The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

Did you even have a chance to watch the video before posting that?

Game looks good. Still not sure about the combat, since it seems like you're mainly just staying behind one piece of cover for the entire fight, but looking forward to checking it out during the beta.

Yeah the combat didn't excite me much. And the guy playing should have been killed at least twice. Hope it's on easy mode.

Don't pass gaas, it is your Destiny!
Man loving these vids, really does look like a destiny like game, considering that's been my fav game for the last 2 years I can't wait!

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Heres my issue with the visuals.

Of course we all knew that it was being shown on a high end PC but that being said so far this generation what we have been getting on consoles is the equivalent of HIGH settings on the PC. That makes it so that the visual leaps between the PC reveals and the Console reveal isn't such a massive difference.

This looks like Medium settings at best and some Low settings at worst. It doesn't even really look like the same game.
It's a very large recreation of Manhattan with tons of geometry, weather effects, a day/night cycle and some pretty good effects for stuff like explosions. There's also stuff like realtime reflections that you can see in the Jackfrags video. Getting it to look this good while maintaining performance, (note there are drops), which likely very difficult. There's a complete uncompressed video of the alpha in the last thread and you can tell just how detail is lost in these videos.

Rightfully so...Do you like to settle for less?
Witcher 3 trailer came out and everyone was like woah

Witcher 3 xbox one footage came out and everyone was like DOWNGRADE

Then Witcher 3 was released on PC still downgraded but people stopped talking about it

Jackfrags mentioned there were around 15 story missions.

That's quite worrying.

There is a lot more going on in the game than just main story stuff. I've been saying for awhile don't sleep on this game. Its my most anticipated game this year and this is not based on videos.......................

Combat, shooting more specifically, just looks incredibly bland...

And being "designed as a MP experience" but also being a "great single player game!", yea, heard that one before. We'll see I suppose.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.

Do you have a link to the post/video?

I would love to see a better footage of the game.

I'm afraid for this game. I still want to try it out once we get the beta, but gameplay-wise it feels like a museum exhibit.

How on earth does "youtube" counter any discussion of a downgrade when people are comparing this youtube footage to earlier released youtube footage?

Shooting is designed to be a TPS with RPG elements. It can't be a pure shooter because that doesn't work in an RPG setting.

The game can be played completely solo and teaming up really only helps finishing random stuff around the city and will dramatically help you in the DZ. You can enter DZ by yourself, but you shouldn't try and take down higher level players solo unless you are massively overleveled and can ambush them.

Not understanding the people moaning about "bullet-sponge" in this game. It's open world with pvp and you want people one-shotting you? Yeah, no. You need to get rid of some realism in games in order for it to be fun and balanced.

Its not about realism. But enemies being bullet sponges takes away from the fun rather than adding it. Most of this game will probably be PvE and shooting an entire magazine into someone just does not give any satisfaction. It enables the grind loot cycle, but that has never been fun for me and I personally think its even less fun in a shooter, where you want that instant feedback even more.

To be honest, its kinda stupid to criticize a game for something its clearly not. Its a shooter RPG and I dont like those. Simply isnt made for me.
Also, I dont like the HUD as well. It was the first thing that I noticed, which is usually a bad sign. There are even simple mistakes like showing your ammo count and health all the time, even when out of combat. But then again, I cant remember the last time I have seen a really tastefully done HUD in a Ubi game.

Graphics are fine. Its what is to be expected. Would have been close to a miracle if the game looked that much better than anything ever released on these consoles.

lol Ubisoft and their huds

Was thinking the same thing. It has gotten obnoxious now and has a negative impact on the graphics.

In any event, there has been a visual downgrade and the gameplay itself is doing nothing for me. It looks like a game I've played a thousand times before.

depends on the amount of side stuff. Same as in a game like far cry 4. While tedious at times, there are a ton of side quests content etc

There is a good bit of side stuff and they have included base building and stuff into the game. Its an MMORPG TPS, but you can be solo the entire time. They have proximity chat in the game so you can party up or just plain work with others as you go along.

The only PVP area is the DZ which contains a lot of higher level gear, but you must extract it to use it. When you go to extract gear a helicopter and timer start and all other players in the area are notified. During that 1:30 other players may come kill you or they may just come and extract their stuff as well. One of the tensest moments is when a few players show up at your extraction zone and you have no idea if they are coming to kill you or just extract as well.

If they kill you, they have gone rogue and they are put on everyones hud with a countdown timer, other agents can kill a rogue without going rogue themselves. The best thing to do is try and run if you've gone rogue.

Fallout 4 has 11. Numbers means nothing without context.
You're right, but the mission I played through in the alpha wasn't exactly lengthy.

From the alpha, it just seemed like the typical Ubisoft side-objectives. Elite enemy here, friendly NPCs need help here, a worthless collectible over there, etc. Nothing too exciting really.

If I remember correctly FC4 had 28 main campaign missions, along with the "quest giver" missions and the outpost side content. It'd be nice if The Division had the same amount, but I'm starting to get a bit worried.

Can't tell anything from visuals as it's youtube but that game looks boring as hell to me. Maybe it was the person playing? Staying in one bit of cover and shooting isn't a good way to showcase a game.

I hope they were playing on Easy because if the player isn't in the enemy's line of sight to start with, they never switch targets. The guy is shooting them from the side or behind and not once did an enemy turn to target the player. Just kept moving on their pre-assigned path. Terrible AI.

The majority are likely only watching the one video in the OP, (which needs to be updated), which is only 720p.

Exactly what I was thinking.

I'm sure this is also the same engine used.
You'd be very very wrong.

Yeah, we need more variety. Go to the laundromat and clean your clothes. Cook dinner for your squad mates. Play board games at your base. I want it to be more like real life and less of a game.

I was one of the people who had a chance to go hands-on with the game at the event.

I did a more personal-slanted preview write-up talking about the reasons I'm now excited for the game, which I am. I was already interested in it, but a lot of things just really hit all of the right buttons for me. Of course, like any game, there's the concern about how it'll hold up in the long run, especially the whole Dark Zone idea.

I captured a bunch of footage, but I'm still going through it. Going to have one video going up a bit later today, and then some more following that. And I can try to answer questions if anybody has them.

Witcher also wasn't Ubisoft.
Neogaf peeps love to shit on Ubisoft games without giving them a chance these days.

Well yeah, but I mean in normal conditions not when your are fighting low level enemies and your are using a high tier sniper rifle.

No. It's like Mass Effect, Destiny, Borderland, a headshot will do more damage, but you won't one shot most things with a headshot.

It's also an RPG. Misconception that it's a shooter due to the early marketing. The game is an RPG with shooting and MMO elements. More Borderlands than Call of Duty.
