Dont get the point buying a slim when you already got a PS4.
It's obviously designed as a "budget" PS4 and not an upgrade from the original model since Neo is rumoured to be out very soon. If I bought a PS4 Slim it would literally be a downgrade for me due to the omission of optical out.
Microsoft has billed the S as a significant upgrade since Scorpio won't be able for a while. Both consoles have a design philosophy.

Missing the entire second half of my post. The point is clearly not to be beautiful, it's to be cheaper. Both to manufacture, and MSRP. That's evident just seeing the cheap plastic that was used.
The design itself is fine, it's just simple and you can tell they were going for manufacturing simplicity. The quality of the materials seems lower, same thing that happened with successive slim PS3 revisions. As a result, this console will be cheaper than the current PS4, and the Neo will take the throne as the new top-end PS4.
You're gonna have to try harder mate. When did I say the OG Xbox One looks better than OG PS4?
And masterclass design, engineering brilliance when it sounds like a jet engine?!? Bahahaha.
Could it have something to do with them removing the light strip from the console itself?
Maybe the controller will show the PS4 status now? Dunno.

Man, i got hyped hoping for better build materials and a potential "Elite" controller only to be let down with light blinding me.
So because it's budget it has to look cheap?
No they haven't? They have said all along "this is an xbox one that also acts as a 4k media hub, if you want a significant upgrade wait for Scorpio".
The analogue sticks look like they are still made of chewing gum but at least we have 2 light bars. Maybe we can also have another touch pad on the back of the DS4.

I believe on the PS3, the slim model allowed for DTS bitstream output when the original did not.
Are you implying that by default all PS4s sound like a jet engine? Because then I must be a special little snowflake, my 2 PS4s being pretty much silent.

Same here. Never had the jet engine issue. Hell, I hardly know mine is except for the fact that I'm playing a game.
You mean like that super ugly PS3 that came after the slim? Isn't the XBO S being marketed as the new XBO, slimmer, and at a better price point? I was under the impression that the old XBO is gone, but maybe I'm wrong.
If this is priced lower than the XBOS and the Neo = the S, it won't be as bad. But regardless, just because it's their cheaper slimmer release doesn't mean it can't be criticized for being butt ugly
I love this jet engine shit.
Because it shows none if you have ever actually been anywhere near a jet engine, which are deafening. The PS4 doesn't come close.
Also - my launch model is fine. Gets noisy when on an unlocked framerate title screen, but even UC4 didn't stress it.

The original PS4 is one of the best looking consoles ever. The redesign can't match that but still looks great.
And lol with the exaggeration - I seriously can't hear my PS4.

Yea yea i've heard it a million times. Jet engine blah blah blah.
But i'll let you know why the PS4 is a masterclass in design.
1. The PS4 proportions follows the golden ratio, Xbox One is a big box, literally.
2. The PS4 motherboard is neatly designed compared to Xbox One
3. Power supply is neatly designed and inside the unit, OG Xbox One is not.
4. The PS4 cooling system is brilliant compared to Xbox One
Mind you i'm not saying OG or Slim Xbox One are ugly or don't get the job done very well, i'm just saying PS4 is a masterclass in design.
All good, but the consumer just hears a noisy box that plays videogames.
Matter of opinion ? I prefer this PS4 slim design over the XB1S design, it's simple, elegant and even smaller than MS's generic uninspired parallelepiped console.

Etta didn't call the OG Xbox One a masterclass in design at any point, you seem to be using it to gush about the PS4 hardware design though? Which is all fine, I really like the OG PS4 but, you can do that without making accusations.

I dont accept this argument at all, unless this Slim is noticeably cheaper, which it very well may be. You say that it's obviously designed as a "budget" PS4, does that mean you think it looks like it as well? Then my question is why does it have to look like a "budget" console, even if it is?
The PS3 Slim was a downgrade with the removal of BC if I remember correctly, yet that model looked good and was still well designed. Of course it's all a matter of opinion. Mine is just that this PS4Slim looks cheap as fuck

And you mate i edited in as a classic example of that because you keep going on and on about OG PS4 sounding like a jet engine (it doesn't, not even close). The thought process behind the cooling system alone is fascinating.

How can you like the PS3 slim but not the PS4 slim? The are very much alike! Both had a HUGE matte top only the PS3 was slightly curved. It's pretty much the same here.
I would if I could. PS4 is a classy lady while Xbox One is a cheap prostitute.
Good question. I can only go off of the pictures of course, maybe it's different in person. But something about the uneven halves of the PS4S looks bad.

Actually, yes. If your aim is to make a clearly differential visual appearance which looks less costly, yes. The general visual cue is if it looks cheaper, it should be in the head of the consumer. Marketing.

I'm sorry, but how am I trolling? I was just stating that a consumer doesn't care about the internal design.It's certainly not silent and more audible than an Xbox. Yes it smaller and yes the motherboard is layed out nice, I enjoy my PS4 very much, I just wished it was a bit more quiet. If the trade off therefor is that it would be slightly larger, thats fine by me. Obviously that isn't going to happen because smaller desing is cheaper shipping. Looking forward to tests if the revised internals give less power draw, heat and with the new design can result in a more silent ps4.
It won't be. They won't force you to upgrade controllers just for VR. That's the whole reason they are offering the move controllers as an optional input device.

He's not, I went through 4 to get a quiet one. Noise varies unit to unit, never know what you're going to get.
These pics seem legit and it's a shame cause I was expecting something prettier. I like the original design much better.
Especially the slim. Those curves are something else...

The additional light bar could improve hand tracking, that's not to say that Sony is somehow forcing consumers to upgrade their controllers. It's just an assumption.

I agree on the noise. Mine was much noisier until I opened it up and blew out dust. Now it is pretty quiet. Experiences vary overall. Same with wobble issues.
As for expecting something much prettier, expectations there vary too. My take is that I remember all Sony's slim and further redesigns of PS3 looking cheaper than OG PS3. I liked PS2 slim more than OG PS2.
