I played 14 games post Qualifier matches tonight and I have a few opinions to share.

1. Stick with it until you get done with your Placement matches, it gets better when you are playing people you're own skill.

2. I know Blizzard said your own performance goes into your skill gain and loss, but I find this to be so minor that it's basically just win/loss. I seem to gain or lose roughly a level worth of skill rating every game. No matter how good I play.

3. Blizzard has to remove the skill rating change from games where people leave. It's complete bullshit that one person can leave your game, leading to a countdown that allows EVERYONE else to leave, and yet you still get skill rating loss. It's not even your fault. And yes, people still leave these games semi regularly despite the harsh penalties. I had one game where the entire enemy team left after one of theirs abandoned them.

i love that competitive is out so i can go in quick play and practice all the stupid shit i wanted to before, but was afraid to because of win %. I can now just be the asshole that plays widow on offense care free.

Leaving penalty HAS to be addressed. Twice now I've been in PUGs spanking the opposing team only for people to leave. 1/10th EXP. What the fuck, how should I be penalized because they left?

I'm not touching competitive until this shit is sorted.

I played around 5 matches of Competitive and won 3 of them and loss the other 2 so my Rank bounced between a 60 and a 62 until finally setting at 61. I'm hoping I can keep it going like this for a while.

These matches have been extremely fun though, minus the one where the enemy team rage quit and there was 1 dude left.

I'm not rage-whining since my win ratio is basically 55% which is the same as regular matchmaking which I found enjoyable but Competitive seems like a half-assed mess.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
God dammit. Fuck this game.

This is easily the most vile community I've ever played with. Period. They're assholes. They don't hero switch. They don't give a fuck about the objective. We have two fucking snipers every.fucking.game, but if I select a hero other than a healer, we'll go five fucking games in a row without a healer.

And when I finally do have a good team - which does happen from time to time - it's like we'll either completely fucking steamroll the other team, or we'll still get steamrolled ourselves. In other words, MM is just completely fucked. Period.

This game has phenomenal controls. Beautiful performance. Amazing player agency. Fun and fair maps. Enjoyable characters. And a strikingly good balance between characters. The foundation is damn solid. But actually playing the game even somewhat competitively is just a complete fucking crapshoot.

I'm not even doing terribly. I'm at a 56% win rate, and tonight have gone about 50/50. But it's just not fun when it feels like absolutely nothing I do influences the outcome whatsoever. I could go AFK or I can go 30:1 K/D or I could stand on the cart for 80% of match... and whether I win or lose feels completely out of my hands.

There are times I'm on fire 90% of match or get near 20K healing and we can't even capture second point. Other times I'll admit I play like shit - missing hooks, always having the wrong hero, dying over and over - it doesn't matter - and we'll just destroy the other team.

At some point - 60 hours in - I have to look at this game and say I've unlocked damn near nothing cool. The rounds are truly starting to blend together. And my skill is probably about where it will stay - and ultimately, it doesn't matter, anyway.

The progression in this game is just pure shit. And it would be fine if I could feel myself getting better. I could feel myself slowly climbing into a higher skill bracket and that actually mattering. But it doesn't. At some point, surely, you have to ask "what's the point?. Right? Or am I crazy. Do you feel like you're getting more out of this game today than you did a few weeks ago?

Five extremely shitty teams in a row. I am just not having fun with this game anymore. Wish competitive didn't ruin quickplay because I would rather do that but alas..

Go away from your main pool of heros and try some new ones. Keeps the game fresh

Every one of my competitive matches on PS4 had a well structured team and we worked well together. I keep hearing all these complaints about the community, but I haven't experienced that on PS4 at all really. Am I just getting lucky?

And yes, this. I started playing Reinhart and Symmetra and I was having as much fun as I've ever had again.

This game gets so frustrating sometimes that I just play worse and worse. D:

From 63 to 48. The downward spiral continues. I really do not understand this games match making. I don't claim to be an amazing player or anything but I've never played a video game were I'm on the losing side as much as this one. It's totally baffling and making the game very unfun. Like why bother playing when I already know the likely outcome?

OH GOD, THERE'S SOMEONE ELSE LIKE ME OUT THERE. 59 to 44 so far. It feels fucking awful and I don't blame you for thinking of quitting, I'm pretty much there myself, kind of broke yesterday and today with a mixture of rage, frustration and resignation. Spent the rest of today playing other video games and it was, you know, nice and fun and relaxing and didn't at all make me hate myself.

This has to be on purpose. No way anyone is this crap.

Seems pretty normal to me. I mean, the fact that he even bothered to respond with "fuck off" already makes him a more communicative player than 90% of randoms out there. Usually players just pick Hanzo on Attack, stay way back and contribute jack shit, and when people ask them to change or be more aggressive, there's zero response. Lol.

It is pretty entertaining reading all these ranked stories. Would love to know more about your guys background when it comes to team based multiplayer games, mainly MOBAs. Just feels similar to when I first started playing ranked LoL years ago. Now I still play but don't get too upset when these DC's or questionable teammates happen.

All you can do is play to the best of your skills and learn and get better and hope to carry.

Long story short, welcome to elo hell.

I got into a game, picked pharah after someone else did, and he actually repicked to mercy without getting mad and pocketed me the whole game? Am i playing competitive overwatch?

Admittedly, I've never touched a MOBA. My friend in college used to play LoL all the time, and he screamed in his mic like a douche all the time, so sounds about right.

But, thinking of the multiplayer games I've played the most of:

TF2
Halo 2
Planetside 2
R6: Siege
Super Smash Bros
Mech Assualt
Phantasy Star Online

etc, etc - this community is just AWFUL. It's like *nobody* wants to help anyone.

You also have a Torb and D.Va.

That shit was over at the select screen.

Torb, Mercy, Dva isn't bad on Volskaya. It's defense. A Symmetra and Rein would balance that up nicely, along with a flanking attacker like Reaper or Soldier. Or if they want to be totally defensive, a good Mei.

But without another tank and with a Hanzo, that would just leave the point wide open. Two Hanzos? Yeah that shit was over at the select screen. :p

This is the approach I take. Shitty players will always be in pub ranked. That's just the name of the game. All I can do myself is play to the best of my abilities and hope for the best.

I wish that the one GAFFER who had the ranked game where the Torb babied out in the KotH match and just suicided over and over recorded that match. Would love to take a glimps into other peoples' hells.

I think it does but it looks and feels like the rating change is 80% win/loss and 20% performance. Win/loss still makes up a significant majority when it comes to rating change I reckon. I'd like to see it be the complete opposite of that.
I just lost a match where I had nineteen resurrects and 14 000 healing done in about fourteen minutes of gameplay. We lost in sudden death despite the fact that we completed the objective a whole six minutes faster than the other team did. For icing on the cake I also got play of the game because one of my revives was a triple where I'd also killed someone.

For this performance, I lost an entire level's worth of rank (as in I went from being close to a rank down to ranking down and still being close to another rank down).

Because this is not an aberration, I feel comfortable in saying that individual performance means nothing and that this is an incredibly unsophisticated system.

I honestly wish you could carry a team in this. I can at least throw on the cape and save the team if it came down to it but no.

Playing Hanzo instead of actively trying to push the payload is always a good idea. Where did all these people in ranked come from lol.

Doesn't every season do new placements? I'm never playing without HANDPICKED teamembers, going to make sure my teams are well rounded, gonna pump up my Rein game, everything. I'm not going to OW hell again.

You're fucked either way because they aren't resetting skill rating so you'll just start placements with your S1 rank as the starting point

Basically. Individual performance means jack shit. Ranking only seems reflect skill in so far as you bias the outcome towards win/loss with your play. Unfortunately, as many have stated, it's almost impossible to carry in this game. You can have an absolutely savage game and still get rolled.

Shit, does that mean that later on when we see quickplay Hanzo randoms who have gold bows, we know they must have fucked up at least 300 Ranked matches for other people? What a mark of honor...

Like in quick play the team composition has been decent for the most part on Xbox. Soon as ranked comes out everybody runs around with their heads cut off. I don't know if it's just the nerves of being in ranked, but jesus. Lol.

Got into a game where both teams were just cracking jokes all match long while playing heroes that make sense and going for the objective 24/7. That lasted 5 games before the lobby died.

RIP fun.

Please add dedicated private servers eventually.

I've played every cod since 4 on Xbox and I've run into more toxic people in OW than all those thousands of hours of COD combined lol

I can't even imagine how bad it would be if people could see my match stats on OW or send me messages.

Pretty sure that's just a myth.

His name was Darkninja836 and he only played Genji, even on defense

Torbjorn on ranked on consoles has really taken a hit in usefulness, but my Torbjorn is just 2 good, taking out pharrahs with chicken nuggets is my life
