The Neo talk is already ridiculous, what have you done, Sony? Why?

Neo talk is just nonsense.
As if Uncharted 4 last month wasn't enough to prove what the current PS4 can do in the right hands not to mention what Guerrilla itself accomplished at launch with Shadowfall.
Until Sony announces the Neo, all footage must be from PS4 if a game is advertised as a PS4 only game, otherwise it would be false advertisement.
When Neo is announced they will need to specify.

You talk as though downgrades are a foreign concept.

People don't believe this to be non-Neo graphics with good reason; it's open-world and we've not seen a console open-world game look this good before (or even close!).

Please, no MP. Why every damn game must have MP? Just no!

Seriously. Slapping on MP onto an open world RPG or Action RPG just so you can say "me too" is not good use of allotted dev resources IMO

this is why i think theres a big possibility its "in-engine" shenanigans

They showed this game at last E3 and melted people's faces. A lot of people questioned whether or not it was in-game. GG then showed that it was in fact in-game. Fast forward to 2016: GG show a new trailer (with TON of rendering artifacts, pop in etc) which is way more polished than what we've seen before, and once again melt people's faces with pretty visuals. GG will once again show that its in-game and the cycle continues.

TL;DR
It's GG on Sony hardware. Everything is in-game much like it always was.

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
The guy's voice in the trailer sounds remarkably close to Richard Epcar. Does anybody know for sure?

So us base PS4 owners get the poverty version?

Come on fam, I doubt that will happen and if it does, WELP

There were folks who called such things when the Neo rumors first hit

Come on, the game is being designed for the PS4 it's not going to run at 15 FPS. I would expect PS4 to be 1080 / 30 and Neo to be 1080 / 60 with some small visual upgrades.

I don't think you have anything to worry about :).

This shit is why Sony needs to inform the masses on Neo ASAP.

Like, why the hell would they fund a massive PS4 exclusive that runs like shit on PS4.

Informing the masses isn't going to be a cure for people who think a game that was running largely fine last year will just almost be stable on Neo, despite the performance gap.

He didnt really think his post through. And I dont want to go back to the dark days of GAF when the initial Neo rumors hit and all the hysteria and stupidity that followed.

Guerrilla has already proven themselves with their technical abilities countless times.
They delivered on launch day a next gen looking fps while the others were locked in cross gen world.
The game was demoed and gameplay showcased last year and it looked just as amazing and that was well before Neo existed.
In my opinion it's useless to doubt teams like Naughty Dog, Guerrilla or Santa Monica on the technical side. They are among the top developers of the world.
This isn't Neo footage obviously since Neo is not even announced at this point and they certainly aren't deliberately lying just to pay for it later.
As I said when Neo is announced developers will need to specify where the footage is taken from.

nbnt

is responsible for the well-being of this island.
Man watching this trailer really made me wanna revisit KZ:SF, there are some similarities art wise and it still looks pretty damn good. Severely underrated, my second favorite fps of the gen (Doom is #1).

What?

What FPS do you think the PS4 version will run at?

I mean with the visuals we see in this trailer

I don't doubt that the OG PS4 will run the game well, but I doubt it will look as good as this trailer.

Guerrilla most definitely knew of the (approximate) Neo specs at that time.

I do believe the trailer is 'Neo mode' and the game looking like it does in the trailer would run like shit on base PS4.

However, the base version will still look Uncharted 4 levels of gorgeous at, probably, solid 30fps.

It's not like open-world games with cheesy writing has been successful before.

GTA

Also almost every JRPG and WRPG released in the last decade.

Even beloved games like Grandia II and others, as much as I love them, they lay on the cheese in so many ways lmao ^^

The visuals in this trailer, in many ways, look worse than some of the similar locations in UC4. Shadow resolution and flickering, and quality of antialiasing for example. It's vanilla PS4 footage.

Sony doesn't need to do anything right now because the Neo hasn't been announced. Anyone saying this game is running on NEO or that isn't in-game is just speculating, the known facts simply do not support those theories.

What we know:

-The game was shown on PS4 hardware running in real-time. It looked good then and looks good now.
-None of what was shown at E3 was pre-rendered or CG
-THIS IS GUERRILLA GAMES.

Well, yes. The game is open-world. Like I've said above, the game looks miles better than any console version of an open-world game we've seen before, including the also-first-party Infamous: Second Son.

That's exactly why I stated they need to announce it soon and inform the public on how base PS4 performance will be affected.

The rumours surrounding it are starting to be harmful to the unreleased games they're showing.

Infamous still looks amazing but it was also a launch window title.

Did they really come out and say that was running on a PS4? It doesn't seem unusual to demo something that early on dev hardware.

Looks great and the premise is quite interesting.

Only hangup for me is that it will run 30 fps. Would buy NEO for 60.

I don't think you'll be getting many (or any) open world games on the Neo running at 60fps, that CPU is still ass. MGSV is an exception due to its cross-gen situation.

You will attempt to play down any example I give you because you wish to believe this trailer is running on base PS4 hardware/refuse to believe it might not.

It looks way better than the Witcher 3.

It looks comparable to the semi-open world sections in Uncharted 4, but on a much larger scale, in a dynamic open world, with random AI elements totally absent in those Uncharted segments. Additionally, it looks to have dynamic weather and lighting also absent in those Uncharted segments. And Naughty Dog = Naughty Gods.

If something looks comparable to U4 under much more taxing circumstances, I'm playing the Neo card.

Not sure how I am downplaying anything. I said anyone stating anything as fact, other than the known facts is purely speculating. And Infamous does look good and it was indeed a launch title. You can say its running on a quantum computer for all I care but the fact is we don't know. Not saying anyone is wrong.

Another bona fida developer giving his opinion. Even though the PS4 managed games at 60fps like MGSV. The Neo with a minimum 30% cpu increase and at least twice the GPU performance will struggle??? I'm sure developers will struggle to find the right balance to achieve 60fps in open world games?

I'll be the first to admit I'm speculating.

But it would be one hell of a boring discussion forum if we only ever sticked to the facts.

Mine's an educated guess, nothing more.

ha. agreed. definitely way more fun to speculate. One thing is for sure though, its definitely running in real time on whatever hardware it is

If the framerate is CPU-bound in anyway on the vanilla PS4, a 30% cpu increase won't be enough unless some of the tasks can be offloaded to the GPU. You will probably only see better anti-aliasing and graphical effects at the same framerate.

I find it hard to believe judging by the latest trailer for Horizon that this is running on PS4. Probably is the Neo version because it looks insane.

Did you not read the post right above yours?

It's been there for a while, you know.
I did now. Once the engine has to stream the terrain in all the directions, it doesn't matter anymore how big the area is. It can be 10sqKm, or 1000000sqKm, it's all the same to the engine, and comes down to how many varied, high quality assets you can produce. Also, UC4 has AI combatants in some of those open areas, and, sure, doesn't have day/night changes - but also looks better in some ways, so it's generally a wash.

I mean generally speaking, and all the potentially baseless comparisons aside, I'd expect a Neo-class hardware to have better image quality and shadow resolution than what's seen here.
