WSJ: Sony to announce PS4 Slim and Neo next month (Playstation Meeting)

People, keep expectations around $399 - 499. I doubt Sony would want to sell at the most cheapest of price points if NEO is a premium console.

I'm expecting ‎€399 (price of the original PS4 here in Europe). To bring the price up to the heights of the original XboxOne would be nothing short of madness.

So if PS4 Slim is real it means Neo will probably arrive only next year right?

I don't see why that would necessarily be the case. The Slim is pretty much just taking the place of the current PS4 systems as they run out of stock and the Neo is a new product people have been expecting. They have some overlap but not a whole lot. Still, yea likely it's coming next year.

And it will be a dumb business move. You should have it all out this holiday so the consumer has every choice available and they can pick what they want especially if you are going to be underpowered compared to Scorpio. If they are thinking about releasing next year then they might as well wait till the end of the year and release a machine equal to or more powerful than Scorpio.

Definitely agree, I just hope the Neo is in place for this year, it'll be games (software) that'll delay it.

Why would you need to sell it?

because if he wants a neo or a slim (or just the money), the moment these get announced officially, used prices of PS4 are going to get down fast. Many people then sell their "old" model to get the new ones. You get definitely get more if you sell now than after sept. 7th.

I guess you could be right, 399 would secure a lot more sales. I don't think they would go for it though considering their situation at the minute. They do a whole year to themselves and Andrew House said this is a premium console so why not charge a premium price?

Sony have a shit load of hardware for one holiday to launch. Seems a bit overkill honestly. I mean it's not far from what the 3DS model is but that was over years of launches. Not what, a month?

4k HDR would take another 2 to 3 years to really take off. By then there would PS5 and neo would be a lot cheaper.

It's a driving factor of that technology though and Sony is certainly a company that will be pushing HDR device sales moving forward. Both in their TV division and probably VR. Possibly in Gen2 which probably is in that range as well.

Here I am patiently waiting for Neo...

I skipped PS4 because it didn't offer anything I didn't already have on PC. A UHD player that is also a 4K PS4 is worth buying, though.

Kills me that I have to do extensive modding to get proper macro functionality out of my Elite controller on PC. Microsoft really screwed over PC users looking for a premium controller. Maybe Sony can do right by us.

Aside from that, Elite controller weighs too much and could lead some to repetitive strain hand & wrist issues.

Not sure why so many were in disbelief at even the possibility of a slim, 3 years in...
About the "leak", it's a master move by Sony imo, mere days ahead of the release of the $299 XB1S.

I don't think that will sway anyone from the XB1 Slim. Let's just hear the price first. :D

No. Why have this powerhouse console, miss the holidays? It will be October/November

Chinese Foxconn guy said that both the slim and NEO were in full production already

Yup that also makes their lack of new bundles and the continuity of the Black Ops bundle more sensible. They didn't make lots of new bundles because they were planning on launching new hardware.

i would imagine bundles would be a good way to get rid of old stock though. unless they ceased manufacture a good while ago.

Wait, it's come and gone already without fanfare? Wow, must of been a nonevent this year since I didn't here anything and Sony is deciding a separate conference to announce their stuff...

Jr, did you get stuck in that time vortex again? :p

Why would you need to sell it?
Because I hardly use it, I kept it around for SFV and No Man Sky, both games under performed for me. Also, with neo coming out I'll probably just get that 6 months from now, who would want an old ps4 when they can have a slim or neo for cheaper?
I sold mine last week in anticipation of the Neo. Didn't want the value to plummet.
This as well

Slim = $299
Neo = $499

My prediction.
Nvm I'll hold onto my ps4, I'm not paying anything above $400 for the Neo

Hmm, the Slim leak has me thinking there's a possibility Neo/Whatever might come early 2017. If it does hit in 2016, I'm going to guess a November 1st launch date. That's a Tuesday (the standard release day for most electronics/games/movies here in the US), and falls in line with the earlier documents about games being Neo-ready in October. The slim release also leads me to believe the Neo is going to be a bit more expensive than I'd guessed previously. I'm going to say either $450 or $499 with a 1tb standard HDD (maybe a game packed-in).

article is pr rewrite, numbers are tiny.

edit: they may not have even re-written it, lol.

Next-generation immersive, object-based sound formats also will be delivered via the Ultra HD Blu-ray specification. Additionally, with the optional digital bridge feature, the specification enhances the value of content ownership by embracing the notion that a content purchase can enable consumers to view their content across the range of in-home and mobile devices.
