Battlefield 1 - Worse IQ and Performance on PS4 Pro after newest Patch

Definite trend here regarding performance of PS4 Pro games. The average consumer won't catch wind of this and the majority of them will never honestly find out, but to our audience, this doesn't look bueno at all.

The only trend worth mentioning is that games run and look better on the Pro. This game ran like a dream before the patch on TDM, Rush and Domination. Can't say the same after patch 1.4. That said, I'm sure Dice is aware and they'll fix it asap.

Image quality is blurrier/softer on pro after the patch.
Also framerate and stuttering issues all over the place that werent there before.
Pre-patch this played almost perfectly on pro.
Hope dice fixes this soon.

I also noted the blurrier IQ, decrease in smooth frame delivery in places like Argonne, and, I think I'm seeing crushed blacks all over the place that were not there before. Looks like they shat the PS4 Pro bed on this patch.

As someone who primarily games on PC, these PS4Pro performance issues are amusing as hell. You guys wanted the PC experience, you got it. Things can't be optimized for every configuration, and that means there'll be weird performance issues in some areas and games. A few lost frames here and there is the price paid for a range of specifications.

What's the trend exactly?

The trend is that there are areas that perform differently on the different hardware and occasionally those result in less consistent or worse performance. It won't affect all games or even a majority, but it's definitely present.

What? It was playing and looking great before this last patch on the Pro. I don't get your pc comparison. There are two PS4s.. there are literally thousands of PC configurations.

I'd agree performance seems poorer since 1.04. Limiting myself to DOM/TDM until this is fixed. Concerning that we could go backwards - I'm not one for conspiracy theories, tho it is a real head scratcher.

Hmmmm I think some people are seeing stuff that isn't there, played a few games iq didn't look any different, frame rate wise up in the air.

There is definitely a performance drop post patch.

PS4 pro
1080p tv
Ran smooth pre patch
Runs like shit post patch

Multiple people in my party noticed it after we'd all updated the game. I no joke skip Argonne Forrest now as the frame rate makes me feel sick (and sad it's not running like it was)

Something is wrong here and we need someone like digital foundary to prove it.

Buttery smooth for me on 64p operations all night on my pro.
The mixed reports are interesting. Wonder if it's a patch bug.

Maybe I'll redownload the whole game again and see if that fixes it. The patch did stop and start multiple times while downloading it and I do recall it starting at 2.7 something gig then resuming at 1.9 gig.

Either way there's something not right and the frame drops were immediately noticeable (over 100 hours played and quite a few on the pro pre patch)

Yeah, Argonne Forest got fucked up the most. Constant stuttering. It really doesn't feel good. Especially if you know how great it was on the PRO, pre-patch. Amiens is not that bad, but also got something going on with the framerate. Feels like frame pacing issues on this map.
Was playing all day long and there is definitely something wrong now.
Most other maps seem to be ok.

So worse IQ and performance. Patches suppose to improve things last i heard. I'm also hearing things are worse on PC too.....

I cannot even play the game right now as after the patch and newest driver I either have flickering menus in DX11 or CTDs in DX12 mode which never happened before. It's a mess.

The mixed reports are interesting.

People who aren't as sensitive to framerates have been dismissing others who have problems with it since BF4 launched, claiming things like "performance ist great for me".
As subjective as this issue is, there are still actual numbers from fps measurements showing us the facts, which makes such comments pretty much worthless. I wouldn't call that "mixed reports", just reports from people who notice (and/or unterstand) these things and from those who don't.

You're probably right however I find it hard to believe that someone who played it on a pro pre patch wouldn't notice the difference post patch. It's quite jarring.

So? What us as community can do? I was so happy with the performance of this game after moving from OG. Now this?! I really hope it is something they can fix easily. Yes Argonne is really bad atm.

I'm not sure about the IQ being worse as I haven't really made any comparisons but the frame rate definitely doesn't feel as smooth to me. I noticed it almost immediately after downloading the patch and it's a damn shame. The game felt amazing going from the OG PS4 to the Pro, but it feels a little less so now.

As far as I know the game is still running and looking better than on the OG ps4. It's just running worse than before the patch (so the advantage is still there but not as big as before).

It still sucks though. Was super tempted to get one, now I lost all interest.

I thought that was only until the Pro launched?
Yeah, not a word about the Pro despite the Fall Update and the console being well and truly launched. MS deal at work here, tho doesn't stop us from flagging this particular issue with the devs.

1080p PS4 PRO user here:

- almost perfect before yesterday's patch
- after patch: framerate suffers in domination and TDM and these modes ran flawlessly!!
- menus became laggy again, almost as OG PS4
- not entirely sure about IQ, could be placebo after all the reports online, but doesn't quite feel like pre-patch

We definitely need a Digital Foundry analysis, they don't talk about this patch at all in their latest video....

From launch until yesterday it was playing perfectly on Pro: http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1315077

The patch released today messed things up. This thread is based on the Pro version, but other platforms are effected also.

Just booted up the game for the first time after downloading the patch and I can confirm the game looks worse in multiplayer. I've put over 20 hours into this game on the pro and there's something off. Looks like I'm playing on my OG ps4 again.

Not sure if serious...

If (and that still needs verifying) the Pro is running slightly worse framerate now after the patch, it's still way ahead of the standard PS4 in both framerate and resolution.

Maybe Sony forced them to downgrade because of this article claiming Pro players had advantage over OG PS4 on BF1 (there's supposed to be multiplayer parity)

Same as above. The parity mandate is about the target framerate.

Parity means you can't have a 30fps game on ps4 and have it 60 on pro.

If that article was published weeks ago, maybe. Patches and certification take considerable time - this couldn't be in response to that silly piece of DF clickbait.

From that linked Eurogamer article:

UPDATE 16/11/16 8:41am: We've seen reports and discussion of reduced performance on PlayStation 4 Pro since the introduction of patch 1.04 yesterday, leading to speculation that the Pro features are disabled in the new update. Temporal anti-aliasing has been been tweaked, but we can rule out the disabling of Pro enhancements as our data is taken from the game running the 1.04 update.

End of thread?
