This. This gleeful pre-emptive handwringing at the mere thought of a low score hitting just for the reactions is getting very obnoxious.

And yeah, like you said, these posts likely outnumber the actual reactions ten to one. It's basically just trying to stir up the hornet's nest.

this is so true. There are always 10x as many posts saying "MELTDOWN INCOMING!" "HERE COMES THE BANS!" "CANT WAIT FOR THE MELTDOWNS", "WALL OF SHAME INCOMING MAMA ROBOTNIK LOLOL" like bro...shut up, lol. Such an annoying self-aware trend.

Guys.. the metacritic doesn't say much about the game's quality anyway.. until BioGamerGirl adds her review ofc

I find it amusing, and I'm fine with finding it amusing because it's going to happen. Just like everything Nintendo does, how E3 goes down, etc. Part of the fun of message boards is the pure nutjob extravagance that sometimes happens. It's entertainment in its own right. I'm not saying people should act like assclowns, but they do.

It's just a bit of fun, and there's absolutely no reason to take any of this shit seriously. Watching people lose their minds in a videogame review thread is hilarious.

if Polygon gives it an 8, it can consider itself crowned.

I go back and read Sony and Nintendo's E3 threads from last year every blue moon. Amazing stuff.

This game is NOT getting below a 90 on metacritic. Consider the track record for Druckmann and Staley directed games, the development time for that extra polish (which UC3 was understandably missing), and what we've played from the MP beta. This is best controlling UC game by far and probably the best controlling third person shooter. Thinking about the feeling they've accomplished in controlling the character while still having all those animations layered in. That's impressive to me. Gameplay in this is already superior to all other Uncharted games and reviews enjoy improvement. You can be way more creative in combat here and it seems like ND put a lot of thought into level design and the actual encounters. The only thing that I could see being knocked is something with the story and the mood compared to past Uncharted games. But going for ND, most stories in the gaming industry are uninspired anwyays, and it's Druckmann who is very good at writing and directing. 94 is my safe prediction, but it's probably going to be 95 or 96.

Where do you draw the line between legitimate opinion and clickbait? Is it strictly numerical?

While I'm sure there are websites that practice these "clickbait" techniques, I think the distinction has nothing to do numerically (based on the actual rating of the review). More it has something to do with the size and track record of that particular website/publication.
If an unknown publication with no real history comes up with a low score there is a possibility it might be done to push traffic on their website... but not necessarily; that can be made clear only after actually reading the review and playing the game.

That being said, it's crazy when the "meltdowns", insults and accusations go towards a review/reviewer
1. coming from a highly praised and regarded website/publication
2. without actually reading the review and playing the game.

It's also a silly attitude, as people should be more interested in the negative reviews for these type of games than the positive ones. When we expect mostly praise, I for one am more curious to see the few negatives reviewers are bringing up.

Seems people only care about drive-by review posts when its a game they have a stake in.

The hardline should be that both review-whiners (who can't elaborate why the disagree without behaving like small children) and bystanders (who really don't care about the game and are just here for *insert agenda*) are given the boot.

Ya, tell me about it.

92 is my prediction

I think there there is going to be a slight feeling of "Been here, did this" but the production values, set pieces, characters, and fan service will outweigh all of that.

I say the lowest meta out of the mainline Uncharted but by far the best game. The combat and AI improvements seem legit, plus ND is in their prime right now, on top of the game. Plus BB and dark Souls 3 only managed 90-92 and they are nearly perfect: P

I really hope mods are diligent in the review thread. When a review inevitably gets a 7, you are going to have 10:1 posts preemptively trolling the one person who bites. "Uh oh", " here they come " etc is supremely annoying.

These type of games from that developer have always gotten those kinda of scores though. That's exactly a factor that points to Uncharted 4 getting a 94 at the very least. Strong series this gen continue to put up consistently high scores as long as the quality if up there.

I'm expecting more people to review the game than any game in the history of entertainment. Uncharted 4 will be the most reviewed game of all time.

93 is what my instinct is telling me.

It'll probably mostly get 9's, and I expect a fair few 10's, but I also expect more 8's than 10's...

Based on that I'll go with a 91.

I'm not harping on you particularly, but I don't get these posts. The entire combat system has been revamped to leverage the best parts about TLoU (contextual melee, NPC awareness, etc).

We know from the MP beta that the game controls better than any other Uncharted game by far. But most importantly, the rope swinging mechanic has been implemented through the game and it looks like you can use it in so many ways to traverse during combat situations, such as swing roping out of a moving car during an encounter. This is not in any other Uncharted game or any other third person shooter. The contextual melee was shit compared to what we have now, which closely resembles TLoU. Other NPC characters get involved and double take downs can happen. This is a very dynamic game. The fact that ND has patched in ability to choose particular encounters tells you that they were careful about how this was designed.

To top it off, shooting is superior to all other Uncharted games. Gameplay is arguably the biggest upgrade to this series. If anything ND is more likely to get dinged for reusing a set piece or faltering on the story. So I think you have everything opposite, lol.

Anything can happen, we don't know if the pacing has issues or if reviewers feel fatigued by these games, plus a lot of reviewers simply don't like these games by design. It seems like a sure bet but who knows at the end of the day. I do feel like the reviewing climate is different than it was a few years ago. You have more divisive opinions out there and more oddball reviewers.

Drake climbing up some obstacle is certainly iconic at this point

And I see no problem with that sequence being utilized more than once when it's such a great set piece.

And They ding you for trying something different in games and for staying consistent so it really doesn't matter...

Lol, a Druckmann and Staley game is not likely to have pacing issues.

And you mention fatigued by these games? They're more fatigued by first person shooters than anything else. You can easily see that's reflected in the review scores. I mean somehow Ratchet and Clank has a score of 86 on metacritic which goes against what you've said. That game is more third person shooter than platformer too like some of the other games in that series. I think that reviewers would rather see more of a platformer.

I don't think it will feel like a been there done that feeling. There are some cool new things they are adding with multiple paths through the level which will break down the heavily scripted feeling. Also, I love the addition of vehicles and the physics driving them. The vehicles in the other games felt silly. The physics in the game is way ahead of anything I have seen which makes the world feel more alive. Also, I like how the traversal is not separated out from the combat. It shouldn't feel automatic. There needs to be some challenge. The same goes for the set pieces and puzzles.

Everyone knows the one area that sucked in previous Uncharted games was the AI and combat. It's dated and not brilliant. This is especially true in part 3. It felt too videogamey. The AI didn't feel natural with the snipers, grenades, and RPGs always pointed at your head no matter what like you are a bullet magnet. With their terminator-like vision, they see you even when you are behind walls. The terminator like enemies that didn't even flinch when you shot them didn't make the combat better.

Just by improving the AI and reactions of the enemies, this game will be infinitely better than the previous games. When you shoot a guy in the leg, he better fall over not behave videogamey and start running around like he's on some crazy-sh*t. It would be awesome if the combat was finally better than Gears Of War. Before it was just something you got through to see the spectacle. This is my only worry about the game.

Even if it still has all these problems, the characters, adventure, and most importantly cutscenes/story will propel this over 90. It's so much better than anything out there.

Gears of War actually has much greater chance of dealing with the fatigue issue unless the wind gameplay mechanics are legit.

It's probably already been asked, but is there a file/disk size yet?
TLOU on ps4 was huge, so I can't imagine how much space this will take up on my HDD.

Is this just for reviews or videos too? I've finished the game and captured some nice moments that I would like to upload as a montage

UC4 single player takes up the entire Blu ray disk. The MP component is a separate download. Yeah, it's big...

I don't think it can tbh. From impressions that many people gave, nothing about it has been mind blowing so far. But I haven't played it so I might be wrong here. I just hope the game still has the same amount of wow factors that Uncharted games usually have.

Naughty Dog kind of oversold the game in the beginning with that 60FPS trailer. I think if this scene is in the game, it scores a 95 easily. If it's not probably closer to the lower end of 90s.

Given that this non-interactive 2 minute scene-- if it is in the game still -- will be at 30FPS, and will look better as a result, how will its presence, or non-presence affect review scores in a 15+ hour game?

Because don't you know that every single second of any section of any game shown at any pre-release event is a legally binding, solemnly signed and sealed contract from the developers to the players that that content is 100% confirmed and verified to show up in the actual game in pixel-by-pixel, frame-by-frame replication?

Anything less than that is a legally condemnable knife in the back to loyal fans.

It'll be less what it gets than how it gets it and what is finally thought about it, but if I had a guess for the final score I'm gambling somewhere around 89. I'd rather it be an experience that's strongly crafted than one that aims too high like UC3, or tries to aim high on an artistic standpoint (e.g. TLOU) only to screw up the balance of the game design structure in the end (e.g. UC3, at certain points).

ND's games are never perfect, but always well produced and indicative of a certain heart. As long as UC4 doesn't give in to that production aspect too much or falter on a storytelling standpoint, I see it being a fair game regardless of aggregated scores.

I can see this being a 77/100 game. I can't imagine it getting more than mid 80s.

I think we are starting to move past this genre of game in general.

These posts likely outnumber the posts reacting to the reaction of the actual reactions and are trying to stir up the hornets nest. It's such an annoying self-self-aware trend?

How did I do guys? ;)

For real though, so true. I guess I didn't mean to get so meta there. ...eh?

Ok I'll stop.
