Maybe Noctis is secretly working for Niflheim, killed all his friends, and is now on his way back home by car, where Aranea, his secret girlfriend, is waiting for him.

Nailed it.

Not quite. ;) He forgot to mention that Aranea is actually...

I'm watching the spanish preview video, and holy damn, the lighting in this game is top notch. Duscae in particular looks BEAUTIFUL. I highly prefer the new, more vibrant look. It's a huge upgrade from the Episode Duscae demo.

Let's try to keep this on topic as possible.

Do we have any Spanish speakers who can give us a breakdown of their impressions in that preview video?

Native Spanish speaker here. Impressions were extremely positive in the video. The only concern from the reviewer was that the plot takes quite a while to pick up, but he says the character interaction, banter and personalities make up for it.

He also says performance is extremely stable.

I'm a work, so I will be able to provide a more detailed description of the video once I'm home. Perhaps another Spanish speaker can go ahead first and help out. :)

I bet the shocking announcement tomorrow is FFXV has finally gone gold.....for real!

Ha ha, my 3 year old daughter has started using "for real" all the time in conversation. Amusingly, she uses it when obviously lying. At first I thought she was trying to trick me. now I think she thinks it's just what you say when you're not telling the truth.

"I did brush my teeth dad, for real."

"I didn't punch my brother dad, for real."

"I'm magic so I can jump in and out of books if I want dad, for real."

So that's how I'm going to interpret this comment. It would be super weird if they go for an early release after bumping it so recently. Is there any precedent for that w/ a AAA game?

Edit: also, re stability, have there been any post-upgrade complaints on that front?

I'm also disappointed you can't swim. The world is massive and encourages exploration. The bigger the world is the more annoying this omission is, really. It just kills the sense of place.

Only notes I could find:

So there seems to be a lot of praise in this for he visuals, as there was in the other spanish media outlet video - Vandals. Basically that they expected the PS4 to tank when there was a lot of action on screen and the fps stayed solid.

Awww, that's adorable :3

See the quotes above. Performance in battles was suprisingly smooth according to the Spanish previewers.

Wait, wasn't this thread closed? Weird.
;)

Let's stay on topic only now, though. I'm still waiting for the big German outlets' previews that were supposed to come this week, but strangely haven't been published yet. There's one site I'm especially anxious for (4players.de), as they're known for being the most critical site here probably (and I like them for it). There first FFXV preview last month was surprisingly positive, which I didn't expect.

Is it true that when it rains in the duscae region huge toads come out?
Does weather also determines what enemies will show up?

The whole time I thought it had to do with day and nigt cycles only.

I'm a bit worried about the lack of detail that most of these sites have given regarding the story. I understand they don't want spoilers but I do wonder if the story moves at a decent pace or if it is mostly mindless questing with an occasional story related quest.

You can swim just fine on a chocobo. This wouldn't be the first FF game that made you use some kind of vehicle to cross water.

Ahh gotcha

I have the feeling that many of the most recent previews are going to keep staying positive until we get to release. Then the real challenge begins.

I guess rather than just the swimming, it's the invisible walls. And not being able to swim is the first actual case of invisible walls I've seen in this game.

And yeah, I know you can swim with a Chocobo.

I feel like how the story will ultimately be received will depend much on the second half of the game, which is supposedly more linear.

German sites are really taking their time for this round of previews, the only site that has one so far is Gameswelt:

http://www.gameswelt.de/final-fantasy-xv/preview/der-rpg-kracher-des-jahres,267015

I only had a short look over it, but it's very positiv with saying stuff like "one of the most impressive gameworlds I've ever seen." They also say the German VO is good and the main characters are well written.
Criticism goes to the camera and some animation problems.

They also have a very short video up, you can hear a tiny bit of the German VO here:

You know...yeah, that's right, you could even swim in Kingdom hearts one.
It was quite fun swimming in destiny island to be honest, I always enjoy swimming even if there's nothing you can do or find.

There were huge toads while it was raining in Duscae in one of the Spanish video, but I have no clue if it's depending on the weather. But I could imagine them doing stuff like this for some monsters.

Awesome! Thanks guys. I myself am interested to hear more from them but I know they probably can't say anymore, and I am awaiting anxiously for the other previews from European sites.

Now you've done it :p

I'm not sure what the reason could be for Noctis not being able to swim. Maybe he doesn't know how and it's a story moment in the game where he learns to swim?

To make chocobos as a game mechanic more important and more frequent? Yes, you can ride on them but you can also use the Regalia for that and with the stamina recharching trick you can also sprint indefinitely with Noctis. Crossing lakes and rivers you can only do with chocobos though. Makes them a lot more important for the game. :)

What I've heard of the German dub so far is quite good. I hope they didn't change the mood of a scene like they did in the English localization...

We've been speculating that the German subs are translated directly from the Japanese script based on some examples from the previews, so it might not have the same "issues" as the English one w.r.t. to personality changes. Japanese audio + German subs could be the perfect way to go for us.

Guys, new thread.

I didn't know we had so many people who are playing the game in German! Glad people like the German VOs!

I'm one of very few Swiss people on GAF :)

Guys, new thread.

Yeah I might go JAP Audio + German Subs...but if the German dub is good I might just play it in German all the way...I'll see

Please keep this on topic! This isn't a megathread. This is for previews.

To be honest, German VO in games is generally basura, but German dubs for international movies and shows are actually some of the best in the world. Thing is, FFXV's English VO doesn't exactly set the bar high (except for Noctis mostly, everyone sounds horribly forced), that's why the German one might sound passable in comparison. To be fair, some of the German VO I heard in Witcher 3, when I tried it out for a few minutes, was actually not that bad, so maybe the studios here are improving.

Personally, I like Noctis, Luna, Prompto, Ardyn, and Iris's VOs in English.

Aranea is equally great in English and Japanese.

Yup, the invisible walls are the problem I have with it. I would rather crappy slow swimming that encourages you to use your chocobro over invisible walls screwing up my gameworld.

Guys, guys, although the preview version is near final, there are still working and patching things, right?

It was pretty much a 100% positive impressions, he also said that the last time he played the game he was worried because the game looked rather mediocre. Now, acording to him, the graphics are awesome, the framerate is completely stable (though I think I've seen some minor framedrops in the video) and combat has improven greatly. He repeated a lot of times how fun the combat is now, and that he didn't feel bored once while he played, because how fun the combat is.

Also, Vandal is one of the most trustable gaming sites here in Spain for me, so if they say the game has improven greatly (which can be easily seen anyway) I trust them.

You know what intrigues me quite a lot? Pseudo-Spoilers
How are they going to handle the 10 years time skip? If we can truly go back to previously explored areas, does that mean we get to see places and cities after the skip? Older Cindy and other characters?

That's great to know. I would still expect the fps to tank when the screen goes super chaotic just to avoid any disappointment. But if it truly manages to keep a solid fps even in those situations then Tabata and Co definitely deserve to be praised for this achievement.
