Sony is the hardware one, I wouldn't be surprised if the Xbox was more difficult to crack.
You mean like impenetrable Windows OS?
The /proc/cpuinfo and lspci dumps were interesting.
By making it not behave like a nop should do? Hopefully we will here more about it soon. How about that NOP GPU trivia, eh?
How do you break a NOP opcode?

it's a big thing ? What can lead to ?
Hint: the NOP thing has nothing to do with exploits and everything to do with https://t.co/P3OJCHrEtr
What does that mean? Linux problem or easier to access the GPU drivers? The nop comment has nothing to do with the exploit, they clarified it in a tweet
https://twitter.com/fail0verflow/status/682283793831587840?s=09
I have no idea why people would think that would be related to the exploit. How about that NOP GPU trivia, eh?

Are there any advantages of doing that compared to "normal" code? Or what is the difference?Perhaps injecting code through gpu because of huma?

Sony is going to patch out the web browser now and Jeff Rigby is gonna be super sad.

(Hint: you don't get to send commands to the GPU until after you've cracked open the system)
Still don't understand why people do this.

Opensource community could help with that.
Do what? Exploit/Hack consoles?
Piracy.
Homebrew.
Linux.
Power to do what you want with your own damn hardware that you own.
Freedom to Tinker.
Science.
Cryptography.
Computer Security.
That's a short list.
Didn't say I was against it (apart from the piracy and using cheats in games). But why not do it on a PC?
Just once CFW PS4s are banned as soon as they go online then I don't really mind. Might pick up a second PS4 for offline modding and homebrew.
Can't wait for fully upgraded Destiny players online.
Getting beaten by a single Hadoken on Street Fighter V
Infinite wall running in BLOPS 3
Still don't understand why people do this.

If I were a company like sony I would make the console break itself permanently as soon as its tampered with. lol
Send it in for repairs for free. What if there would be a bug in the official FW and all the updated consoles would be bricked?
Hooo boy...
Hopefully there will be more info regarding it Personally i dont really care that much about the functionality (i feel that a PC can do it better), but i find it interesting to read about the techncal aspect of these hacks.I don't know but perhaps it's a way to circumvent nx protection so making it easier to inject code but that is only a wild guess, of course.
