So let's see.

Not only do they plan on releasing an upgraded XB1.5 they want to release a new architecture-based VR-console in 2017.

On top of that, Devs are already dealing with the PS4k.

...

good luck devs!
I think new hardware that is not an immediate market success will just be ignored. PS4/Xbone/PC is the path to reaching customers.

I'm okay with this new iterative console cycle stuff. It keeps things fresh and I'm okay with it, especially if they have a great comprehensive buy back or trade in service.

However while this is all great news, personally I don't see any real reason to own an Xbox now. I think going lower tier is cute an allows the natural divide some people's want from Xbox (Media functions/Gaming Functions)...but...I think I'm going to go with building my PC. I'd like the idea of Microsoft building PC tiers like Alienware and I would prefer that than a new standard Xbox every other year.

100% convinced, MS let these leak to see reactions and then continue or cancel accordingly.

AMD contracts have already been signed for manufacturing lines. These aren't the sort of plans we hear about, inform devs on & ask them to plan ahead for (which the article mentions), and then just change out on at the last minute.

If MS didn't flip before the X1 reveal, even though they had almost 3 months of constant negative feedback from the community, then I doubt its going to happen here.

Probably to allow people to cool their jets and watch E3 then think, actually that's not so bad. Can you imagine the madness if Neo or this wasn't known by the E3 conference, it would drown out everything else and people wouldn't see past crazy.

stop thinking of them as different things and start thinking of Xbox as a platform just like PC, Android etc.

But when will it end, outunder. When will it end?

Xbox the T-shirt, Xbox the Coloring Book, Xbox the Lunch box, Xbox the Breakfast Cereal, Xbox the Flamethrower?

So, they are going the "Jack of all trades, master of none" route.

And they'll fail at it, just like they did with their other products in which they tried to do so.

They have the best marketing team working for them ;-)

If they truly were the best advertising company in the world, then most of the products that they've put out in the past would've been successful.

It's like Microsoft is trying to compete with Steam streaming, Apple TV and Android set top boxes, the PS4k and possibly the NX(?) all at once. I'm not sure if this strategy of saturating the market with hardware based on different price points is the best way to go.

Possibly. They could just be testing potential waters with new devices.

Consider that the CEO moved the Xbox team into the Windows team with the sole purpose to increase the appeal of Windows. At least, that's what he said.

The OS war is taking place on multiple screens and at many different price points, so it makes sense they're trying to level the playing field with OS competitors like Apple, Google, and even Amazon.

All of it sounds horrible to me, with the exception of a Slim model and the PC stuff (which I just don't care at all about). I would still prefer them stay the course with a true next console coming out in a few more years but some people want more options, so we'll see how this pans out of true.

Wait there wasn't negative feedback "before" the Xbox One reveal.

Well that explains a lot. Though I have a feeling that with Microsofts terrible track record with hardware, some of these devices are going to be abandoned within a year. But it will be interesting to see what they have to show us.

Yup. MS is trying to go to war with everybody. Them allowing free OS upgrades to Windows 10 was all apart of their strategy to get people into the Windows Store ecosystem. It's all about driving people to their store no matter what device you are using.

What if the streaming stick enabled games from your beefy gaming PC?

Xbox UI becomes just the TV UI for Windows and actual XBox devices become Microsoft's gaming PC equivalent of Surface.

Haha, someone forgot that almost all of the policy direction & Durango specs were leaked months before the X1 was announced, or the Adam Orth incident that confirmed all of the leaks, and how MS stuck their heads in the sand & went full steam ahead even though they had 2 months of feedback from the Orth situation, and 4 months total from the initial leaks.

Companies are way too large to change direction this quickly. It isn't until they are absolutely certain a specific direction will tank them, like after E3 in 2013, that they will change direction.

Nobody knew anything before the X1 reveal. It was just speculation at that point. They didn't even have a chance to tell anyone yet, so I think his example of them "not flipping" BEFORE the reveal doesn't really work here.

You mean like these rumors?

Yep.

No I remember, but everyone was questioning it, the real hurt didn't happen until E3, I can't make an assumption that the "feedback" on the rumors BEFORE the reveal would have even though of chaning their mind when they didn't even try to explain it yet.

If I recall what we ended up being told was WORSE than the rumors before the reveal. They fucked that up bad.

I don't think microsoft will ever do this. they're too worried about an overheating box after the RROD thing
That's a shame. Sony manages it. I'd even like for my Nintendo systems to be a little larger and to have the power supply built in. I don't like these big power bricks.

This Xbox Two/Xbox 2017, is it an upgrade of the Xbox One like the Neo is to the PS4 or is it a new Xbox entirely? The latter wouldn't make any sense at this stage IMO but the wording of all these devices is becoming a bit confusing.

Nobody knows.

But that´s not really the point ...

It will play all Xbox One games and all games made for this Xbox Two

The important questions is if these "new" games for Xbox Two will also work on our old Xbox One´s (with reduces graphics)

MS is not that good at building hardware and releasing a family of products based off a middling console doesn't strike me as the best idea.

I'm very interested in this Xbox Stick - Streamer product and would buy one for every TV in my house, if the following:

  • The Xbox Stick can stream games from the Xbox One
  • While game streaming, the host Xbox One can continue to watch TV or run non-game apps
  • The Xbox Stick can run Xbox One media apps
  • Priced up to $100
  • Bonus: The Xbox Stick has an HDMI pass-thru of it's very own

Actually that's incorrect. The 360 already had an external power supply at launch.

The reason Microsoft is unlikely (might change with Surface team) to do an internal power brick goes back to the OG Xbox when a bunch of power supplies were exploding or bursting into flames.

Remeber these?

These came as a result of that.

There are also tons of threads about how loud the PS4 is because the fan has to kick into high gear. I'll take silent with a side of power brick over that every day of the week.
