Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Anybody have any Vizio horror stories on here? I popped onto their Facebook page and got put off by the constant consumer complaints about their tv's on there. Kind of just looking at 1080p Samsung's currently, though nothing really sounds great these days...at least at my budget.

I don't know man, panny plasmas are still ridiculously good for 1080p sources. Still love my 2009 model.

Black screen is now basically grey even with brightness set to 50/100. And whites are starting to get a pink tinge. Still has a great picture but its getting tired now.

It'd be around 10000 hrs useage now.

If anyone is getting a Vizio TV (it may work on other tvs, but in the fine print, it says there are some restrictions) at Best Buy soon, I have a coupon here that will give 10% off. Pretty big deal for $1000+ tv. I tried using it for an online purchase of the P55 and it did in fact take $120 off. I'd use it but I have another coupon for 10% off and they don't stack. Plus this one expires on 7/25, while my other is good until some time in September.

Just put that in the promotional code part when you're in check out. It's also good for in store use, but for that you have to print out a page, and if I link you to that it has some of my personal info on it. That said, you can use the code for an online purchase and just do in store pick-up.

Yeah, I had some random connectivity issues with deep color enabled. Didn't get a signal unless I turned the TV off and on again.

I've seemingly managed to fix it by going in the Nvidia CP -> Set up Digital Audio and turning off audio pass through on HDMI. Of course you'll need to have your receiver hooked up directly to the PC otherwise then you won't get audio this way.

No,no...

You can fix the problem on the 2016 lg oled's by turning off "digital audio" in nvidia control panel on your pc.

:)

Lol I should read more of your response, you already know about this fix :p

Been reading reviews on the Vizio P-series. Two reviews in particular pointed out that while the tv accepts a 4:4:4 signal @4K the tv only displays 4:2:2. This makes a difference to me at least when used for PC gaming.

I'm assuming this is a non-issue for the consoles.

On the Sony 930D I see that it accepts a 120hz 1080 signal but has artifacts. For anyone with this tv; How noticeable are the artifacts?

I once used a TV for gaming. Felt like I needed sunglasses to use it for certain games. (If they had text for example.) How do the LG OLEDs fare with games that have text that you need to read. (World of Warcraft for example.) my concern is with the brightness required for HDR.

my 940c has no artifacts at all doing 1080p/4:4:4 @120hz, unless you are talking about scaling artifacts, which I find minimal and completely invisible at my sitting distance.

Wait actually. I did just install new nvidia drivers - maybe it details digital audio to "on"? I'll check when I get back home. I thought I did a custom install and told the audio component to fuck right off though.

How far do you sit from the tv? I'm looking at the 930D which is the 2016 version I believe.

Debating between the 930D and the KS9000. Basically it comes down to being able to take a 1080 4:4:4 120 input (930D) vs a better all around tv but no 1080 4:4:4 120hz.

Buy the KS8000 and save some money. Image quality should be better all around than the 930D, and very very close to KS9000. Input lag is also way lower than the 930D (21ms vs 52 on the Sony).

This is what I'm going to end up with probably. I have an itch for 4K but until I get my own place I want to wait. (I'm eying those OLED TVs.) I ordered an hdmi 2.0 cable from Amazon. I'd love to play some games on it and content from my PC.

Does anyone here have a LG 65EG9600? I saw it in store and wow I loved it. I was about to buy it, until I learned that LG requires a special wall mount.

I'm looking to mount the TV in a corner and the mount they sell is only a flush wall mount. Any idea how to mount it in a corner with the special mounting holes? Can't find anything online.

Edit: shit... Samsung 65KS9000 for $2050 before tax. About $600 less than the Oled. Talk me out of it GAF.

Open box model in like new condition at a local store. I'm guessing that's the way to go? I'd love a 75", but can justify spending twice the price lol.

edit: eh I bought it. Made the delivery for the 30th, so I have plenty of time to decide if I want to cancel or find a better deal. $2150 after tax. TV is in pristine condition and not used. Just a ding in the corner of the box lol. Plus I get 5% back from my discover card, so $2050 total or so.

I had a sony 850d and exchanged it for ks8000. The artifacts at 120hz you are talking about on Sony tvs are very noticeable. They are little horizontal white lines about a centimeter long that are constantly flickering accross the screen, kind of like a snow effect. I found I could set a custon resolution in Nvidia control to output around 90hz, this is where the artifacts become unnoticeable. In the end, the samsung picture quality is a huge step up and I don't mind the lack of 120 hz, the low input lag of the samsung makes up for it to me, if you need 120hz, the only option is a vizio p65 imo, I like the ks8000 fine for pc gaming at 1080 and 4k.

My dad is looking at getting either the Sony KD-65XD8599 or the LG 65UH770V, but since there's pretty much no reviews for either he's undecided.

Anyone able to offer advice? This won't be for gaming.

Appreciate that code, used it on the p65. Don't need a tv till Sept but went ahead and pulled the trigger. 2 week delivery times! eek now the wait.

Been playing on my Vizio P65 for the last 2 weeks.

Games look absolutely insane on it, and my god, that low input lag makes games across every genre much more satisfying.

They both have IPS panels (which means accurate colors, but poor black levels compared to a VA panel), but the LG supports both HDR and Dolby Vision, so between the two i'd go with that. The OS is better as well (webOS>>>Android TV), and the remote control is the same fantastic magic remote i got with my OLED TV, which is possibly the best one out there. The Sony has better motion interpolation and possibly uniformity (that can vary from set to set though), but no local dimming unlike the LG. Not sure if your dad cares about 3D, but neither of these sets support it.

Anyway, you can find reviews for both these sets on rtings and S21.

Interesting stuff, particularly about 4:4:4 4K displaying at 4:2:0 4K on the Vizio. Just curious: do you have a link to those reviews?

Sony has been my go-to TV company for a long time; would love to read that article about artifacts on the 930D. I certainly believe you; just wanting to read it for myself - as it sounds like an appropriately in-depth review.

It's on RTINGS.com and the other was one of the reviews off of google. It's 4:2:2, the TV accepts 4:4:4 but only displays 4:2:2. The reviews did mention that 4:2:2 on the Vizio was still better than 4:2:0. It should only affect you when using the TV as a computer monitor or with games that require text to be read however not as bad as 4:2:0. It's not a deal breaker I would say and the 120Hz is a nice trade off. Found the link. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/p-series-2016

I went with the KS8000. Speaking of which, someone off of craigslist got one heck of a deal for my old tv. (Samsung 46" UN46ES6100FXZA 2012) Loved it, awesome PQ even with low def content. Looked miles better than the cheap 1080P sets today. I sold it for 125. The guy that bought it was blown away when I demo'ed a 4K video on it from youtube. Sad but I couldn't ignore my 4K itch.

I tipped the Barista at Starbucks 5 bucks. They checked the money was real and let me take it in there to demo. The people that asked me if the TV was 4K made me smile. I'm going to miss that TV. (Until I plug the new one in.)

Give it a good critical look for clouding and light bleed! My buddy manages an electronics shop and they sent back their demo because it had horrible clouding. If uniformity and contrast are important I'd suggest something with FALD - P or M series from Vizio based on price - or a 2015 JS9500 Samsung ( I own one and love it). Good luck

Is there a reason that all the TV guys at bestbuy hate Vizio and love Sony TVs so much? I went into a store yesterday, and the salesguy all but threw the Vizio P (and M) series under the bus while saying the Sony 850D was vastly superior to both, especially because it had an IPS screen. Higher profit margins?

Anyone here know anyone who has or owns themselves the panny dx900?

It's down to this or a ks9000 for me.

I like the idea of the panny but there is talk of a black smearing effect which has me worried.

Also looking for feedback for anyone gaming on ks8000, ks9000 or the panny dx900. Will be gaming on these as well.

Suppose I should have asked here first instead of making a thread, but I have a question about the current line of Vizio TVs.

I'm debating between a 50" P series and 55" M series. Both are basically the same price. Unfortunately the 55" P series is just a bit out of my budget, even the other two are pushing it.

I saw them both in person today and honestly couldn't tell much of a difference, but the P-series has double the dimming locations and "wide color gamut" in addition to HDR, which they both have. I'm tempted to just get the bigger M series for the sake of having a bigger screen, but also don't want to feel like I'm missing out on experience HDR to the fullest.

I'll use it for gaming like 80% of the time, and most movie/ TV watching will be from Netflix. I'm entirely sure if BluRay is recommended to fully appreciate HDR.

I notice that the P-series falls way short of the 1,000 nit minimum that TVs are supposed to have to meet some new standard, which worries me and makes me think it may not be worth the price premium.

Anyway, just curious what people who follow TVs more than I do have to say, I didn't see much of a difference at the store, but I also don't trust Best Buy to have them set up correctly in order to properly show them.

Any tips on what to look for?

That OLED is definitely calling me... I changed my mind on mounting it, so between the KS9000 and the LG65G9600. The Oled is about $700 more. Is it worth it even though it's a year older?

I got my new 60KS7000 (US KS8000) all set up. It's a great set for the price and the picture quality is fantastic. My set has absolutely no banding or clouding issues and the blacks are really great for an LCD edgelit TV. It works great as a PC monitor too in 4K 4:4:4 chroma and the input lag is low enough to not really matter to me. Only 21ms in Game mode too.

Overall I'm really glad I went with this set over a much more expensive OLED. To me it's 80% of those TV's for ~50% of the price. Bargain!

I wouldn't get the 2015 OLEDs over the 2016 Samsung LCDs to be honest. Too much input lag and potential banding/vignetting. Definitely think you're better off paying less for the KS series and then picking up a newer, better OLED in a year or two if you're not prepared to spend on the 2016 OLED premium sets right now.

I don't think you can do that on the LG OLEDs either for some reason. It'll be interesting to see how they remedy this in the future.

HDR+ is fake post processing HDR. So no game mode. It was added with an update.

You can get the C6 for that price, which is better than the EG9600. And yes, 700$ more for OLED are money well spent if you can afford it. Otherwise KS9000 is still a great TV, although i'd save some more money and buy the KS8000 at that point.

Image quality is still vastly better on 2015 OLEDs than Samsung 2016 LEDs and banding is a potential issue on any large TV.

He said HDR + Game Mode is a no go for his TV and I read that it's greyed out on at least one OLED model this year (the B6 iirc) so it might not be just the Samsung that does that.

Maybe it's a firmware thing or inputs not set correctly?

edit: he's talking about HDR+. Never mind.

I agree, but that input lag on the 2015s is spotty. Did they ever reduce the latency via firmware updates or are they still in the 50 range? I would gladly buy a 2015 model but lag is a dealbreaker.

So it's different from the regular HDR in the TV? Or am I out of luck? Give me hope here Backfoggen lol.
HDR+ is completely seperate from HDR. It's for SDR sources to make them sorta look like HDR. It's post processing so it adds input lag.
For actual HDR, you'll need a proper HDR source.

Mmm i don't know. The weird thing is that if you don't use motion interpolation the input lag is around 50 in any mode. There's no advantage in using game mode, which is odd and lets you think that maybe they could improve the situation via fw update, but i didn't hear anything about it.
