Buying a 4K TV for PS4K thread!

I thought the B6 is 38-51ms (oddly variable) with the recent update? At least in 4K/HDR

1080p @ 60Hz 44.4ms
1080p @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 61.0ms
1080p @ 60Hz @ HDR 58.0ms - 71.0ms
1080p @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 @ HDR 54.9ms - 70.7ms
4k @ 60Hz 43.2ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 59.8ms
4k @ 60Hz @ HDR 38.2ms - 54.5ms
4k @ 60Hz @ 4:4:4 @ HDR 38.8ms - 54.7ms

Need to be concerned with general gaming, not just HDR, imo (For every display)

this won't be a significant difference

i've seen movies on vudu on an oled in DV and hdr10, DV was much better because it was able to change the settings per scene. The hdr10 version looked good, but in dark scenes not as good as it did on DV. I am assuming this is because of that static data so it wsa one setting for the entire movie.

The KS8000 is out of my budget but I can easily buy the KU7000. Read some reviews and the main complaint seems to be about the HDR functionality. I'm not very knowledgeable about what that is, so am quite confused right now. Anyone here own this TV? Would love some informed opinions.

I would search for "KU7000" and read individual posts. I personally can't help though.

Hey thanks for the recommendation!

43 inches is a biiiit smaller than what I am hoping for, though I realize I may be being unrealistic with a $600 budget.

How about this one?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-5...D=1&siteID=TnL5HPStwNw-dnwdyYgEPMHYmoVWyVrYnQ

It isn't HDR though....am I shooting myself in the foot by not just spending a bit more to also get HDR? How much does it add?

Adding on to my question here, it seems this model is identical, except it has HDR for $300 more.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-5...h-dynamic-range-black/4989300.p?skuId=4989300

So, is HDR worth $300 more?

$700 would be a bit above budget but I could slum it a bit if everyone thinks it is really worth it.

What you mean discover priced matched it? I have a discover card too, how can I get in on this (is this something I can get in on)?

If you have your original receipt and then proof of a lower price (I took mobile screenshots of the Samsung price since it hid the EPP logo) they will cover the difference up to $500 per transaction and a total of $2500 a year. I bought it at Best Buy for $1399 seeing that it'd be for $1199 on Black Friday. So I was going to just use Discover to Price Match that, but Best Buy dropped the price early so I was able to do an in-store price match. I then took the gamble that Discover would price match from $1199 down to $850 and it worked out (says in their terms they won't price match EPP), so YMMV. You can only put in a claim for an item once, so I was out of luck if they denied my claim.

Great news, man! Glad it worked out for you.

Thanks! I consider it good karma, hopefully your second TV comes to you in good shape!

Here's a 50" of the Samsung for ~$572 that does HDR but not 100% true HDR (It looks really good in person)

I would go with the biggest one myself, even if it is a Samsung. You want to maximise the benefits of the increased resolution. If money wasn't an issue I would recommend a Sony, as they are the best at upscaling 1080p content, which is very important as it is the resolution you will be playing most games at on the Neo.

Also, make absolutely sure the TV is HDR-compatible. This is one of the main benefits of 4K output right now and a surprising amount of TVs don't support it.

This is primarily what I was wondering - there is a $750 55LED 4k Toshiba + ps4 pro for $750 but I'm not sure if its worth the cost... maybe better to save and get HDR

I would not buy a 4k TV without HDR at all. HDR is as important as 4K itself. Get some form of HDR or you may as well wait for next year for prices to come down and HDR to be more widespread. Even the worst 4K and HDR tv will possibly look better than the best 4K tv in my opinion.

I did and I live in Edmonton Alberta.

All in it cost me right around $2050 Canadian to bring it up here.

Used reship.com as my forwarding address.

Hope this helps.

Ditto. In Toronto and paid about $2,000 all-in. Had crossborderpickups bring the tv across the border for me and I picked it up in Mississauga. Their service was $40 based on size and weight of the tv.

Pretty incredible considering Best Buy sells this for $3,300-$3,500+tax ON SALE

you can get a 55 inch of that model from amazon warehouse. My friend picked one up a few weeks ago with a 2 year warranty for $400.
That's a good price if they still have them. Might even be able to go a size bigger depending on their budget

It takes HDR signal and displays HDR but not 100% coverage of HDR10 standard gamut. Still way better than non-HDR

Here's an off-screen pic of my 6290, you can see how rich the color looks

Oh wow. Ok then thanks for the heads up, I'll keep that in mind. Worst comes to worst I'll ride out my 1080p for another year if paying for HDR is just a bit too much for me right now.

KS8000 just shipped from Samsung. AGS is the shipper and I've heard bad things. Any suggestions? Do they usually provide a delivery window?

Bought the 55" KS8000 due to all the chatter about how solid it is...Thanks for all the good conversation/suggestions here guys. I am far too hyped!

That is stunning. Ya, if I can't end up springing for true HDR, this looks like the next best thing.

A lot of 'HDR' sets that aren't top-tier models do stuff like this, some better than others. Definitely check sites like rtings and YouTube reviews before you pull the trigger on one.

If you can't pay what full HDR 10 bit costs, I would say something like this is definitely better than an altogether non-HDR set though, because you will see tangible improvement to the color in HDR media.

I hear you, and I agree 100%. So far, this has not been worth the savings. You can't put a dollar amount on frustration...but I'm giving the Samsung route one more try. I just placed the order again, and am hoping for the best.

I actually ended up going with costco as the price after tax and shipping was very similar, and dealing with samsung's customer service has been the fucking WORST.

Completely understandable...but for me, it would be $1065 from Costo after tax (and ships in 7-10 business days) and it was $794 from Samsung, so the savings is still pretty big. I also spoke to someone at Samsung today who was MUCH nicer and more helpful than the person I spoke to yesterday.

Still, if things don't work out this time around, I'll certainly bite the bullet and pick it up from a store myself.

You should call them to put your phone number on file because Samsung's system doesn't provide it to them the way it should.

Then when it reaches the local warehouse close to you they'll call you to deliver when it's convenient for you.

Is this a really good deal? It is an IPS display with pretty poor blacks for being a flagship, HDR peak brightness is not full HDR10 etc. The KS8000 is a better tv in almost every way. If you had been following this thread you could have bought the 65" KS8000 for $1079 or $1279 etc.

I thought it was an OLED model, but yes it's still a good deal. I know the KS8000 is better and I never really miss any sales (I knew about this deal before it even showed up on GAF). I'm just not at a point where I want to replace my Panny Plasma.

i live in Ca, ordered yesterday morning, and was delivered today. Box was perfect, and tv is in excellent condition. Samsungs site still says" preparing for shipment".
YMMV

Thanks I'll do that tomorrow.

Next question: what's the best game/show/movie to showcase HDR? I have a pro and an Xbox one S.

My big issue was the 60hz, so I traded for the 8000. Going to 120hz makes a huge difference for motion handling IMO.

For Fucksake..... is HDR really, REALLY that essential in a 4K gaming TV? You can get some damn fine bargains on UHD TV's right now that don't have HDR, and I'm considering purchasing a 4K TV very soon. It's just that... something like the KS8000 is literally almost double the price of a comparable 4K TV without HDR.

I just really don't want to invest so much money in something that may or may not be used extensively in the future. I mean, especially if I have to pay double for it.

You guys really think HDR is worth the price?

Yes. No point buying a set now without some form of HDR. It is this important and a game changer. There is a reason the KS8000 is double the price of your comparable 4K tv without HDR.

4k tvs have been selling well since before all the hoopla about HDR. If you can find you a decent sized 4k set for an amazing price. I would say go for it man. There will always be something better out there. The thing is to get what you can afford and be happy with it.

One would hope that it's not just a gaming tv. In any case HDR is bound to become fairly prevalent for both gaming and tv so yes I think it is worth it.

I also have a non-HDR 4k Vizio P Series that does just fine. These HDR tv's just happen to be better.

I mean, it's not going away. I wouldn't be surprised if HDR is in next year's budget sets, they're pushing this as hard as 4K itself.

And I think it makes a bigger difference than 4K alone, so yeah HDR is worth it. I'd either wait for next year or spend the extra.

i'll probably try out first light a little later, but the main reason why i want HDR is for movies. I watch a lot of movies, but dont game that much anymore.

Would KS8000 be a good upgrade from a Panasonic Plasma?

Funny question. That's what I just did.
First though, I went from a 50" to a 65". So let's just say that alone was a nice improvement.

I feel like it's a little game of chance-ish.
I lucked out and had no bad experiences with shipping or the screen.
Nothing seems wrong with the set.

Smart TV is bananas (the best I had before was chromecast).

4K is bananas.

Brightness is....... different? Sometimes I'm stoked. Other times I feel like I need to put on sunglasses.

HDR.... I don't know that I'm that wow'ed by the feature. But some people love it.

Honestly... I don't think I'm going to sell the plasma. Might put it in a spare room.
But I'm not disappointed at all by my purchase.
The only thing I would hold out for is an OLED, but it will be a long wait for a $1K 65" OLED (the price I paid for my ks8000).

So yeah. I'm very happy.

Weird that HDR doesn't seem like a big impact to you. Most people said it's bigger than the jump to 4K. Would you disagree?

I really want to upgrade my set, but I doubt I'll be able to snag a $1000 65" set. I'd do that in a heartbeat. Maybe Black Friday will have some good deals..

Make sure you call AGS and provide them your phone number. If you can i would go and pick it up from the warehouse. When I picked my set up there was so many Samsung tv's in the warehouse and most were strapped to pallets.

I mean... if I had a button I could press to switch back and forth, I'd be more excited about it. But honestly.... once you have nothing to compare it to.... it's just a great looking screen.

honestly, that really depends on how picky you with details. do you notice a difference with these pictures? Does it bother you? If not, then HDR may not be a big deal to you. These are not my pictures, I got them from another site, just using them for examples. the ones on the left are SDR.
