How can MS let Titanfall go? This is nuts, stupid.

Lol what?

It was always just the first game. Also, the more players playing, the better.

Would love to see Titanfall be the first big cross platform play title between PSN and XBL.

It's a stretch, but it would be great for population.

They didn't have much choice. They don't own the IP or publish it, they gave Respawn/EA a money hat to make the first, they didn't even get a good deal (imo) on it originally and it was still due to release on PS4 until they paid again to keep TF1 as a "lifetime exclusive"

Unless they had tried to push for the franchise exclusively in the beginning (which is possible) hard to tie Respawn and EA down when it is a hit and they can go bigger the next time round. The amount of money it would take to keep TF2 exclusive - as an Xbox One owner, isnt worth it either compared to what else they could spend the money on

Unless you mean marketing, in which case that seems unclear

How do we still have people spreading this FUD around still that MS kept TF from PS4 because of a moneyhat???

Cross play between ps4 and xbone owners would be pretty awesome.

I'm still whatever on this IP. I wonder if they can get it running at native 1080P solid 60fps on PS4 & XB1 though. Hope they optimized for that.

XBox have it on their official Twitter page with the XBox sting at the start. Playstation don't. Read into that what you will

https://twitter.com/Xbox

Media teams make those promos themselves (on the HW side). You shouldn't read into who has a video up where. Last time we went through this, some game that we KNEW had a Sony deal wound up on MS's YT page for an entire weekend & ppl were going nuts thinking MS actually had it, when it was Sony the entire time.

Bare with me guys. I'm on mobile. I was under the impression that Respawn approached Sony, was denied, and MS helped with the publishing. I don't ever remember seeing it was a lifetime exclusive. Link me if I'm wrong.

True. But I'm unsure as to why people think PS are going to have the main lead on this, especially after MS helped with the development of the first TF.

Then what was the reason? If EA weren't paid by MS, then why wouldn't it have been on PS4?

It wasn't a lifetime exclusive at first though

Considering that Microsoft saved the project by funding the game when it was on the chopping block

It needs to be emphasized here that at the final hour, it was Microsoft that saved the project. We also know that since then, EA and Respawn plan to open up future Titanfall games to more platforms. If Microsoft had not stepped up to the plate, though, the game would have not even been made.

...and...

The message Sony sent to Respawn was that they were not ready to talk about it, although they did have ideas, such as bringing the game to the Vita. There was a point where they had told Sony that the situation would be ‘locked in behind the scenes’, but Sony once again did not respond.

...I think exclusivity was justified.

The initial deal came about through dev troubles and Microsoft willing to fund (part-fund, whichever) development in exchange for timed exclusivity at launch for a period, Sony didn't get involved when it was kind of hinted too that they should or something (to stop exclusivity?) Then in October 2013~ it was announced TF1 was a lifetime Xbox 360/One/PC exclusive after EA and MS had made a later deal

There are plenty of good reasons as to why people think Sony may have the lead on this. There is also the very real possibility no one has the lead on this, and Respawn isn't gonna partner with one of the big hardware guys to market their 2nd game.

More importantly, they took MS's money to just finish the game. That's why it launched barebones and got free modes updates in the following months. Were it not for MS, the game would have never existed.

Jup correct. Respawn was out of money and asked EA again for money otherwise the game wouldnt even be released. So EA talked to MS who funded the rest of it. The game btw was already then MS exclusive because MS were more willing to talk about Xbox One with them and they only could really handle one new platform. They outsourced the 360 version btw. But MS made sure if they helped the first one would always be exclusive for MS.

Yep.

If im gonna pour money into something, damn well im gonna keep it out of the competitions hands. All good now though, everyone gets to play.

Well, this is why I think ended up spending probably a lot of extra money they didn't need to, they should've locked it up permanently (for TF1) from the beginning if they were going to pay towards development, although quite how much they later paid we've no idea so maybe it wasn't all that bad.

I remember people speculating with a FF XV MS deal because they tweeted about Uncovered event and PlayStation didn't.

Doesn't look like source engine anymore. Or at the very least, doesn't look as awful graphically as TF1 did.

Thank the gods.

Awful? Hyperbole and a half. Happy with changes but the first game was far from ugly.

This teaser got me hyped, funny to see the reactiona fter all of the fanboy negativity nonsense surrounding the original at the time - but whatever that's life I suppose.

Titanfall is absolutely the best shooter this gen by a mile, cannot wait.

You have to remember that, originally, Titanfall was a timed exclusive, so the plan always was to have it on the PS4.

After que huge waves that it did at E3 2013, Microsoft spent A LOT to have it be a permanent exclusive, but even back then it was pretty clear that it was a one of, and any sequels would be multiplatform.

I think a sticking point between MS and Titanfall is whether it uses Azure again or not... if MS have marketing they may want that and Respawn might not.

Although given EA and Sony aren't really doing much marketing atm (post-EA Access fallout? I don't know, Disney and Star Wars seems to perhaps have pushed that deal) maybe that will help MS.

It's not...up to Microsoft lol. EA's not going to let the biggest console installed base and a shitload of revenue escape them.

Ah, there it is.
You would indeed be reading into it for no reason. Not to comment on any marketing deal myself, but who posts what first doesn't say anything at all. Playstation Europe's account tweeted it out before Xbox did.

It's true, the deal changed from timed to full, Vince Zampella made public his disappointment at the change on Twitter at the time.

Wich is true. But its not really fair imo to call moneyhat. Because without MS Titanfall wouldnt have been released at all.

EA just made huge bank with PS and Star Wars, the money is to be made on PS4, shareholders don't give a fuck about MS.

They stopped the first from being released in PS completely with money, definition of a moneyhat.
If you paid to help develop a game, would you stop it from going to your competition? Sony had the chance, they blew it. Ms stepped in and took advantage of something good.

Why are people arguing over marketing deals? Who give a shit? The important thing is more people get to play one of the best MP games this gen.

Actually, you're kind of being disingenuous there.

The game was on the brink of being cancelled by EA. Microsoft stepped and said "We'll pay to keep development going as long as it's 100% Xbox exclusive".

Which makes sense if they funded to keep it alive.

I'd say there is a certain difference between paying a company a lot of money on a completed game to be exclusive to your platform and putting money into a game to make sure it's finished and then securing the exclusive rights to exclusivity.

I could see MS marketing Titanfall 2 while Sony did Battlefield 5. It already has brand regcognition with Xbox and Hardline was marketed w/ Sony I'm pretty sure.

This always comes up with big multiplatform shooters it's not really new.

According to him its called a Moneyhat. Since ms is known for moneyhatting. It has to be moneyhatting.

Sure, and I'm not saying they won't work with Sony or put games on their platform but EA are interested in pushing their services (Origin and EA/Origin Access) and if someone doesn't let them do that they way they want to they seem quite willing to not support that so much.

They would sell more games I suspect if they put their PC games on Steam, but they don't, wasn't part of that due to how Steam wanted to take a cut of DLC sales which EA didn't like?

Recently we can see EA have been favouring MS for marketing of their games in franchises they own/partner with. Im sure there will be plenty of EA and Sony marketing deals outside of Star Wars in future but pointing out EA and Sony havent done a whole lot together recently is a pretty obvious observation. We'll see how things go with Mass Effect, Battlefield, Titanfall 2 and maybe if EA Access comes to PS4.

Peter Moore didn't seem all that happy about Sony's comments on EA Access in the not too distant past either

Assuming you're talking about my original money hat, it was such a small part of what I said I don't think it really matters. They paid EA/Respawn whoever money, if I had known my short-hand terminology was going to be questioned so much I would have probably written something else, you get the point I was making...
