Haha, okay, this is amazing. I think they're adorable. Poor burned and electrocuted Moogle, though :(

EDIT (thanks to @ratsuki):

I think people are still trying to make sure it turns to crap.

Can't handle the good impressions this game has had for a bit now. And only a few sprinkled in bad previews.

To be fair, games in the Final Fantasy series have proven quite capable of blinding reviewers in the past to their faults. Some entries received brilliant reviews that quite simply didn't reflect the experiences of most gamers (or paradoxically reviewers, after the fact). We have been burned before, it is hard to believe.

That being said, I am starting to do just that. I am thinking that this game may pull the rabbit out of the hat. I am starting to get legitimately excited. >_>

Don't break my heart again, Square.

Huh? o . O That's just one of these shallow ponds that you can easily walk through. Or are you suggesting they are walking on water here instead of swimming? XD

No, when he tries to go into the deeper part of the water, there are invisible walls that stop him.

This must mean Altissia is full of invisible walls or something too right?

Ah, you mean the second were he seems to be held back by something. Yeah that's probabaly a no swimming allowed precaution. :(
To be honest, there's a good reason Noctis doesn't swim...otherwise renting the chocobos, that do that for you, wouldn't make as much sense anymore. Want to cross a river or a lake? You need to call your chocobos.
Noctis will probably still swim in certain situation in the game (like in the Leviathan battle), so Tabata wasn't nesessarily lying when he said swimming will be in the game. ;)

I understand beaches like in galdin quay but small ponds like that is very disappointing. It's something that shouldn't be in a open world game like this. The worst contender that does this is Red Dead Redemption but at least in that one it was in deep rivers and you could tell yourself marston can't swim (you can still go in the water too but you just die, plus it was PS3/360 game). The fact that they have an invisible wall for such a shallow amount of water is ridiculous by today's standards.

I wouldn't have even mind if Noctis gets in but an animation stops him or he drowns and one of your buddies pull you out. It's the invisible walls themselves that I hate.

Sorry if this is petty but the invisible walls was my least favorite thing about the duscae demo.

No swimming confirmed

You have this multi-hundred million project to build this massive, beautiful open world, filled it with incredible details and graphical fidelity, various flora and fauna and living creatures in an ecosystem, co-existing with humans, sprawling towns and complex dungeons, great real time weather system and all, oh what did you say, swimming? Nah that's too much.

HD swimming is the new HD towns.

Yeah, how cool would it be if Noctis didn't just ran into an invisible wall, but would instead stop himself and exclaim something like: "No, my Louboutins will get wet!" or something like that.

At the very least I understand not having it be possible for open ocean as there are game design reasons for that(progression blocking).

But in this case, that's a body of water that is embedded into an otherwise fully explorable area. There are no game design reasons it shouldn't be possible. The other irritating thing is it's clear they have(or had) the mechanic built out. Even as recently as the GDC presentations they showed swimming as being a mechanic.

Maybe a nicer middle ground would have been a "soft barrier" similar to how the car, at least back in the build GI played in April, would pull back onto the road, maybe they could have allowed you to swim up to a certain point and then sort of have Noctis swim away from water that is too deep. Obviously that would require a lot of testing to ensure that doesn't cause issues with the game design, but I feel like since it's just water there would be a lot less edge cases than the car would have off road.

EDIT: More annoying is that chocobos CAN swim!

I don't have an issue with no swimming, they have obviously been rushing really hard and needed to cut certain things to make their deadline for this year. But they really should have substituted it or masked the inability to swim with something. Like an animation or something like that.

Otherwise they should have just not had pools of water that were more than knee high where Noctis can walk. Its a breaking of immersion on the highest level to just have invisible walls where you can't go where it seems like you should be able to

Re-watching the E3 2013 stuff hurts the most, I bet we are getting leviathan footage tomorrow, I'm also betting it will be ridden with QTES, rest in peace.

That water looked always really bad to me...

Something that worries me more: Altissia won't get destroyed (too much), right? They won't ruin the biggest and prettiest city in the game, right? :(

On the other hand, the waterfalls looked much better than what we have seen more recently. Wish they could have aped whatever ND did in Uncharted 4.

Someone remind me, what pre-orders have the suit for Noctis? I'm in Sweden and we don't seem to get any of the pre-order DLC aside from the ones included in the normal and Deluxe versions(and gamestop).

Yeah, I don't really understand why they changed the rough, foaming, white water falls for the smooth, blue-ish water curtains. That's not how natural waterfalls look like. What were the environment artists thinking? :/

I literally don't care about not being able to swim. Some of you guys are seriously super unrealistic with your expectations. The game is already doing a ****load of stuff.

Neaux! They should have delayed the game another year to appease all of our demands.

Nah, they'll make it DLC instead, apparently they may have more DLC than what's in the season pass.

They cut the intro, character switching, swimming, double jumping, and ˢᵗᵉᶫᶫᵃ..

According to this guy there are CG scenes in the game (19:20 to 19:35).

He mentions it in plural, and that they are visually as good as Kingsglaive, but all we know is about the intro one with
Regis saying goodbye
.

Is this guy for real? I haven't heard about this before.

WHATTTTTTTT this made me so happy.

But it's not surprising, considering that World of FF has plenty of anime cutscenes and yet the marketing only showcased part of the opening footage towards the game's launch and that's it.

I'm assuming they're going for a less spoilerific approach now.

I mean, the invisible walls are partly to do with fishing right? Perhaps they could have done better with an animation or something, but that could get annoying while trying to get in a perfect fishing position. Or they could have just had swimming. But I hate swimming in videogames anyway unless you are a Zora.

Yeah, it is weird. Maybe it is to save resources? Even then they could take a better artistic approach. This bit just sticks out...

I like that only chocobos can swim, but I'd have appreciated not having invisible walls. You never know what players will come up with when you have so many movement related abilities. Maybe people would find a way to warp your way over the water for a huge skip or early access to some area you're not supposed to be in yet. I find that kind of stuff really fun to mess around with.

Is it me or these kind of abilities are not in the Ascension skill trees? Are they tied to the weapon?
Makes me hopeful that the party has more active abilities than what shown.

So there seems to be a lot of praise in this for he visuals, as there was in the other spanish media outlet video - Vandals. Basically that they expected the PS4 to tank when there was a lot of action on screen and the fps stayed solid.

The sense of scale in this game is something else. In terms of rpgs, it is the best I have seen.

But can it beat Xenoblade X in draw distance?
I Don't care about the quality hairs on an inch worm, I care about the massicivitude of the mountain I am about to explode with a summon.

That's showing that it's level 3 out of 8, isn't it? It even shows the percentage toward Level 4.

Also, that's depressing if they couldn't get swimming working, because they A) Promised it and B) FF14 pulled the same thing, invisible walls everywhere.

Xenoblade X seems to excel in this sense as well. I think the sense of scale in FFXV is more true to life though, and it obviously has substantialy higher level of detail given the hardware it is on. I think the draw distance is excellent going by the video posted.
