Microsoft announces Xbox Live cross-network (PSN and other networks) play

Amazing! The only thing i ask from developers, is please do not allow kb/m vs controllers for competitive shooters. Its an unfair advantage.

Huh so Rocket League would be the first of many? Like someone on PC could host a game and get XBL and PSN peeps to play with them.

The way it's framed suggests more than ID@Xbox titles, but beyond usual MSPR, I don't think that's true?

Isn't this just for ID@Xbox titles?

Running out of reasons to chase down a PS4 if we get FFXIV. Pretty much leaves DQ11 and Persona 5 as games I'd feel like I'm missing out on.

I'm really curious to microsofts roadmap for the next few years. Between the incremental updated Xbox talk, games going to pc and now this. They've got my attention and I'm gonna keep my expectations in check but I'm sorta excited.

People still expecting a traditionnal closed Xbox Two console will probably end up disappointed.

That's bullshit IMHO. An unified environment doesn't mean specialized devices cant cohexist. iOS and Android have smartphones, tablets, watches, TV boxes. Xbox One is and will be Microsoft's gaming-centered device: it won't go anywhere.

Bravo Microsoft!

Really hope Playstation follow suit now, would be a great way to help keep niche games online communities alive.

If they can get big pubs on this it'll be amazing. Stuff like COD, Battlefield, and more with cross play would be amazing.

Makes me wonder if square will go back for FF14. They supported 11 on 360 for a long time.

Wow, multiplatform MP shooters should have an overwhelmingly large community if they support cross-platform network play. I imagine Battlefield 5 should support the feature.

Don't see why Sony wouldn't allow this. It's perfect for them actually, a lot of people will buy an XB1 to play with their friends on CoD or FIFA or w/e. Now they'd have the chance to play with their friends still, and have the better console experience. Could lead to a ton of new sales.

Microsoft is paying attention, it seems. I'm still going to wait for if/when this actually starts getting implemented. Rocket League -- a game that was already cross-play -- is a good starter but I won't be impressed until I start seeing new games with cross-play between Xbox/PC.

I imagine this is a way to help maintain LIVE subscriptions as the Xbox hardware loses its importance to the Xbox brand.

The real kicker would be to see which features are or aren't compatible in cross-play. Can I voice-chat between Xbox and PS4? Can I send PMs to an Xbox gamer from my Steam client?

Cross-play is a start, but the devil is in the details.

Haha, good old Microsoft again.

Just keep the mistakes coming guys. They haven't changed anything from their original vision for Xbox One. They'll never change anything with Windows 10 and its new gaming service either. Just a burning husk of a ship that never changes directions or listens to their customers.

Sweet, I didn't plan on buying another Xbox One. The fact that my wife and I may be able to play with a PC/PS4 in one room and an X1 in another room would be great. (crosses fingers). The non-spoiler stuff was sarcasm..if that isn't obvious.

So now will games have to decouple their friend/ID systems from XBL/PSN to work? Like Street Fighter V does? While it's pretty huge, I feel like then it fragments some of the cohesion in a unified friends list.

But hey, more options isn't a bad thing.

This is exciting. FPS games might be a bit of nightmare against PC players but this is excellent news. I do wonder how/if they plan to implement party chat across platforms.

Possible, but this is a good indication that there can be more things to come with this. It can be the first stepping stone. Either way, it's awesome news.
