Somebody call VH1: "The Fine Bros" are trying to trademark "reaction videos"

They now have lost over 200K subs.

That isn't enough, need to get at least two million un-subscribing, nice if they drop to two million subs total after this.

I have only found out about them from this basically & they say first impressions count, well I don't like them one little bit.

VH1 used to make videos with people reacting to video clips back in the day. This doesn't affect VH1 and they didn't say anything.
no, it's a joke
It's a reference to all the Celebrity-filled "I Love the 'XXs" shows back at the turn of the century that used to be on VH1 because they're literally the same format React videos use. Not to mention that the format had been around for ages before.

The Fine Bros. flew too close to the sun and their wings melted. Now they're hoping someone catches them before they hit the ground.

polygon is late as always

This is fine. Spread the news across several days through several outlets to keep people fluidly informed and unsubbing.

It's fine. Not everyone reads these networks every day. Cast a wide net - a wide, molten, fiery net.

Edit: Holy shit at 130/min now :O

it was just a snide remark at an often laughable site. :p

Both of you are towing the line of "reacting" to something... back away slowly.

Alerting fine brothers for your use of "reacting".

Agreed it's not enough especially because people in this thread and all over the internet keep saying "never heard of the Fine Bros" and then people post a bunch of their videos for them to watch. I'm sure their views are way up even if their subs are down.

Don't be thinking of it as subs:

I've said it before - sub numbers mean nothing next to engagement.

You can have 80 million subscribers and only engage 5% or have 100 subscribers and engage 40,000%.

A LOT of their engagement comes from non-subs who see their videos shared by those who actively engage in the channel.

If their average views are, say 4m per video and they lose 1m subs, that's effectively losing 25% of their reach wiht just those who engage. Now factor in those subs who share videos and non-subs engagement and you're losing a lot more engagement.

Sub numbers are so you can puff your chest. Nobody cares.

Performance and engagement is where you count your money - this is what "the man" looks at.

Remember, those who are unsubbing are considered those who engage because the engagement door swings both ways and we are seeing their active users fall by the wayside. I'm quite sure many of their subs aren't actively engaging.

I don't want to give these guys views, but what's the current situation?

Are they still going forward with this ridiculous plan?

The trademark application is open to public submissions shortly. There are already lawyers who are going to contest a lot of it.

Good video. That is a very smart business decision. And man o man at the fuckery from fine bros

Whoa whoa whoa... Don't you just... Cut off a finger or something? No need to go to the extreme by ratting on my trademark infringement.

You need to be made an example of to deter potential competition to our turf, particularly the Koreans *shudder*.

After all those reaction videos, the best entertainment the Fine Bros gave us was a livestream of their subscriber count tanking and remix videos of their exasperated expressions.

lol totally not surprised that they would do this. Basically mass email a bunch of animators, offer next to no compensation, and hope one is gullible enough to fall for it.

This kind of thing happens in the vfx community as well, usually targeted towards new grads who are still looking for work. Sadly, there will always be grads who are naive enough to work for free because they are desperate looking for work.

I didn't expect so many skeletons in the closet. I was one of the subscribers, but I didn't know about Ellen and prior Youtube take-downs before this shit blew up. Good lordy. Not giving them another click after this shenanigan.

so be it. I will suffer for my indiscretions.

On a side note. I got fuck all done today. Was supposed to be levelizing but nope. This is just too much fun. Game now delayed by 1 day.
