Well it's only a week later for Wii U, Twilight Princess was like a month later on gamecube right?

Think it was only a week difference in Europe.

Oh hey, which version does Link lead with his left hand in this time?

So the WiiU came and went without its own Zelda title... That's just mind blowing!
Getting both copies before the WiiU one becomes ridiculously rare.

Well that's fine especially since it's after E3. It's also good that Monolith is working on something and more likely that a teaser might be shown at the January event if not later in the year.

I feel really really bad for anyone who bought a Wii U hoping to play Zelda.

That's some fucking bullshit right there.

I think it was really close but limited shipment initially. I bought both version but I received my GCN one like a month later.

Yeah, the gamecube version was printed in extremely low quantities at launch. I remember getting the last copy and I was like the fifth person in line.

No, that'll be the cancellation of the Wii U version of Bloodstained :(

They need to nip that in the bud ASAP.

Hahahaha, the game won't even be ready in time for Switch's launch?
Oh Nintendo, what are you doing.

(Presumably everyone else already knew this, but I wasn't keeping up to date regarding Zelda BotW.)

Guess you also missed that there will be a 3d Mario platformer game at launch instead, correct?

no way the WiiU version has a retail release mid-2017 with zero WiiU products in stores,

I am calling digital only.

If at launch there will be other interesting titles (additionally to Mario), I'm ok with this. June is a good pace, if at March there will actually be Mario and in-between other minor games.

Or the version of Yooka Laylee that makes banjo tooies frame rate look smooth

The Wii U version of YL is the only version being internally developed by Playtonic, so they will probably do everything in their power to make sure it runs well and leaves a good impression as their first game.

If they can get copies of stuff like Devil's Third and #FE printed, I think they will print some copies of Zelda, especially after promising the game to Wii U owners.

To be fair, Playtonic is actually very focused on the Wii U version of that game. In fact, it's the only home console version they're personally working on, the others are being done externally. They said they want to give the Wii U version "the right attention". Obviously they want to appeal to Nintendo fans that grew up playing Rare's N64 games back in the day, like Banjo.

edit: basically what maxcriden said above

They're going to ride such a great hype train into E3 and have BotW release that week will be insane! Then they can announce new games at E3 to keep the hype going.

If they're doing this then I wonder if they do plan on offering some kind of Wii U ambassador program, since that would soften this blow for Wii U owners (even though this is just a week to be honest).

With NNIDs tied to Wii U consoles it really shouldn't be too hard to find which Switch owners are also Wii U owners. They could offer us a few VC games or digital discounts, since this is fairly similar to that 3DS ambassador situation.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Wii u better release a week later, the fuck man
I'm betting Wii u gets pushed to the holidays just to make sure switch sales go up
They will throw in every Zelda for Wii u VC X skyward sword and twilight princess HD

Was expecting September to honest but June is alright

Notice how suddenly so many people seem to care about Wii U lately? They're really concerned about the Wii U owners well being. How sweet.

They've actually been using thay exact word since the Switch version was officially announced.

But yes, Nintendo does tend to change its mind, or have people flat out lie.

Ah, right. It's even on Nintendo.com. Well, approximately simultaneously then.

It wasn't so bad...Wind Waker HD wound up being my favourite Zelda ever, after I got bored of the original version halfway through.

(I'm still waiting on that VC version of Majora's Mask though, I want to play it on the gamepad).

I'd rather they dont show teasers of games coming 2+ years later this time. Dont want another SMT #FE, Zelda situation.

They didnt release that in States? It's out in Europe since June.

I still think the Wii U version will get quietly canned. As I've said before, there's no way they'd release one of the biggest ever games for the system over half a year after they've stopped making the system you're supposed to play it on.

Oh wow, had no idea, but that's really great news. Hopefully this version turns out well then.

You didn't really think this through, though. Not all 13 million Wii U owners will buy a Switch in the first year.

Is there any chance that Skyward Sword could ever come to the Switch? Given the game's control scheme, is it even possible?

It's the only 3D Zelda I haven't played.

I thought they might do this a long time ago but there's no way they can it now. They wouldn't dedicate an entire e3 to a version of a game they just end up canning

that's because at the time of their release, the WiiU was still being supported by Nintendo, production is ending and I don't think retailers will phase out and wait till after Zelda to get rid of the WiiU line of products.

I still see Wii games on the stores.

because Wii games are playable on WiiU, not to mention the Wii was a massive success,

Switch won't play any of those games so with no hardware in stores to accompany the sotfware, I don't think there's room for a lone WiiU game in store shleves.

As I said, I can't imagine retailers wanting any WiiU stuff in their stores mid2017.

Happy we're at least getting the Switch version first.

And really, when we get 3D Mario at launch, a 3 month wait for Zelda is perfectly fine. I wouldn't even want those two games at the same time.

This makes sense from a sales side-kinda- D1 buyers were going to buy Switch D1 regardless of if it launched with a potato as the only game. Most active Nintendo fans(imo) are rabid adopters. This included people who buy for Mario ) I don;t think the switch has or does anything to convert non-Nintendo fans over....yet. Pretend you aren't a rabid Nintendo fan(if you are) and you know this is likely true. Sales wave #1.

I love Zelda crowd - I know more than a few people for whom Zelda is a system mover- question is do they wait a second and buy a WiiU for 99$ or buy a secondhand switch to play Zelda. It is likely going to depend on what is on the horizon, but if it is shaky , 160$ WiiU/BotW and a sell back after beating BotW sounds like a good option. Wave #2

All of the ports can be played on WiiU and if you didn;t buy a WiiU for them odds are they aren't a draw on Switch. They are potential anchors to the platform. It might have been smarter to lock users in day one with Zelda looking for other games to play next. A later release allows users to have already formed opinions based on release schedule. Could go either way for Nintendo.

There is no way they would put this much time and effort into the Wii U Version as they obviously have judging from the E3 demo if they werent going to release it. Did a single bug get discovered during all of the streams?

I'm still more intrigued by the Wii U version since I get the benefit of having the map on the gamepad instead of the TV. Unless the Switch version does this, or has some significant performance bump, I don't even want it on the new system.

I'll wait. The only game I want on Switch right now if the port rumors are true is Mario, to be honest. I'm fine with that as my only purchase.

I had suspected that they could do this.

It basically lets them remind their biggest possible audience of the game's release. Ie, by going 'And you can play it next week!' or some such. A little disappointing it probably won't be a launch title, but this would also help prop up the post-launch period.

Well I already have the following week, 19-23, off of work anyway so might just take the 16th off too and rock out with Zelda for wayyyy too long.

system still has a 10 million userbase, more than half probably dedicated fans. really wouldn't make sense since its essentially a wii u game first and foremost. worst case scenario wii u gets a digital only release

that said they'd probably rather have scrapped the wii u version altogether years ago

Look at Nintendo passing on E3 again and yet they'll be the topic #1 with Zelda.

What if it truly runs smoother on Switch though?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
They must have solid Holiday games if they drop Zelda in June - very interesting. Still think it will be a Holiday title...but if they already have Retros game, Smash Bros. Pokemon Stars etc. lined for the Holiday it might be too crowded - who knows.

Short term gains...

Blacklisting journalists (barring any wrongdoing) is something that should never be accepted. It's a terrible practice that severely hurts consumers.

I will buy both the Switch and Zelda: BotW plus the Wii U version, just like with Twilight Princess. I like to see the differences if there are any.
